Well, I still believe Puig should be higher than 68 for speed, perhaps something between 75 to 80.

They may have tweaked things that would have this make sense though. I'm not sure how fast Puig is in a vacuum, but he's right around Starlin Castro, Chris Young and DeJesus it looks like.

Considering speed has more influence in base stealing this year.....and Puig was thrown out nearly 50% of the time he tried to steal a base....I think they are generous. TBH...

Would speed not affect fielding and basepath speed though?

Of course...but I believe reaction is going to trump speed in fielding and ability in baserunning(with speed being top dog in steals)

Short tests....not nearly enough time and stability to the build we were working on in November to dig in.

That makes zero sense to me. Base running ability and speed are not necessarily the same thing. Stealing bases isn't necessarily the end all determination for speed. Juan Uribe stole 5 bases last year with a success rate of 100 percent, so want to make him faster than Puig?

It doesn't make sense, but that is how the game handles it from what Knight posted.

In the case of players with very small BS attempt numbers I doubt it affects much at all in the game. In the sim stats can you really get a player to consistently have around 5 attempts per year through rating adjustment?

I agree with you.
But I also flubbed a bit....it not the determining factor in the success rate...but the attempts.
Sorry about that.
I believe that BR Ability and speed......=success rate
...and speed is the determining factor in attempts.
I still liked aggression as the attempts factor...

Is speed affecting steal frequency or success rate? Were the baserunning ability and frequency ratings removed completely?

Ah so its attempts. Still a little weird to me since not all fast guys steal a ton of bases and vice versa. Adam Jones and Jason Kipnis come to mind, and there are most definitely others.

I'm having a LOT of trouble this year in conveying info.
Without my question sheets and notes from a SECOND visit to the studios(on a more stable build)...I've been a MESS in info this year.

Sorry about that!

I hope, through a lot of tweaking most likely, we could get players' speed to a more realistic (observational) level and have their ability lowered and still end up with the same success rate.

No....the ability and aggression are still there.
I believe Brian said that speed is the top factor in attempts(I cannot remember how much the aggression is the modifier any longer)......
Ability and speed will determine success....speed trumping ability.

I didn't like it for trying to create a player like the 1988 Kevin McReynolds...21 steals with 0 CS.
He wasn't the fastest guy.....but with the old modifiers....you could control his attempts and his success rate much better.
JMHO....but I know Brian will have the data to back up his changes.

I edited my post Knight. I brought up Adam Jones and Jason Kipnis, the former has plus speed and the latter closer to average, but Kipnis has had twice the number of SB attempts the last two years and far more success.

This was something that was fine the way it was

Shane Victorino is listed as a switch hitter but he no longer bats that way. He has changed to batting right-handed only. I heard that during the Red Sox game today and MLB.com confirms in roster:

Wait. So Speed influences attempts? Since when? This year?

That doesn't seem right. Shouldn't it be aggression?

Kool I'll pass this along.

Jayson Werth is listed as a left fielder, but usually starts in right field for the Nationals.

I've seen quite a few people think certain players are better based on WAR. Honestly, in my opinion, I think that WAR is an overrated stat. It's just something new that people decided to make up. Like I said, just my opinion

I've seen quite a few people think certain players are better based on W-L record. Honestly, in my opinion, I think that W-L record is an overrated stat, it's something that the old guard clings to because at the end of the day, all that matters is who wins and who loses. Like I said, just my opinion
