NBA 2K14 News Post

We just got a new screenshot from the folks at 2K Sports of MyGM mode on next-gen consoles. Billed as a complete re-imagination of the franchise mode. The newest shot shows what is likely one of the first screens you'll see in the game: building your GM and picking a style.

Will you specialize in the art of negotiating? Or perhaps you want to be a businessman to maximize your bottom line? If you become an expert in assessing Emotional Intelligence, you will have the powers of persuasion at your disposal.

In the shot below, you see the GM level up options. There are seven different attribute categories with 10 upgrades in each category. Also, you can acquire GM-specific special abilities to use to get a leg up on the competition.

What do you think about the RPG-like elements we're seeing from MyGM?

I wonder if there will be an option to turn the conversation engine off, or at least limit it? I personally wouldn't, but a lot of people have been complaining about just wanting to play games.
They've told us that if you don't want to do all that, you're free to just play the games and let the CPU handle all the micro managing

Again, 2k tending to those who only know how to shoot the ball from half court..

There has been no mention of VC anywhere in MyGM, and from my recollection, nowhere in NG have a seen a screen involving VC

Yeah, to each their own. It's just, at this point, I'd much prefer knowledge over speculation. Also, surprises aren't always great. Sometimes they can be, "Surprise! MyGM is motored exclusively by VC!" or "Surprise! Classic teams are still here, but we never said how many classic teams! Good luck with the '98 Bulls and '85 Bucks!"

I know, I'm definitely sounding like a broken record at this point, but I sure miss the straight forward approach.

Hypothetical example:

Q: Will the Raptors have their dino-jerseys as alternates?
A: They will not.

That'd be bad news, but at least we'd know.

I'm praying that this is the case. VC would absolutely destroy this mode.

Well 2k has to have a bottom line otherwise there wouldn't be a game now would there?

Even the masses could care less about some screenshot that tells them absolutely nothing about the game. This screenshot marketing needs to go its the most ridiculous marketing I have ever seen leading up to a launch for a game. They should of planned and had detailed written insights by now like they used to have.

All you guys expecting more than screenshots for this mode are going to be sorely disappointed. We're not gonna get a video on it, or a developer diary.

At the most what we're getting is a write up by Simballer (one of the leads on this mode). He said he would try to get us an article on it by the end of the week, but it's not guaranteed .

I don't like it believe me, it's frustrating as hell. I'm just relaying what was said. Who on here really stays on Facebook anyway to look for 2k updates? I remember when I was on the 2k forums back in the 2k9-2k10 days waiting for developer insights that took forever or never came. Marketing has never really been 2k's strongest selling point, and the social media push has only made things worse. But, when the majority of kids are on Twitter and Facebook this is what you get. It sucks, but it is what it is at this point.

What the hell is so cheap about giving us a way to differentiate and have a certain speciality that other GMs might not have?

I didn't know that everyone had to be the same with no special qualities and nothing to bring to their job.

Unless robots are the only ones playing this game, that clearly won't be the case.

They will release My GM screenshots all this week , like there's nothing else to talk

Like i said yesterday, there's so much questions yet in 10 days until launch

how about online mode?
video of gameplay?
create a team?
create a player?
realmaker back?
Developer Insight video of My Career?
Developer Insight of defense ?
some infos about Euroleague players?
Some infos about legends ?

It's kinda weird to have a Next-gen Michael Jordan and don't use it to promote the game...
or some type of insight into this eco-motion/footplanting their trying to push..SOMETHING?? or something about the art team getting all the players heads scanned...

I feel ya.

But idk, gameplay is the only aspect I feel like I NEED to have info on. CG 2k14 is great enough to where I'm not worried about that on next gen.

Info on little nit picky things like jerseys or classic teams, or even features in modes have never stopped me from buying the game.

I'm honestly just frustrated that Ronnie said this was going to be in depth info. They marketed current gen way better than next gen. At least lets see Ronnie and ld2k playing a game or something.

But according to you, having any specially quality that seperates you from the pack is, "cheap".

So, should everyone be lifeless drones who does their job the same as everyone else? Or is it acceptable for some guys to be better than others in a certain area?(which is basically what this game is letting us do)

Patience people patience is key.

Also creates a dynamic of choosing a style you feel suits you best.
In FM, you don't upgrade your attributes by clicking a button labelled " [+] ". You upgrade (or downgrade) them with your decisions in the game.

You choose a style you feel suits you best by trial and error. If the first way didn't work, you just try another way. It doesn't make any sense to give discounts for choosing a style.

I think he was just saying that 2K are releasing these screens for guys who are so dull in basketball knowledge, they think taking halfcourt shots the whole game would be acceptable

That "special" quality shouldn't be a signature skill card you can just slap on to yourself.

Why the hell would human beings do the same thing as each other when they can't even see each other's decisions? No two humans who are playing this mode are going to be making the exact same decisions as each other.

Being a GM shouldn't be subject to having binary qualities - either you have it or you don't - because that's not how the real world works. Qualities come in degrees - A is good at X, but B is better at X, and C is even better than B at X. You don't get better at something through buying a package for 5,000 VC. You do it through experience.

NON-CPU GMs shouldn't be able to slap on signature skills before being a GM for even a day. You should earn a good reputation and skill. Not buy it.
