NBA Live 14 News Post

EA Sports has posted an NBA Live 14 blog detailing BounceTek, their dribbling mechanic. The videos show that they have eliminated some of the flaws seen in the dribbling animations that were seen in NBA Live 10. They are looking to squash all of the canned animations and bring you more responsiveness.

Quote:
  • The dev team recaptured all of our dribble animations in order to give players the responsiveness they were looking for.
  • Our technology allows us to ensure that movement is as fluid as it should be in order to deliver authentic gameplay.
  • Our dribbling has something called "Authentic Responsiveness," which means the ball is controllable when it touches the player’s hands, ensuring that control is responsive when it should be and unresponsive when it should be. While that sounds counterintuitive, it's important to create the depth required in a top-notch dribbling system.
  • Depth is created through decision-making and risk-reward options that forces users to think about what they want to do with the ball in their hands.

NBA Live 14 will only release for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles, later this year.

Check out the blog and let us know what you think of BounceTek.

If they buy copy of 2k13, they can use it in they're blogs just like anyone else i believe

Not sure if anyone mentioned this but when MLB the show gave the ball physics, it made it so much better. The ball with its own physics is great for a game.

There was not all this hate for the show when they announced physics for the baseball, granted, EA has sunk the ship on NBA live for a while. We'll see.

Also improvements in ball warping could have an effect in rebounding , blocked shots, lose balls.

Last thing I'll say for the EA folks reading this - I PREORDERED this game with my PS4. Don't let me down ;-)

Going to wait on the physics engine blog...I really like how NCAA plays with the physics engine and that alone gets my hopes up for this game...

If they implement this correctly then 2k will take notice and they will finally take a look at some actual player physics...

I'm happy that there's competition!

Physics really hurts the 2k series. It's about the only major thing I hate about 2k. I don't think EA can match 2k in "player likeness" just yet but who knows

No they would have to get permission from 2k to use footage or pics of their game. Believe it or not its technically copyright infringement to post gameplay vids on YouTube without consent.

No its separating the ball from the ball handler. Making everything dynamic and physics based from a dribbling standpoint.

I thought the blog was informative. I would have liked to have seen a player loosing his dribble to further demonstrate that indeed the ball and the player are separate.
While i agree, if you notice... every time the player dribbles the ball there is a calculation in red that shows where the ball's projected path
since the player is in control of the ball...it resets every time he dribbles
Not sure what the green arc was tho, saw that for a split second.

Don't really care much for it seeing that its EA.

They talked about the same stuff last year.

Hope they'll be able to prove me wrong though.

If Rosé can come back so can NBA LIVE.

To be fair, and im trying to be...I'll wait until defenders are present until I pass judgement.

Oden might be the best comparison since he was out multiple years.

It didn't look right. .
Good catch! It was hard for me to see at first but it seems like the direction change caused an issue with the "dribble hand release" and it released the ball to physics too early.

It really bothers me when they miss things like that, especially for a marketing video. I hope that separating the ball from the hand didn't cost more resource/development time than just deeply optimizing the animations and response/break points. Otherwise we may be in for a few more of those miscues.
