Game Informer has posted their hands-on preview of NBA 2K14, as Matt Bertz lists 25 things you need to know about the game, which includes gameplay, presentation, online and association mode details.
This year's big push with the Association mode centers on re-tuning free agency. Visual Concepts reworked the player logic so they have a keener understanding of the market when deciding whether to re-up with their current franchise or test the waters in free agency. As a result, you should see many more players hitting the open market.
We shall see..
Hopefully 2k can do better with Association than they did last year
In My Player mode you can play through NBA team schedules for prizes that increase in value the further into the season you play.
Can someone go into depth what you think this means im maybe a little thrown off from this because in my mind im taking this as This is Mycareer with 2 people maybe a friend on your team or against you or whatever.
The association mode has been touched at least. The free agency was a big issue, hopefully they fixed it. They didn't mention the D-League coming back though, sadly. And I would've liked to see the Summer League included too.
And also, I love the way the CPU actually reads and reacts on offense now. In the past, when you cut off the CPU's options, the play will break down and they'll literally just stand there and dribble until the shot clock runs down, which was disheartening.
I just really, really hope that most if not all of that can be edited by us.
I mean, I want to be able to decide if a player is loyal or not, if he wants money over winning, starting over role, etc; need to be able to alter if a teams goes for having capspace for next FA or rather stack by trades; want to be able to decide if teams cover the ball handler or the roll man, to further distinct defenses; need to be able to alter how each team eases its injured players; want to edit coaches grades, staff payroll, players age, etc.
I specially hope that on next gen, customization and editing, receive exponential upgrades/additions, also that association receives even way more focus than the welcomed (yet not enough) attention it has received on current gen.
P.S:
Loved the Crews/sounds/presentation/crowd features !
I want to know if things like Player Morale as well rotation/draft logic was worked on. If a player is injured do they still lose morale? Will I see teams like the Cavs signing Chris Paul to play PG even though they have Irving? How about the ability to protect traded draft picks? Are the "new" CBA's in? Can we Amnesty players (for the teams who haven't Amnestied anyone yet)? How about the ability to intervene in simmed games?
I'm sure there's some questions that I'm forgetting, but if they tweaked/added those few things, I would be in basketball heaven.
Now if there is a second and third rotator forcing extra passing around the perimeter, I will be in basketball heaven!
Amen! I actually put that in the wishlist, to consult an NBA defensive coach to help program the AI rotations since most teams have adopted the same defensive schemes on pick and rolls. If I have to make an extra pass on the perimeter after kicking it out to a shooter, I will be floored. thats hoops in todays NBA, help the helper.
I also hope not all teams rotate with the same tenacity and cohesion. lets just say its different playing the bulls than the suns.
NBA 2K14 has two new stat overlays called "Scoring Breakdown" and "Hustle Stats" that track points off penetration, points off mid-range jumpers, points off fast break, points off assists, points off post plays, and second chance points.
No NBA telecast ever shows these stat overlays consistently. It's very rare to see them in real life, just like "Top 10 point guard scorers" or "Top 10 passing big men."
Hopefully we will be able to do some of this PnR stuff... and the defense will be able to adjust properly.
Funny you put this video up. In that new gameplay video they actually made the Lakers play the pick and roll sort of bad. Like this video in real life they are not good at defending the pick and roll. Watch the first play at 1:40 on the youtube video, Lakers are out of position if Ronnie would have made one extra pass it would have been Shumpert open. So this could be something that is implemented on purpose to make good teams good on defense and bad teams not so good.
So nothing fixed from 2k13 for Association and Still have to use Default Rosters for On-Line Associations. Maybe I was imaging things but a TON of guys Declared for Free Agency in 2k13. I have to say I am BEYOND Frustrated with 2k. I have Posted, PMd, and Tweeted the Last 2 1/2 years with ISSUES and BEEN IGNORED and ISSUES STILL EXIST. If you cant FIX them have the COURTESY to say "Hey OUR GAME IS UNFIXABLE in THOSE AREAS, SAVE YOUR BREATHE" How difficult would that response be to type out. It is NOT like it has just been me mentioning the Issues, EVERYONE who mentions an issue with Association Mode(SERIOUS ISSUES) is Ignored. I bet if we asked to get some of the Duck Dynasty Guys on the Celebrity team, maybe we would get some type of response. LOL. It is a shame to see how the TRUE basketball Game MODE just gets put on the back burner AGAIN for 2k14.
I feel like VTCRB is going to have a heart attack when it comes to Association. Kidding aside I'm disappointed with the lack of attention that the Association mode has gotten over the past few years. As a primarily offline Association/Franchise gamer I am not happy. I'm sure 2k will put out a fine product but they really need to address some of the key issues involving Association mode.
