Ah, there is the real news. Not that there is a code in every box that can possibly be blocked later or cause you a ton of hassle to get the deal, but EA saying you will definitely get access. That is what everyone has been dying to know, not just that there is a code.

I went ahead and preordered this, I have never preordered a game through Amazon, but i assume I can cancel the order between now and release if these terms change?

From EASports.com FAQ its about as clear as can be:

No, it is not necessary to have a DIRECTV subscription. Each Anniversary Edition a special code for eligible gamers giving them the opportunity to unlock a special, 2013 regular season (17 weeks) trial of NFL Sunday Ticket on computer, tablet and mobile devices.

^^There you have it folks, there should be no more questions about "I live where I can get Directv but don't want it, do I have to get it?" Answer is no. Digital will work for everyone.

You have to read it properly. It says that "eligible gamers" likely those who cannot get Direct TV will be able to get the streaming package instead. It is worded in such a way that they could go any direction with it. You will still likely have to check a box online that says you cannot get DirectTV,but the point is no one knows. You could be required to enter a credit card and to call and cancel your subscription before you are auto billed next year and you may have to endure a ton of DirectTV marketing and maybe even a business house call to try to sell you on the service.

No details have been provided. All we know is that "eligible gamers" can get the streaming service without signing up for DirectTV. It's likely just legalese because of DirectTVs contract with the NFL but no one knows because we do not know exactly what an eligible gamer is in this context. Is it extremely likely everyone will be able to get it just by jumping through a couple hoops? Yes, but EA is not clarifying the issue and no one can know for sure.

In any case just pre-order it on Amazon and if more details come out you can just cancel it. However, it is likely no one will know for sure how this works until after it has shipped. None of us know with complete certainty we are getting free streaming Sunday Ticket. For me, it was worth the price because you get 17 card packs for free with it anyway but it's worth a $40 gamble anyway.

I'm sure We are reading way too much into it. The president of EA has come out and point blankly said you do not need DirecTV in order to get the Sunday Ticket deal.

Exactly. How many times do they have to explain that you dont need to sign up to get it digitally? 10? 50? 100? Theyve stated multiple times you dont need to switch to dtv if you can, dtv just wants you to. Here are the options.

1 - If you're not a directv subscriber you get a season of Sunday ticket on your computer/phone/tablet. Nowhere else. Not on your Xbox, not on your PS3, nowhere else. It does not lock you into a 2nd year of service.

2 - if you are a subscriber to Directv *AND* already pay for Sunday Ticket basic, this will upgrade you to the next level of service that adds access on computers/phones/tablets.

3 - if you are a subscriber to Directv but do *NOT* want to pay for Sunday Ticket, this code will allow you access to ST on computers/phone/tablets only.

4 - If you are not a subscriber to Directv but want to be, this code will give you 10 dollars a month off your basic Directv service *AND* a year of Sunday Ticket for free, which is viewable on your TV. This option requires a 2 year commitment to Directv, but *NOT* a 2 year commitment to Sunday Ticket.

Hate to be negative Ned here, but nothing is ever free. Your just paying an extra $40 for a code that's basically a trial period. That hopefully will get you to change tv providers. Don't get me wrong it's a great deal and more power to the guys that do it, but I'm not getting sucked into this. If Time Warner didn't have the NFL Network and Redzone channel...then maybe I'd think about it.

um you also get 100 dollers worth of mut cards with this deal so it's pretty much a 400 doller value for 40 dollers more a die hard madden fan and die hard nfl fan would be dumb NOT to order this package.

So I pre ordered. Cant get directtv at my house. Hope ea will clear up before release or guarantee that everybody who pre orders at amazon will get the season ticket or will only 50.000 ps3 users and 50.000 xbox users get it and the code inside will give you 10 dollars of each month and gives you a chance to be one of 50.000 who will get one year for free. Cause if thats the case I will cancel my pre order. Dont really care much for mut. Only play it till the week 1 roster drops

You can already stream games on the internet through various p2p forums so I really don't see what the advantage to doing this is. It might be worth it if you were thinking of getting Directv anyway, but as I said previously they gave away Sunday Ticket to new subscribers last year for nothing. This is clearly just an advertising ploy for Directv to get people who are buying Madden to switch to Directv. No thanks for me.

Umm, I would gladly pay an extra $40 to get all Falcons games in HD on my computer rather then watching them in garbage quality on firstrow. Not to mention, my computer will be hooked up to my TV so it will be like having regular Sunday Ticket

Ea has confermed that everyone that gets this version will get a code that can be used for the computer/mobile version of nfl sunday ticket no matter if you can or can't get direct tv service. You will not even have to sign up with DTV for this offer.

Where are you getting that the stream would be in HD? I didn't see that anywhere, and most streams that these companies provide are typically not in HD.

A) This is legal
and B) It'll work on iPhone and iPads

as far as i know most of those P2P sites are flash based.

I just called DirecTV and they said they pretty much have no idea if you will be able to access it if you could receive Directv but dont want the promo code, you want the digital code instead. The guy was kind of a snob. He says, "Sir, I'm not aware of any deals that would be able to have non-Directv customers access NFL sunday ticket, let alone a video game company." Anyway I told him to search online and he saw it and said sir I have no idea, let me talk to my supervisor, and after 5 minutes he came back and said his supervisor said there has been one other instance of this and that there is some deal where some lady typed in her access code on XBox and it worked. Which made no sense because the codes arent out yet and its the middle of May. So if you are going to call Directv looking for answers, they wont have any.

The DirecTV website says that regular NFL Sunday Ticket and NFL Sunday Ticket Maxx both show all games in HD, but only the Maxx is for computers, tablets, etc. So, I'm just assuming since regular Sunday Ticket has all games in HD then they would be HD on computers and tablets as well.

Just an assumption though, not positive. But, I'm sure that it would still be better quality then p2p websites.
