NBA 2K14 News Post

We just got a new screenshot from the folks at 2K Sports of MyGM mode on next-gen consoles. Billed as a complete re-imagination of the franchise mode. The newest shot shows what is likely one of the first screens you'll see in the game: building your GM and picking a style.

Will you specialize in the art of negotiating? Or perhaps you want to be a businessman to maximize your bottom line? If you become an expert in assessing Emotional Intelligence, you will have the powers of persuasion at your disposal.

In the shot below, you see the GM level up options. There are seven different attribute categories with 10 upgrades in each category. Also, you can acquire GM-specific special abilities to use to get a leg up on the competition.

What do you think about the RPG-like elements we're seeing from MyGM?

Why the hell would human beings do the same thing as each other when they can't even see each other's decisions? No two humans who are playing this mode are going to be making the exact same decisions as each other.

Being a GM shouldn't be subject to having binary qualities - either you have it or you don't - because that's not how the real world works. Qualities come in degrees - A is good at X, but B is better at X, and C is even better than B at X. You don't get better at something through buying a package for 5,000 VC. You do it through experience.

NON-CPU GMs shouldn't be able to slap on signature skills before being a GM for even a day. You should earn a good reputation and skill. Not buy it.
Now we're getting somewhere. I can agree with what you're saying to an extent, but think about it this way.

Say you and I are GMs in the world of basketball, we both offer the same qualities, and we're pretty even when it comes to making good decisions. But say you're better than me at player managing, and I'm better than you at finances? People don't necessarily need a ton of experience to be good at something, sometimes it comes natural.

But at the same time, we both can improve at other areas areas throughout our career, too. I think that's all 2K is trying to implement here. For your idea of getting better based on decisions you make, I like that a lot. But it's the first year of this new mode, and the way 2K has this set up is realistic enough for them to build on something just like you described

I remember when I was on the 2k forums back in the 2k9-2k10 days waiting for developer insights that took forever or never came. Marketing has never really been 2k's strongest selling point, and the social media push has only made things worse. But, when the majority of kids are on Twitter and Facebook this is what you get. It sucks, but it is what it is at this point.
I agree with ya, 2k's marketing has gotten worse in recent years with their marketing attention more now on social media. I understand 2k has never been great at marketing, but with a week and half to go untill release and with no demo to even play you would of thought their marketing team could of whipped something up about the gameplay and modes. All I pretty much know at this point is that the graphics will be much better, which is expected if your spending $400-$500 on new hardware. I just find it puzzling why they would wait untill the final week untill they start coming out with any detailed info, thats certainly not going to help their preorder sales at all.

After the release you won't need to know anything

I was hoping for gameplay and more my career news especially with those 40hours+ new scenes and all that in your first season alone if they don't release it then oh well

We kind of get the idea what 2k will be gameplay wise if this was Live and EA id be concerned

How do you plan to play a demo when neither of the consoles are out yet let me know please?

the only modes i play in this 2k is OA - Online Association, and MyPlayer (Blacktop, Crew), these are the only modes that i have played since this game has come out, and not one of them has been fixed or updated since we have started. There is still a lot of glitches just in the OA, they finally updated rosters, but most likely this will be the only update they will do for the OA rosters.

So lets hope they fix and update these 2 things in next gen because they wont be doing it in the near future for current gen no more!

I know its impossible to play a demo. All I was trying to say was with no demo it just makes it worse since we can't even test the game.

This seems like a direct copy of Madden 25's connected franchise "owner mode". Even the "what kind of GM are you?" is exactly like "what kind of owner are you?" selection. Come on, they are both limited to three personality types that are almost exactly the same (the business man, the personality that gets along with the players, and the personality that appeals to fans emotions)... at least they sequenced them differently and added a crappy 2K user interface.

I don't have high hopes for this game mode because of the MyTeam precedent. In my opinion MyTeam was a poorly implemented copy of UT. I hope 2K proves me wrong.

If all conversations are saved, and they can have an impact on the game, why would they need signature skills? Your decisions and conversations already build up your managing style. I don't know how not having the choice to choose a style prevents you from improving at other areas. If they couldn't do the attribute thing (which I don't really buy), it wouldn't really matter because all your decisions and conversations are saved in the game.

I can see how people can be naturally good at some things, I just don't see how it's realistic for them to then to have their weaknesses to be levelled out by a discount. These are rookie GMs, we're talking about. No experience.

Well my proof is from the multitude of credible guys, including one from this site who said the caps looked like real players now. Aholbert and the rest of the guys who attended have no reason to lie about that

Hopefully instead of VC it's skill points, like offline myplayer last year, and VC for the MyPlayer. Also, can someone tell me if they're having more slots to save online modes? 3 was not enough for me last year.
