NBA 2K14 News Post

Damon Bruce is in hot water over a segment which called out women in sports. Bruce's comments have caused quite a bit of controversy locally, with advertisers and listeners complaining about his diatribe. There is much speculation that his show is in trouble in the San Francisco market. As you may know, Bruce has been the voice of NBA 2K's halftime show for some time -- so its very possible this could end up costing him his gig with 2K Sports as well.

We'll be keeping an eye out for any news on this front! Do you think his rant is worthy of him losing his show and other things like his 2K halftime voice gig?

I wonder how it would sound with Ernie Johnson doing it.

And yes, the WNBA is boring. What?

I'm cool with female reporters, as long as they know their stuff and can carry themselves in a way that allows them to be taken seriously. There aren't many though, and I have to admit I enjoyed our local sideline reporter mainly because she was adorable. I'm fine with Doris Burke in game and in real life, almost because she's not really relying on her looks.
True, but her looks did get the attention of one of the OS users. Don't remember his name though, predominately saw his interested in the Finals thread a couple months ago...

What kind of a stupid attitude is that women shouldn't be allowed to play? Sounds as stupid as not allowing players by skin color. If someone has the ability to play at the NBA level, why would you ban teams from signing them? Sexual dimorphism in humans makes it unlikely that top leagues in any sport will have female players but there's absolutely no reason to ban them.

Damon Bruce seems to make the same idiotic arguments. He seems to think that most female announcers are incompetent and no rules should be ever changed to be "less manly" by which he means that rookie hazing should include death threats and extortion of money and if you don't allow that then you've "feminized" sports. For a guy who makes his money by his speaking abilities he does seem to have a way of putting his foot in his mouth. And what makes him such an expert in sports when all he's ever done is broadcasting?

Its not about orientation or race for me. Its about gender. I believe there is too much room for scandal. Granted there are women that can probably measure up in the nba, but I'm not sure that's a good idea. Think of the camaraderie of a team if a woman and a man were on the same team and involved in a relationship around the same time they get knocked out of the playoffs. It wouldn't look good for the league, it wouldn't look good for the players and the fans will **** on them.

I think a more healthy solution is strengthening women sports and making changes that help them. Softball imo is alot more entertaining than baseball. Women's tennis is a lot more intriguing to me than Men's tennis(even though men's tennis has been on the rise lately) The WNBA needs to do something to adapt to change. College Womens basketball is far more entertaining to watch.

I find whenever they bring up women in leagues to be an ultimate cop out. Feminists trying to make everything equal. Everything isn't equal. That's not how life works. Men are better in some sports then women and women are better in some sports than men. I don't think a solution to better a league is to say, hey I think we should add men(/women) to our league.

Before i go on to say this I HAVE NOTHING AGAINST WOMEN'S SPORTS.

THE NBA should stay a men's league
THE NFL should stay a Men's league

Women would get crushed in both im sorry it's the truth

This is like saying lets watch Ronda Rousey fight Cain or Jon jones...not happening

So just because a girl can hit a few jump shots or have some nice moves against other women, does not mean she could do that with a Dwight Howard, Lebron James, Tim Duncan, Derrick Rose, etc. on the court against them.

It'd be nothing more than a circus, a show to generate attention. Sorry but that's the truth.
Dude and the NBA has already soften'd up

I do not want to see something like flag football in the NBA ..Imagine if Blake/Deandre dunked on somebody from the WNBA or Lebron bulldozed inside the paint

THEY WOULD BE BAN OR THE RULES WOULD BE " YOU CAN'T DO THIS ANYMORE "

I never really dug this guy. I rather have a known guy. It doesn't have to be kenny or chuck. Jalen rose is in live and if he does well in the halftime reports, then it'll be good to see him. If 2k is always pushing authencity even in its presentation, then it should be someone even most casual fans know. That's all I'm saying.

Clark Kellogg is a terrible choice for commentator. No one know who the guy is unless you are a die hard 2k fan and remember him from past hoop games. Doesn't make sense to have One Real commentator and one game commentator. If we're talking about immersion.

Well, same with Damon Bruce Guy. Nationally, he's not well known. If he's nationally known, its a niche following, ala podcast. The casual nba or even die hard does not know who this guy is. Did Kenny mail it in in 2k7? I find him great in 2k7. I don't think he will mail it in. I think he's much more professional than chuck.

I love how a sports radio personality that's paid to express his opinion does so about something that's relevant to sports and gets a ton of heat... Don't listen then. By the way, I agree with Bruce. Women's sports are just simply not entertaining or as competitive as men's - Oh no, but he said it out loud! I'd rather watch a bad movie than the WNBA - it's just not a good product and viewership numbers/attendance will back that up.

You already got Title IX which has hamstrung athletic departments around the country, marketing campaigns that go on for a months focused on the female demographic, and pink gear throughout the fall raising awareness for breast cancer, pro leagues, drafts, etc. I'd say women's sports have it pretty good.

He happens to be a human being with an opinion....what's wrong with having a ''voice'' in the world of political correctness?

# 49 A69Scorelord @ 11/11/13 02:05 PM
Could be a blessing in disguise for 2k..

Not that Damon Bruce does a bad job but I would love to see a legit halftime show:

Previous games, top plays, stats analysis, upcoming games, highlights, etc..

EJ, Kenny, Chuck, and Shaq would make it entertaining enough to not just skip over it.. just as long as it doesn't get repetitive in the first 30 games

I remember that. She's not a bad looking woman or anything. I just don't expect her to show up scantily clad in SI or a GoDaddy commercial, and that's a good thing.

I think it's silly when women in sports complain about being objectified and not being taken seriously, then do things that make them not be taken seriously. Can't have it both ways, sister.

No one knows who Clark Kellogg is? He's not a real commentator? How about if YOU don't know who somebody is you don't make blanket statements as if nobody else does.

That's who Clark Kellogg is. Read up, clearly you need to.

I don't think having name guys make things authentic. Having guys sound like real sportscasters (because they are) and bring the right delivery and energy makes things sound authentic. I'd rather have Bruce say something that sounds right rather than Barkley mumble the same something the 50th time.

I love Jalen Rose but he doesn't give the same energy as an announcer/half time breakdown guy. I'm not sure how it would sound. In my head it doesn't sound great. I find ESPN's halftime underwhelming.

Also Kellogg is a real commentator. He's announced for the Pacers. Just because you might not have heard of him doesn't mean he's not a "real announcer". Focus on the delivery, not the name. If you have issues with Clark's delivery, that's a different story. I remember when Kenny Smith did color for 2K. His name didn't make the game sound much better than Kellogg. I remember him being a little underwhelming.

Jim Barnett is considered one of the best color guys in the league. You've probably never heard of him. But if anyone says he's not "real" but Magic Johnson is, I will stab them in the face.

I'd love to have Webber in Kellogg's place though. Big name guy AND a good color guy. And inching our way to a full TNT staff.

Webers a little long winded...we'd need more disk space for his commentary

Definitely would love to have C-Webb. The only thing I'd really want improved for halftime is highlights from other games while I'm in a season. I wouldn't need fully modeled sets with 3d characters because people would jus skip it anyway. The max maybe like NFL 2k5, just have Ernie bring you in and go straight into the highlights. The only time I think they should do an actual full 3d set and everything would be for weekly shows like CHOOPS 2k8 had. That'd be perfect. They could probably even use audio from real broadcasts like they did for "real voice." Can you imagine, the Shaqtin A Fool part comes on and all you hear is "My BOY, Javale McGee!! & Kendrick Perkins aka TRAGIC BRONSON!" as he counts down through the highlights of ail fails in 2k that week, generated like the highlights in NFL 2k5....Ugh I hate thinking this much lol

That would be glorious. I would love generated highlights from around the league in association. Wouldn't even be hard to do.

It'd be hilarious to have your own bad plays show up on Shaqtin A Fool.

He does NCAA games, too. How does he not know who Clark is? His son was a big star for Ohio U in March Madness a couple of years ago. And Clark himself was a big, huge star for Ohio State.

P.S. Totally forgot about him playing one on one with the President......

Did you read what I said? At what point did I say worst NBA player isn't better than the best WNBA player? What point did I say men aren't more physical? I specifically mentioned sexual dimorphism but I guess that went over your head.

What? Are you going to ban gay players as well because they "might have a relationship"? How about friendships? Should you ban those too? Ugh. Are you implying players can't be professional about their jobs?

Again, you must have completely missed my post. I don't understand why you're quoting me, nothing I said has anything to do with what you said. The reason why only men play in the NBA is and should be that there are no women good enough, not that they've been banned from the league.
