NBA 2K14 News Post


As most of you are aware, 2K Sports has selected their 2K Team-Up participants. Here is a list of all of them.Quite a few of them have accounts here at OS and some of them wrote NBA 2K13 hands-on impression articles for us last year, after the event. Most of them have confirmed to me that they will be doing the same for us this year. So, this is where you come in.

The 2K Team-Up guys have their own list of questions they are going to ask the developers, but what are the fixes and tweaks you would like to see in terms of gameplay for NBA 2K14? Please be as detailed as possible, to be sure your question will be asked.

This. Should of been the first priority for the dev team this year considering it is NOT a hard feature to fix compared to graphics and gameplay, yet it adds so much more to association.

1. Change steal to a button other than the shoot button
The amount of times I've stolen the ball and not instantly realised I've knocked it loose, and my player had thrown the ball from the other side of the court because square is both steal and shoot. Here's an idea - map steal to Circle and take charge to Square.

2. Deepen Total Sim Control, and make it more noticeable.
I just can't tell if this is a placebo feature or not. If I make someone the first option on offence, he sure as hell should be the leading scorer on his team. Flesh it out with further options. You could even integrate the broken coach profiles into it

3. Speaking of coach profiles, the ones like Size - Speed, Forwards - Guards etc need to either be described in full what they influence or removed because I just can't see what they effect

4. Fix the run plays slider

5. Make association records more true to life - I shouldnt be mid season with more than half the league at or around .500 and stacked teams like the clippers and Knicks sitting at something like 10-25

6. Just plain spend more time on association. It's been needing an overhaul for years. Games like live '06 on onwards had a lot of useful gm/scouting/FA/trade mechanisms that would be simple to recreate and use effectively

7. Update player personalities ie: loyalty, play for contender etc
Add different types as well. I can think of in addition to the 3 existing:
Play for contender: existing
Loyalty: existing
Money: existing
Playing time:
Play for good coach:
Play in big market:
Etc etc

8. Similar to live 10. Make it so you can set a teams season goal from: Rebuilding, Contending, Playoff push, etc

9. Hopefully, full dleague integration and correct CBA rules and exceptions.

10. Include things like S&Ts, contract buyout dates, guaranteed vs non guaranteed contracts. 10 day contracts that actually work, and those players stats are recorded as games played unlike this year. Players sitting in free agency should be more willing to accept a 10 day contract for certain teams...you can barely even offer a guy like Damion James a 10 day contract because even though he's rated about 66 ovr and not sitting on a roster currently, because of his age and potential and wants $4m a year.

11. Sim stats need to be looked at critically....no way does chris Paul average only 5 assists a game with the team he has now.
Blocks, assists and rebounds really need to be addressed

Edit:

12: on a lesser note, I want to actually see the team and player records section of association updated to reflect the last 3 years. It seems it hasn't been touched since 2k11 for example: in the 2011 playoffs, Jason Terry tied the NBA record for most three in a playoff game with 9. Now, he shouldn't override the previous occupant, but on the Dallas Mavicks single playoff game slide, he should be the Mavs' record holder for that stat. Also Nik Vucevic's overtaking Shaq for Orlandos most rebounds

13: if you're going to allow us to start the season half way through the season with real life stats, things like season highs should be shown instead of not at all. If this is an easy fix it should be implemented. Eg: it shows Nikola Vucevic's 29 rebounds in his recent games slide, but in season high it is whatever then next simmed or user played game high is. Kinda deflates an awesome performance if a) you can't reflect on it, and b) no way can you replicated 29 boards in 2k basketball.

14: since I'm such a stat whore, I understand if CAP players, or hidden players later added to the roster can't have their real life season stats applied to them, but maybe somehow make it so for example, if Alan Anderson is added to the roster after tye game releases, his real life statistics should be attached to his name, and perhaps his birth date (ie: data that is concrete and can't be altered in game).
That way, stats are mapped to each respective player, regardless of how they are put in the game.
There is little excuse why guys like Prigioni, Copeland, Anderson, M. James, G. temple couldn't have had their stats reflected in 2k13 if the game had recognised their name and a second data set to apply stats to.

It just makes association more realistic when you can jump in halfway and 99% of the stats you want to see are there. I can excuse user added CAPs, but 2ks added players should also have this functionality

I can see why they don't include a lot of the technical CBA contractual exceptions and stuff like that: for the casual player it's a bit jarring to have to micromanage all this stuff that some 12 year old kid doesn't understand.

That said, if they really care, they could make a "sim" association mode, and have the current dumbed down mode available to play alongside season mode.

Need to fix the passing lanes in this game. Passing is nowhere near it's real life counterpart. Especially on the perimeter. Also strength needs to come into play more, if I am using a guy like Carmelo, LeBron, or Muscle Chestbrook and I am guarded by a guy that I am heavier than and stronger than, I should be able to dominate him in the post and on the drive. It seems like there is way too much resistance from weaker guys on drives and post ups.

Don't have the CPU take a timeout after the first stoppage in the game after your my player gets on the court after being on bench.

That's kinda messed up what has youtube became. Every big company invites youtubers and use them to market their game. I doubt this kind of things will last forever.

The worst of them beeing activision definately. What I hate about this is that some of theses guys just promote the game. They put their voice, and they don't warn their audience that they are basically doing commercials and helping company to sell the games. Theses kids are kinda hostages of all this.

Player movement

Are the player movement animations quicker/more responsive? Or do you still feel held back at times by the animations? Is player movement more precise and do you feel like you have more control or is there still what feels like sliding/skating/floating on the court?


Defensive animation delay examples: Simply trying to turn around, close out on shooters, or in the defensive stance trying to keep up with another human ball handler dribbling back and forth can be very challenging due to the delayed/sluggish animations.


Bumping animations without the ball was it toned down? I felt like I was literally in a bumper car in 2k13 with all the annoying bumping animations that held you back from simply moving or jumping inside the paint at times.

Have the contact/collision physics and animations on defense been improved a lot more?


On dunks, up 'n' unders, and other combo moves, does defensive positioning matter this year or are you still slid, pushed, moved back just so the dunk or move can complete?


On occasion can a great shot blocker actually block a dunk with his hands?


On-ball defense are the contact animations still there were your defender will sometimes slip and fall to the ground allowing the ball handler to pass?


Do ball handlers warp by your on-ball defender still at times?


What about when you run into the ball handler inside the paint from the side/back does your defender still sometimes do that animation where he puts his arm against his chest as if he just had a heart attack and stops dead in their tracks?


What about on defensive contact inside the paint on layups and other moves in the air are defenders forced sometimes into animations where the defenders body goes completely limp and you can't move for a couple seconds afterwards?


Are ball handlers still able to recklessly turbo and keep ramming into on-ball defender without at least picking up their dribble or lossing the ball more?


Passing


Is there still excessive bobbling of catches to open cutters or players standing wide open?


Do receivers still sometimes get slid further back or get pulled farther away from the basket unrealisticly?


Is the ball thrown behind the cutting receiver still too much?


Is passing logic any better? For instance most passes thrown into the paint are bounce passes even if there is heavy traffic leading to turnovers/kicked balls.


Are full court passes over defenders heads still completed too much?


Is passing speed increased any more or are there still too many floaty passes?


Rebounding



When trying to boxout is your players movements more precise? In 2k13 I felt like I was floating/sliding too much when trying to boxout.


Does the CPU boxout any better and actually jump when they should for rebounds?


Does it look and feel like players can actually grab rebounds any better without so much unnecessary tipping at times and balls going off hands or other body parts?


Are there still kicked balls when going for rebounds?


Are players more aware of loose balls and able to go after the ball any better?


CPU A.I. Movements and Spacing


Is the A.I. Movements on the court more logical and intelligent? In 2k13 the A.I. made a lot of unnecessary cuts and movements which led to them just getting in your way or clogging up the paint.


Do CPU off-ball defenders still get stuck or glued to their man too much and unable to react quickly to ball handlers going inside the paint?


Are CPU defenders still able to close out unrealisticly too fast on the perimiter on catch and shoots?


Rewarding good decision making/skill more


In 2k13 the goal was to make the game more accessible both on offense and defense – promoting over dribbling and rewarding too many bad shot selections (contested and fadeaway shots especially when combined with signature skills is rewarded just as much as someone taking wide open shots). Pretty frustrating on defense when you don't feel like your being rewarded enough for playing great defense. Has any of this been improved in 2k14, so that bad decision making & shots is actually punished more or is the game continuing its trend of being casual friendly?


On defense with the addition of auto-contest people can contest and block shots automatically without even timing their jumps. On defense has the auto-contest been toned down or taken out, so that people have to actually time their jumps themselves to play better defensively?


Misc


Has blocks on pump fakes been removed?


Has the following gimmicky/arcade features introduced in 2k13 either been toned down or removed?

I would also like to know if CPU ball handlers still pass out of shots in the paint excessively and successfully under heavy defensive pressure?

Its so annoying having the cpu go up for a shot in the paint and your ready to defend/block it only for them to pass it out to someone at the last second.
