NBA 2K14 News Post

Well, according to Mike Wang, during a podcast with PlayStation.Blog, a couple of developers won't even touch the Xbox One.

Quote:
I love the PS4! I‘m a convert. I wasn’t a huge fan of the PS3 controller, but DualShock 4 is amazing, it feels perfect. I love the changes that Sony has done! The machine itself is ridiculous, it’s so powerful, so much easier to develop for. In the office it’s unanimous; we have a couple people who don’t play anything else now, they won’t touch Xbox One. We love the PS4, it’s a great system.

Mike will probably get some unwanted feedback from this and the Sony fanboys will have a field day, but let's not forget who he was talking to... a site dedicated to the PlayStation. I wonder what he'd say if he was talking to Major Nelson?

I'm sure he'll chime in soon to clear the air.

UPDATE: Mike Wang has checked in (Post #47).

Quote:
Yeah, just to be clear. I have nothing against XBOne. It's a great system. I was just trying to communicate that I like the PS4 much more than the PS3 (both in terms of development and the controller.) When I stated that I was a convert, it's because for the last 2 gens I've primarily been an Xbox gamer, but this gen I can see myself playing a lot of PS4.

The unanimous comment was NOT that the entire company or dev team favored PS4 over XB1, I was trying to say that everyone in the office agrees that the PS4 is a great system. That's all.

And yes, it's true that a couple people in the office are Sony fanboys and won't touch the Xbox 1... but it's also true that some people in the office are MS fanboys and won't touch the PS4.

Hope that clears some things up a bit.

UPDATE #2: (Post #134).

Quote:
Another thing I should add... just because I was praising Sony, that doesn't mean I don't also love what MS did with the Xbox One. The controller upgrades are really nice, especially the feel and function of the Impact triggers and analog sticks. A definite improvement over 360, which I also loved.

NBA 2K14 will look and play great on both systems... there's no "inferior" version. Just as all console wars, it will come down to the games, personal preferences, and what you're looking to get out of your console.

I wouldn't let anything I said in that interview sway you one way or the other... personally, I'm still on the fence as to which console to get first. But really, I don't think you can go wrong with either.

thats my point..but they recovered. I'm sure it wasn't any easier, but the games came out regardless and look more or less the same. I have no issues with a dev having a preference, if he/she is making a game for a difficult platform and it still comes out, then whats the issue? its not like take two is going to stop developing for xbo cause its difficult. Profitability is too much of a risk. We all have an aspect that sucks about our job. By the way, how come no one here has inferred that the PC was difficult? lol. Jay kay with that one.

Wait...

WHAT?! This is hilarious. Sorry. No. Sony and EA have been in bed for a LONG time up until this year. Of course, Sony and 2K are cozying up to each other NOW that MS and EA started hugging...

The Xbox one isn't necessarily horrible for example IW could have did 1080p on COD Ghosts that doesn't even look next gen but MS said no because they would use the GPU off the Kinect and that would screw over the camera performance
I have a ps4 and x1 pre order. I'm canceling the ps4 and getting the x1. I was waiting for Sony to show more games at the Tokyo gameshow. That never so going the other way

Sony, to date, has not turned a profit on the PS3. That's not a position any company wants to have to "recover" from.

Let's see, for me:

1. Xbox Live services
2. Xbox exclusive titles that I like (Gears for one)
3. I don't trust Sony/support the US company take your pick.
4. I like the controller MUCH better.
5. Kinect with every system (hence the main difference in price)

A developer's perspective is based on the system and the tools to work with it. Your's will be the end user and they are normally COMPLETELY different. Don't change your mind because of what someone else says. Now, the controller comment is one thing. But if you've always liked MS's controller, I don't see that preference really changing all that much.

Never underestimate the joy people get from being "right" about something or being able to say they told you so.

It's all the same. We're all sports fans here, or we should be. How many times does a player or a draftee pan out on a different team come back and style on your team of choice and fellow fan is all "See? I knew he'd be good! I told y'all!"

A similar mindset is what's at work here.

This sounded like a political speech after something was said and taken out of context.

The thing that I liked from that Mike Wang comment was how the system is very easy to develop for. Then again, the Xbox One is probably similar, too.

Still no clue which of these systems I'm going to pick up.

I'm proud of my body. Bring it on! Take a picture! It'll last longer.

BTW: Mike's post pretty much ends the debate I would say.

I'm getting the xbox one version and hoping for an option to use custom rosters. For me its the UI, and that kinect will actually be used since everyone has it. I like that ms went all in on kinect, even if I use it once a month, I like knowing that somewhere is a developer that will come up with something cool to use it and has no excuse for not developing on that inspiration. Now if the xbox one version has some deficient experience on NBA 2k, my favorite game, then I'll suck it up and eat the cost minus the trade in and get the PS4 version. Part of my reason is that I live in the UK now and the xbox one is coming out first. As I look at my day one purchases, I am struggling with the PS4 list so most of my games are multi platform on that system with the exception of NBA2k14. I probably would have gotten Madden for it also if not for the smart glass integration that I want to try out. As for the more power/less money argument, I look at it as a whole package. System + services and I am a bit jingoistic. I remember the

Man as if I wasn't already looking forward to converting myself... This just cements it further.

At this point I legitimately feel sorry for the uninformed.

maybe the graphics for 2k14 on ps4 will be better than the xone version. but in cur gen i think the graphics looks better on 360 than ps3

Exactly what I got from the article. To me, it was clear. This was Clearly in perspective to last gen and this gen referring to the ps brand. How anyone got confused is beyond me. Its just news sites trying to stir up an nonexistent console war.

Controller? You realise ps4 has a new controller and it is getting rave reviews from those who hated ds3?

American company? MS makes xbox in mexico, and sony hires more people in the US then MS.

Support. Red ring of death. MS took 2 years before a threat of lawsuit before they admitted an issue and did the right thing. Over priced hard drives, lack of peripheral support.

I swear people live in a bubble.

PS4 is clearly a gamers system, MS has a bloated OS and is forcing kinect on everyone. Pre-orders show MS made major mistakes with x1. Even in the US x1 is behind ps4.
Both Companies Actually make it in china using slave labor, but thats a discussion for another time. Most of electronics are made at FoxConn. Laptops, phones, and Consoles. You name it.

On topic, you can't blame people for liking their IP. I'm getting a ps4, but sorry XBO launch titles are far more impressive than Sony's.

Good catch. If you ask Sony however, Im sure they would have rather been in the clear in the initial stages instead of some time after. And it's not as if their platform shot off into the stratosphere after devs became more familiar with their system. They merely became what they would/could have been from the start.
