Consider it a pledge of quality development when posters are beginning to look at things like that.
Why is it wrong to complain about the dirt if the poster feels it can look better?
Didn't someone once complain about the grass? Look at it now. If the grass didn't matter to the gameplay , why would the developers spend time improving it? Likely to make a better looking overall game.
So why not dirt? You can call the complaint ridiculous or you can actually admire the fact that dirt is the biggest issue a poster has in a game that has very little else to complain over.
But attacking the person for it? His complaints are legitimate and isn't the mantra "we should continue to push developers" something gamers abide by?
So again, explain to me why not dirt? Why not the Jays blue? Why not facial detail? Why not franchise mode? Why not whatever someone will eventually complain about because that's all they can point to when everything else looks so good?

100% agree
A few weeks ago I got ripped by so many here because I was giving my advice on how I think the Pitches and Number font on the scorebug could be improved a little bit. I realize MLB The Show or any other game for that matter will never be perfect but if a user can point out little issues they have with the game and with the slight chance Sony agrees and ends up fixing it then well we all win in the end

Exactly, people aren't just picking out stuff to be negative for no reason. Most of the things that are mentioned do need to be improved in my opinion, be it dirt, uniform textures or whatever.
Everybody here knows how amazing the game and development team is.
Some of the attacks on people who post nitpicks is pretty embarrassing.

Having said all that, it's also important that anyone complaining about something actually know when to chill out.
No one enjoys visiting the forum to read the same complaint from the same poster over and over again.
The developers are here. They read it. There wouldn't be so many improvements to things people have complaints about over the years if they weren't reading the forums.
As long as ANY criticism is constructive i have no problem with it, what someone considers minor someone else considers major, so i have no issue with people raising what others might perceive as minor, i.e. dirt/grass/jersey colour.
Its when any gripes are just directed at the devs in a demanding "why isnt this done", "why is this wrong" sort of way that i and i think most people have an issue with it.

There's definitely a right way to complain. And there's definitely a very wrong way.
The wrong way gets people removed from the forums.
I just feel at times the right way gets a little too much flack and the response is usually "who cares? It's not detrimental to the gameplay!" That's not really fair.
Anyway I'm not trying to change the conversation of this thread. The screenshots are amazing and one thing I know about SCEA is they will look better with every iteration of the title.

I don't think I've ever attacked anyone. I rather not post than attack anyone. I just feel some of these complaints are over the top. They have their opinions, and I have mine.
To me I feel the dirt complaint is a little too much, nor do I feel the grass update is important to me. I will never notice these elements when playing the game.
The Show is a great game but I definitely do think it can use some improvements, especially the franchise mode. To me, that is a much more important aspect than new dirt.
I guess I tend to side with the posters complaining about the complainers. I don't see anything wrong with that when I'm not attacking anyone.
Speaking of dirt could someone show examples of how the dirt in MLB 14 The Show could be improved?
I am just asking because to my eyes the dirt looks pretty good.
It lacks dimension and texture, it gives the appearance that it is a smooth surface. It may be done on purpose for processing for all I know. It stands out even more now because the grass has texture now. I know they show particle effects when running and sliding but the particles are too big to be believable. It does not bother me at all but I know it is not 100% correct either. If this was a game where all we did was stare at the dirt I could see it as an issue but when the game is moving that is the last thing that will be on people's minds.
Been quite a while since I have chimed in, but lurking everyday.
Not that it matters much, but my quick two cents: I doubt the guys who make the show only want to hear positive reviews, and certainly thats what a forum is for...debate and passionate conversation about something shared. That team would not invite members of this forum every year to sit and nit-pick every single detail if they didnt want to improve, and our feedback is just as valid...whether it be dirt or sleeves or beards. The reason feedback is getting more and more "nit-picky" is that the game is so amazing, the only thing left is the ridiculous details.
You know the difference between whining and constructive criticism? Its when you agree or disagree with the person. I don't necessarily care about the sleeve, but I would love dirt as detailed as the grass. Is one nit picking and one a valid point?
I can see that it gets annoying when its posted over and over, I get that. However, the squeaky wheel does get greased. As long as the company cares so much to hear our opinion, I am very glad there are people giving it to them. If its redundant or maybe not worded in a constructive way...I dont read it. (and they probably dont either)
ok, lecture over!
Here is what I found today...as per usual, everyone is 50% right and 50% wrong, like most things in life. Looking at the Heyward shot, there is a LOT that looks very similar to me. No question the lighting it better, but I can see the points about the catchers gear and some of the details, player models etc. If i look quickly and objectively, there isnt a huge change.
However, when I compare the Chen shots (and most of the night game shots)...this is where things get interesting. The face improvement is remarkable, but what really jumps out is the lighting for nights games. Reflective light from the field, highlights on the player and cast shadows from the overheads make this so much better. I like the improvement in the folds of the fabric, and they way the hat fits. Light and shadow cast around the stadium is much improved as well.
Honestly I was not blown away when I saw these...but the more I looked at the improvements, and the more I imagined them all together in motion, the more excited I am to see this game.
Though certainly a small thing, I do see the point....it is called the greatest show on dirt for a reason. And with the new grass, the smooth concrete look just jumps out a bit more.
Great comparisons bodhiball. I really like how the lighting changes the entire look of the game. It actually looks like light is being casted into the stadium as opposed to being like a room with a light turned on (if that makes any sense).
Also, you can really see the change in the color of stadium walls, etc. Looks much better. Seems to me that the size and depth of stadiums is much improved as well.
To everyone saying that dirt textures don't matter or are not even noticeable, take a look at these two videos of Pro Yakyuu Spirits and tell me the dirt textures add nothing to the game:
I guess I'm just another idiot complainer, but I was really hoping the textures in the PS4 version of The Show would get a massive overhaul. They stood out to me in PS3 version because everything else looked so great but I fear they are going to stand out even more in the PS4 version.

I see what you're say, but.........................static dirt and static chalk lines only go so far.
