Highly Realistic Golf Simulation Game - The Golf Club - Tees off Today on Steam Early Access

HB Studios Simulation, Complete with Course Creator and Social Features, Now Available on Steam Early Access for PC

Canadian video game developer, HB Studios, today announced its next generation golf simulation, The Golf Club, is now available on Steam Early Access for PC. The Golf Club features pre-designed courses as well as a Course Creator that allows players to build brand new courses and share them online within seconds. The Golf Club Early Access is available for $29.99, discounted from $34.99 for 7 days. Scheduled to launch on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One soon, The Golf Club will redefine the genre across both console and PC platforms. For more information, including a host of instructional videos, please visit the official website here.

“With a heritage deeply rooted in building some of the most fun, intuitive and critically successful sport franchises on the EA Sports label, HB Studios are now excited to roll out the first phase of The Golf Club,” said Jeremy Wellard, President of HB Studios. “With integrated social features, a massive online multiplayer mode and a Course Creator that will provide players with endless challenges, avid golfers and gamers can now access The Golf Club on Steam Early Access.”

The Golf Club is designed for 1 - 4 players locally, (from single player to 4-player sofa play), or in an asynchronous online multiplayer mode that allows players to compete against “live balls” and “ghost balls” from other players. Early Access of The Golf Club comes complete with three modes: stroke play, match play and 4-ball, and no loading times between holes.

The Course Creator allows players to build an unlimited number of golf courses which can then be shared and played with friends online. New courses can be generated in a matter of seconds by selecting a theme (Rural, Alpine or Autumn), terrain features, number of holes and difficulty. Players can then enjoy a full suite of editing tools from changing the time of day to placing hazards and objects to create the ultimate golf challenge. Players can also discover new courses built by friends and the community by filtering through rank and difficulty, as well as interact with new The Golf Club members through the Message Center.

Additional social features enable players to challenge friends and attempt to beat high scores and best their own highest recorded rounds. Add to this a myriad of statistic tracking tools, notifications, challenges and much more, and you have a golf club truly worth joining. The Golf Club was developed with the Unity games development platform.

Hm...I was gonna try to hold out for the ps4 version, but dang it, now I want the steam one too. Is it wrong to be thinking about buying the game on both platforms

Arghh- My ATI Radeon HD4800 doesn't support DirectX 11. Looks like I'm SOL.

Admins... Is there any chance that we can get a separate subforum for the game apart from the golf forum to set up tournaments and not clog up the rest of the golfing stuff with a bunch of threads hosting tournaments etc.

EDIT::

Guys, also, I am gonna put some time into tonight into course editing and playing and hosting a tourney for Early Access!

I will post a thread later tonight with the details and just make a fun friendly opening tournament! More details to come!

EDIT 2::

Just took a quick peek at the menu, showed COMING SOON for tournaments still, I am guessing we cannot do them yet. Hopefully soon. Maybe I am wrong and someone can verify!

Should this work ok with the game does anyone know?

It runs Diablo 3 fine on (mostly) high settings...it's 2 years old is why I ask

Picked up tonight and have a few questions.

1) Is there anyway to speed things up after you've swung like you can in TW?

2) Related to the above, if not, is there a way to force the game to keep running when changing the window focus? For example, if I swing and hit the ball, then switch off the window the game is running in so I can read OS real quick, the game stops and my ball just freezes in mid-air and only when I switch back to the game window does my shot continue. Anyway to change things so that it doesn't freeze and continues to run?

3) Anyway to stop the little zooming in camera shot that happens when you're getting ready to swing again?

Hoping we can speed things up a bit if all we want to do is finish a few holes.

Since my PS4 controller does not work in game, I used the mouse.

Very very clunky. When you pull back, it is delayed by about a second before the golfer swings back, very hard to time shots and get power correct.

Tried to use mouse and keyboard for course creator, again, VERY clunky. Got tired of fooling with it after a few minutes.

Luckily, I have my 360 controller at the house when I get back tomorrow. So will give it another go, from what I played, it was fun, they need to get the tour/tourney ASAP, going to be kind of boring just playing stroke play for nothing.

I never researched, so I want to purchase this game - but...are the ball trails in the game or not?

Looking forward to reading through impressions.

I've had some time to play around and it's really fun to play with so far. I'm using my PS4 controller through the USB cord. Creating courses is pretty fun, and I've got a hole down that reminds me greatly of one of my most favorite par threes. If anybody is looking to re-create a course they are going to be disappointed, but the tools can create some courses that are really neat.

The gameplay is difficult, but I haven't played a golf game in a long time. The swing mechanic is challenging without being too cumbersome, and the putting is definitely a good challenge on sloped greens. I'm really excited about a community forming around this game here.

I just want course downloads pretty soon. Hopefully those who got the game can plug in real courses as well as fantasy ones. I played Links 2003 until the bitter end. I'm not doing too well on my first match. +2 after 7 holes. I have direct X 11 and things are smooth as butter on my PC; Alienware Aurora R3, dual core 2.8ghz processors, 6GB RAM, NVidia GeForce GTX 580 w/4GB

My PS4 controller will not work... that is weird. I did hook my controller up through bluetooth instead of cable, but surely they does not matter.

It could be the issue, although the only game I would use it for is this one. Try using the cable...

No, and it doesn't sound like it's an option they're willing to entertain based on what I've read over the last few months.

I can't help you with this unfortunately. I just learned yesterday how to recover full screen after the game gets reduced to "windowed" mode following a wireless controller resync. You have to hit Atl-Enter after clicking inside the window. I was having to closed the game via task manager previously, and restarting the game.

No, not at present. I do know there are going to be some camera presentation options coming. I've been harping about this since the game was announced, along with a number of others. HBS' camera guy "Adam" has given us assurances that we're going to get some more golfer's view perspective presentation options, which might help what you're asking about.

Agreed... I think the game needs some help in this department. There are times when the ball catches a small slope and it takes forever to roll out. I'd love to be able to fast-forward that, particularly when I'm trying to get a round done in under 35 minutes.

There's still no options to turn off the ball tracers, nor the ball comet trails. The only thing they have done since the last beta build, is turn off the comet trails on putts, which was absolutely ridiculous looking. I'm pretty sure we're going to get an option to turn tracers and/or trails off before the full release, based on what a couple of the devs have said.

Somebody wanted some more impressions... here's a few specific ones I posted elsewhere:

The swing mechanics are solid, but too easy to execute a perfect shot, at least with my Microsoft Silver Edition wireless 360 controller. I find it hard to deviate from the Y axis enough to get me in trouble on anything more than a putt. It is possible to pull and push putts, thankfully.

They've got it too easy to hit 100% shots right now. Heck, even when I'm trying to hit like a 90% shot, it still gives me 100%. The shot setup screen is giving too much information as you're lofting and delofting the club. You can dial the carry distance down to the yard while adjusting it. The only thing you have to factor in is wind and elevation change. The red "risk cone" shrinks as you make loft/stance adjustments in any direction from default, but I paint the Y axis so consistently, it rarely matters, but when I don't.... woah be unto me! (it's rare though).

They've really neutered the pitching game, IMO. It's too easy to dial in a laser precision pitch shot using the shot setup tool. Pitches stop and in come cases back up on a dime, even from the rough. I rarely fail to get up and down from inside of 50 yards, even from bunkers, using the pitch shot, even from a 70% buried lie! Flop shots are really not needed, punch shots are really the hardest shot to execute in the game :?

TGC is still a work in progress and I'm sure it will continue to be refined. Hey, we've got fringes on the greens now, mostly believable approach shot physics, and semi-playable live play. Can't wait to see this on the PS4 and XB1 though, I don't think I'll ever touch the PC version after that, given my PC isn't anywhere nearly well equipped enough to handle it.

Not sure how you believe the consoles versions will be superior at all.. (Assuming you are meaning that with yor last statement) If you have a good enough pc (and I do), I have it high as it can go and never had an issue besides my Bluetooth controller not working properly.

# 19 RD_Rabin @ 04/18/14 11:09 AM
They nearly had my money, until I checked the PC requirements and realised that I only have half the available video ram needed.

Ah well. I'll have to wait for the PS4 version after all.

Does the game include pre-made courses or is it all user-created/generated?
