NBA 2K14 News Post

2K Sports and Machinima streamed NBA 2K14 at 4:00 PM EST this afternoon. You can watch the stream now archived at the following link: Click here to open stream in a new tab.

We saw Oklahoma City and Houston played on sim settings as Chris Manning (@LD2K) talking through different features in the game.

After watching the game played on the stream, it definitely appears NBA 2K14 is a step forward for the franchise in a good way. The defenses are much better this year, but not so much so that they overpower the offenses. If you play good offense you will still score plenty of points. Blocks were nowhere near overdone from what I could tell, and the new play in the lane was a subtle improvement. There were some passes which were a bit crazy/odd -- but that's one of those things I'm very willing to forgive.

The shot percentages look much better, and the overall look of the game looks definitely improved. This isn't a complete overhaul, but there are subtle improvements across the board and the gameplay appeared much more balanced overall. My biggest gripe was the lack of fouls called in the game -- I'm hoping that's not a typical thing. Regardless, the game looked very impressive overall.

NBA 2K14 releases October 1 for current gen consoles.

Really love the defense and guys that are shot blockers should actually be able to block shots at a realistic rate this year.

Was a little disappointed to hear they didnt tweak the injuries so their would be a little more in played games. I suppose we can bump the injury slider up and durability down in Association to see more in game injuries, but it would have been nice to see them tweak it some.

Overall the game looks like it plays much smoother with better spacing on the floor. Cant wait till this game comes out, if it is as good as advertised for once MLBTS might get a little less playing time.

1 other thing that needs some work is the lack of fouls called. Sliders shoudl fix that but for once I wish they could get it right without having to play a bunch of games testing sliders out before starting a Association.

Major injuries dont happen often in the NBA.
More like ankle tweeks, tendinitis, soreness
Coaches monitor minutes more often now than they have in the pass.

Im not talking about major injuries happening more often in game, just would like to see more turned ankles, maybe a scratch eye, and stuff like that in game more often. The way it is know its rare to see any in game injury no matter how major or minor it is.

I always drop durability and raise injury frequency in game to get more injuries

Another year where we won't get to shoot free throws I guess.

So no one has issues with 6-8players in the paint all the time. Spacing still doesnt look good to me and passing overall looks weird.

Will wait and see when pc version comes out.

Thats what I do as well in my Association. I dont go crazy with injury frequency but I do lower durability down close to 0. I also edit guys like Bynum down all the way on durability if they arent all ready. Its basically a given that guys like Bynum and Oden will get injured IRL anyway so I make sure they get injured in my Association I wish NBA2k would implement manual injuries like MLBTS has so you can injure guys in your Association and follow real life injuries. I hated seeing D Rose and Bynum play at all in my Association mode at all last year.

Yeah it is looking like once again foul sliders will need to be jacked up to 100 to see fouls. Wouldnt surprise me if the lack of fouls is cause if there were a lot of fouls the online whiners would cry about to many fouls in games.

Theres probably a lot of people you would like to do that too, considering the some the BS you have to put up with being the spokes person for 2k.

No demo, pretty obvious.

Anyway I thought the spacing wasn't as good as it was in previous video. I saw more random cutting and the paint was mostly clogged.

Passing is way too easy and passes animation out of the post are really ugly looking.

This gameplay didn't impress me one bit. Blocksand inside contacts looked good but where are the fouls?

Well I guess the paint is gonna be clogged when there is Perkins Asik and Dwight on the floor.

Asik starting PF???

My thoughts

1) No fouls. No collisions. Very dissappointing. Even if you turned them off, why? That's one of the "features" you all are showing off this year.
2) L2dk you are bogus for letting the other dude keep shooting late release jumpers
3) Beautiful reverse slam and alley oop from westbrook. Also nice alley from Lin to Howard
4) I'm noticing a lot of weird passing animations, especially during the middle of other animations
5) Durant actually seems to match his speed in this game, especially on the break
6) Gametrack still loses plays from the beginning of the game (but at least the score looks correct)
7) Some of the defensive body up animations look like hand checking.

Looks like I shouldn't have judged 2K's marketing team this year - they were completely right not to show any promo material. Not to be insensitive but they truly weren't given anything to work with.

EDIT: To be fair, there's not much more that can be done on the current platform.

# 78 Vni @ 09/24/13 01:11 AM
You know you're a scrub when you're invited by 2K to do bench animations mo-cap.

# 79 TheHypeMachine6 @ 09/24/13 01:12 AM
My first impressions of 2K14 are really positive, but there are a few things I noticed in the demo that were either bad or just missing all together:

- No fouls?? Whats an NBA game without them?

- Ibaka missing an open layup, was that an incorrect control input by the user or just a bad shot?

- The terrible release on most jumpers/ 3pt attempts, was that staged just to show that FG & 3PT% has been dumbed down without slider adjustments

- Passing animations didn't look that fluid, was that because they were attempting flashy passes repeatedly?

- At 48:44 Harden steps out of bounds after sliding?!? And Ibaka does too spinning baseline at 59:47 :-(

Not looking to be picky but these were things i noticed and if that was actually the retail version they were playing does that mean it's too late to fix?

I think 2k14 for current gen is the demo for next gen. I like everything i've seen here, can't wait. I feel like although we've seen less insights and feature articles, we've had more gameplay than in previous years.
