NBA 2K14 News Post

2K Sports and Machinima streamed NBA 2K14 at 4:00 PM EST this afternoon. You can watch the stream now archived at the following link: Click here to open stream in a new tab.

We saw Oklahoma City and Houston played on sim settings as Chris Manning (@LD2K) talking through different features in the game.

After watching the game played on the stream, it definitely appears NBA 2K14 is a step forward for the franchise in a good way. The defenses are much better this year, but not so much so that they overpower the offenses. If you play good offense you will still score plenty of points. Blocks were nowhere near overdone from what I could tell, and the new play in the lane was a subtle improvement. There were some passes which were a bit crazy/odd -- but that's one of those things I'm very willing to forgive.

The shot percentages look much better, and the overall look of the game looks definitely improved. This isn't a complete overhaul, but there are subtle improvements across the board and the gameplay appeared much more balanced overall. My biggest gripe was the lack of fouls called in the game -- I'm hoping that's not a typical thing. Regardless, the game looked very impressive overall.

NBA 2K14 releases October 1 for current gen consoles.

I think your right, I dont remember ever seeing this much gameplay in the past. Im getting more excited about this game this year than I ever have

So i guess 2k thinks in real life there are no fouls?

And lol at 44:10 when Machinima brings up to LD2K tweets asking about any Association changes, he can't think of anything. Then he says "We've been busy with this little thing called next gen". Yeah, what about the four years before 2k14?

Parsons still looks horrible & Selfalosha still looks like j Cole , hew grew his hair out a season ago. I may be not picking a but I just don't understand how 2k could be so lazy

but that's not how the conversation went at all...

Guess you were just going for shock value here?

No free throw attempts at all ? Thats kinda scary cus there was plenty of contact in that paint

Yeah I didn't even notice there weren't any fouls....hopefully they were on time constraints and turned them off..

Nope. Care to explain how the context was different?

I hope thats the case.

No blocking foul, no shooting fouls, no charges, or reaching fouls on superstar sim settings..........

Making it really hard for me to support this franchise.....I understand that you're supposed to defend your company and all but I saw more of the same nuisances that weren't addressed in 2k13 and previous versions.(I.e. The flipping arm glitch that happened on the steal attempt after the tip off) things like that not being fixed could be the reason people are calling the devs "lazy" even though I'm sure they put hard work into each product.

Also, I must be crazy but something about these physics just still don't seem all the way right to me but then again it may just be my preference of the preset animations(I.e dunks, steals, blocks) from the previous. The fact that a player can jump in the air on a block attempt and get pushed back by air bothers me a lot. Ld got an ankle breaker it looks like early on but that same spin move problem that was in 2k13 happened and he lost the ball. I also saw that botched put back by Asik that turned into a rebound....hopefully these minor occurrences are "rare" but it's little gameplay things like that that make me question how much these guys actually play their product. If they played as extensively as I expect them I expect fixes for stuff like that. also if they play extensively then they would have knew about the blocking problem early on in 2k13s lifespan. They also would see that blacktop was reduced to nothing but 2pointers once everyone started to play for the quickest win. I may be wrong and I have no problem being proved wrong but I've been paying attention to little details like this in the time I've spent playing 2k games.

Yeah...definitely a little odd now that I am watching it again....We're there any fouls in the Knicks/ Lakers footage?

He didn't say anything about them being too busy to work on anything association related...he was jokingly referencing it being difficult getting in touch with them because they've been busy with next gen...the first thing he said when they asked him about Assoc. was that he'd ask them for specifics, but there were changes made. (Which could be a crock, but there's no need to make anything up here)

In the knicks lakers game there were some serious collisions pretty often.

Dribbling seems stiff...and I haven't seen many moves in any 2k vids...im worried about isomotion this year.

The game looked great. Everything to me screamed polish! Very fluid player movement, outstanding animations of course this is 2K we'er talking about, and the spacing and defense looked phenomenal, minus the lack of skill of the human players. Who ever says this game looks and plays like last years game obviously either never played 2K13 or are just complaining to complain and plan to buy Next Gen regardless of 2K14's improvements. I know personally I can't wait to get my hands on current gen and Next Gen NBA 2K14!

there is a lot of triangle offense for both team, maybe more for the thunder.
natrurally, there is a high post and a low post. it is good. maybe the come back of the real triangle offense for classic bulls team.

I saw one blocking call. It was on Thabeet looked like he tried to flop when Howard was backing down, but no shooting fouls was just odd.

I wish they would have ran some plays, there might have been two times they called plays only to not use them. Oh Houston as some know is a high pace team that runs almost exclusive pick and roll, and iso, I am sure that will change some this year though. I actually expect the spacing to be sort of bad when Howard and Asik on the floor at the same time because the defense should be sagging off of whoever is not on the low block.

Running little to no plays is not good advertising for your product IMO
