I'd have to disagree with that. They may come over and touch the ball with their bare hand or attempt to field it with their glove, but that animation is terrible and it happens way too often. How often to players really try to knock the ball into the dugout with their glove? I honestly can't recall that happening in a game. All they need to do is touch it. I see it typically with their barehand though, but its much more ******ly than whats in the game now.

Maybe they could just change it to this animation

I have to agree with Knight, I see it often enough that it doesnt look out of place to me, I do see it happening often in the game and see it in real life, I thought it was a great add when I first saw it.

I can't find video of it.....but I know D Wright does it quite often on balls that are just barely foul and rolling.
I think if you attempt to pick it up and it falls in fair territory...fair ball, right?
I don't believe just touching it makes it foul either. I'm fairly certain it must stop and be called foul or pass third foul.

I wasn't really speaking of the frequency of the play either...just the fact that I know that I see it in the MLB.
It might be slightly overdone in the game...but it's better than no animation as it was before.

It does happen, it happens a lot. But the players dont all swipe at the ball with that amount of effort with their glove hand like that. It looks comical since it happens on any ball close to the line but foul. If it happened once in a while that's fine, but its on every play it seems. I'm trying to recall a time when I saw a player swipe at it like that, but I honestly can't. I can however recall a lot of times where a player simply grabbed the ball with their barehand when it went foul, picked it up with their glove or even pushing it a bit with their glove/hand. But not hitting the ball with their glove with such authority as the game shows it.

That is my point though. Its the animation, not the play. The animation in the game is so exaggerated. I want to see the play in the game, it makes a lot of sense.

As soon as the ball is touched in foul territory it is foul. As soon as its touched in fair territory its fair. That is why players will watch bunts down the line to see if goes foul, then quickly grab it with their bare hand. If the ball comes to a complete stop it is also judged fair/foul based on that. The ball can technically go foul then fair an infinite number of times. Until it stops or is touched it is in play.

Before the bases its where the ball is touched. i saw AJ Pryzenski do exactly what the other posted said never happens, he swipped at it so hard the commentators responded by say something like "Wow he swiped at that thing really hard as if he was anger"

Ive seen it enough to know its a "thing" a little thing but there is a thread to point those out...

Actually just touching it in foul is enough... The play you're thinking of is when the ball is in fair territory and the fielder waits for it to roll foul before the ball stops moving. The second the ball rolls foul in that scenario the fielder will grab it.

The animation is running so fast when the outfielders field the ball that it looks awkward the way they throw the ball most the time in my honest opinion .

I actually think these were worked on this year.
Nem would be able to answer that one better.

Me too. It made the top 10 on the 'look-into' list I brought to CD.

Some of those quick cuts were attached to certain presentation sections. I'm not saying it's 100% that they got them all, but as far as I could tell the issue was resolved before I left SD.

Speaking of my 'look-into' list....

GIDP's were on their too! LOL!

The CPU vs. CPU stats Brian_SCEA shared with us reflected a nearly dead on GIDP rate. Considering this usually is a good indication as to what players that actually play will generally experience; I'd say for the most part, this issue should be resolved in MLB 13.

This was brought to the Devs attention before we left CD. If it can get in safely, and in enough time before launch, it will. But no promises. They are aware of it. I'll be sure to add it to the wishlist for next year if it doesn't.

Been hoping for this for a while now. I think a lot of others have posted about it in the past as well. Would make the game feel even more like a broadcast if you could turn off the pitch callout, but still get the MPH feedback.

Player models look absolutely incredible, Pagan, Blanco, Brandon Crawford, Kemp, Posey all have new cyberfaces! Game graphics, animations, presentation, I will get it for both the Vita and PS3. Thanks SCEA, thanks Ramone Russell, thanks to the entire OS community.
