NASCAR The Game: Inside Line News Post

The highly anticipated patch for NASCAR The Game: Inside Line is expected to arrive later this month, according to this thread at the official website. All of the details on the patch are listed below.

Quote:
Below is a list of bugs and feature enhancements that have been fixed / added to the soon to be released update. Sorry it's taken longer than we would have liked but as you can see from the details below, we've addressed the majority of issues that have really been affecting the user experience. Subject to final Q/A sign off, we expect this to go to Sony and MS week beginning the 10th December. Once it's approved, which could take a couple of weeks, it will be deployed.

Online:
  • Xbox, a player can be put into a lobby where NATs conflict meaning they will be kicked when the counter reaches zero.
  • If someone is dropped when in the Infield Garage, the rolling starts are broken.
  • Matchmaking puts the player into a lobby when a game is already in progress.
  • After a caution / quick caution, players can be dropped from the game.
  • If a player DNF’s and then a caution is called, players separate into different lobbies.
  • Infrequently the player appears to have hit a car in front even though they are not touching.
  • Sometimes laps go out of sync when compared with other players in the game.
  • On the Caution Summary, the number plate becomes mixed up if a player leaves the game.
  • On the Garage Overview screens, the number plates are not listed correctly.
  • If the host is in any position other than first, they will take off and leave the pack in both SF and DF rolling starts after a caution.
  • When the Quick Caution screen appears, all players seem to have 80% “health”.
  • When the Quick Caution screen appears for the second time, wedge cannot be adjusted.
  • When reviewing the online race results, players who DNF’d aren't displayed.
  • When joining a race in progress, only the host’s progress i.e. Racing Lap X is displayed.
  • Sometimes cautions don’t appear to be called.
  • Often 3 laps are run in a GWC.
  • At the end of a practice session, the Overview appears different on numerous players consoles.
  • A player car number doesn't show up in the lobby interface when joining a game in progress until that player finishes racing and returns to the lobby.
  • When joining a session in progress and once the race is completed, a Race Over counter begins. This sequence breaks with around 10 seconds left.
  • During the rolling start sequence a car can appeared ghosted.
  • The session over times aren't in sync.
  • Invalid laps from the Road Courses can be seen by others even though dashes are seen by the offending player on their overview screen (Qualifying).
  • The overview screen can remain on during gameplay.

Offline / Possibly Online:
  • Cautions are called when the player is on the apron around the start of the pit road zone.
  • The CSR wheel depresses both the accelerator and clutch at the same time.
  • Setups do not save correctly.
  • One of the player cars disappear during the split screen rolling start and reappears when crossing the start line.
  • The player can get inaccurate lap times, normally very small.
  • A.I. cause cautions when leaving pit road under green flag conditions.
  • The player position indicator is missing on the single file caution sequence.
  • A.I. appear to have problems with pit strategy, pitting the lap after a Caution or most of the field coming in on the same lap under green.
  • A.I. general over taking and passing of lapped cars has been improved.
  • A.I. "brake checking" on certain tracks has been improved.
  • During a pit stop changing the wedge, returning to do another stop, the wedge has changed.
  • Richmond and possibly other tracks, some AI drivers change their paint scheme between practice and the race.
  • DNF’ing because of damage or fuel doesn't update the race stats, it should.
  • Adding a splash of gas would add a full can.
  • The positions made / lost on the Caution Summary screen is often wrong even though the players are in the correct position.
  • Roof flaps don’t deploy during replays.
  • When receiving an message that a sponsor is interested, qualify 10th or better in the next 2 races, doesn't work.
  • If the car is fatally damaged and on fire and rolls across the finish line in 1st place, it the burnout sequence and Victory Road the car remains on fire.
  • If you run out of gas but win the race, you can’t go forwards during the burn out but you can reverse?
  • During the single file caution state when others are pitting but not the player, the wrong way text or the ahead / behind indicator can appear under the text.
  • Paint Booth, colors are added to the recent colors list even if they are in there already.
  • The spotter stops talking when turning off the proximity indicator.
  • Only the first 4 photo’s show up on the loading screen.

Re-Balance / Enhancement:
  • Added black flags (only) to the flag rules in Choose a Race and Private Race.
  • Increase the chance of a new primary sponsor offer being made.
  • In Season mode, change the paint scheme of the player car to the scheme that ran at the appropriate race if we have it, otherwise default to the one the player chose at the start.
  • The tire temp indicator shows blue at too high a temp.
  • Change the tire wear indicator to a non linear scale to match the drop off.
  • Re-balanced the road course penalty system.
  • When creating a new setup the default values should be based on the preset race set up for that track.
  • Re-balance how much the tires wear on various tracks.
  • The car now overheats quicker.
  • During the single file caution state, the player can use all camera functions.
  • Right stick can be defined to accelerate / brake.
  • Time to give a position back on the plate tracks increased to 10 seconds.
  • Default Dead Zone setting for wheels should be 5%.
  • When using a wheel, the steer assist should be used so that when full the wheel doesn't have any stagger effect.
  • Mechanical damage has been made more consistent.
  • A.I. cars can be turned easier by the player.
  • Reviewed performance of wheels in the game and enhanced.
  • Improved the stagger between cars during riling (believe Dave meant 'rolling' -Dan) starts.

Oh man... that just sounds fantastic!!!! Can't wait to get this one, it's going to make this game pretty special by the sounds of it. Hope they get the online issues sorted out for those who play it. It sounds like the offline racing should get even better than it already is, which is pretty darn great already.

Glad to hear that, and the frequency of primary sponsor updates in career are being addressed too!!

Wish it still wasn't over 2 weeks away!

If this works out, this game will be up there for me with F1, could get to a 9.0 from 6.5.

As someone who WANTS to buy the game but is hesitant, those changes look pretty definitive. Hoping it all works well for those with the game already. I'll be watching impressions closely!

as i recall correctly last year, the patch seemed to keep getting delayed or problems kept coming up which took it longer to come out...sure hope that's not the case this year and it will be out around christmas....havent played since release day waiting for this patch...so im pretty excited

Steve_OS....thanks for 'officializing' my post

seeing words like "possibly" and "improved" instead of "fixed" constantly popping up in the notes kind of scares me considering Eutechnyx's track record, but I remain hopeful.

Posted today by Dave at Eutechnyx from the patch thread at their forum:

"Since late last week, the patch has been with Activision Q/A for extensive testing to ensure that it not only meets with the requirements of Sony and Microsoft but that all of the fixes have been validated and no new issues have been introduced.

Yesterday, around 6 issues we're flagged as been present varying for new problems to a couple of bugs which would have meant Sony and Microsoft wouldn't have approved the patch. We expect to have the issues resolved today and then a full test sweep will begin again over at Activision.

We know this news if far from ideal, however I'm sure you'll appreciated the lengths we are going to to ensure that all the above fixes work and no new issues are introduced. As soon as the patch is submitted, I'll publish an update here.

We really appreciate your patience, thank you."

I was expecting at least on minor setback in this process, but there is still a snowball's chance in hell this patch gets to us before the New Year.

Realistically, I'm thinking by the first or second week of January.

Im ok with a little bit of delay, as long as they get it right. Many companies rush a patch and either not completely fix what they set out to fix, or fix one thing only to break another. Im 100% on board with them fully testing the patch and making sure its done right.

I think most people would be ok waiting a little while for the patch if they get it right, but the problem is last year we waited months for the patch and it didn't fix things.

I like the game to a point. I say this with all due respect to the people who made it. I can't program so who am I to say what can and can't be done. I do give leeway being only the second release in the Nascar foray. Saying that, here are the issues I have.

Both in this years and last years, green flag pit stops are a guaranteed yellow flag. It seems like something that would have been found in testing. I feel they work too much on the graphics of the garage and extra game styles instead of focusing on the racing part of the game. I would be more than happy to have a so-so main menu and have the racing top-knotch. Not saying that the racing is over all badly done. They did a hell of a job with the graphics on the actually racing. Very realistic.

Along the lines of the green pit stop yellows are the wrecks you are involved in. They cut way too short. If I am spinning in the infield, should have a chance to save it from either hitting the wall or sliding up the track. The wrecks need to finish themselves before the cut to caution. Not saying that so I can see more carnage, I am saying that because there is a chance of other cars getting involved or being able to dodge the wreck as it is happening. Give the option to go to yellow if players choose to, but leave the wreck go until the last car stops spinning, flipping, etc.

Here is a wish list: give each driver ratings that you can see being implemented during the race. For example, Kurt Busch. I want to see him drive like a crazy by cutting people off, getting them loose in a turn, etc. Have some drivers blow engines more than others due to their driving style. Another example is Harry Gant form back in the day. The guy was a whiz at fuel economy. Have ratings for pit crew. Say one tire changer is faster than another. A Crew chief may make a drivers engine give more hp, but handling might go down. Have crew chiefs able to suggest changes during the race. It might not always be the correct change and make the chances of having bad/good changes dependent on a rating. Make it like other sport games that have Franchise mode. Let you be the owner of the team. Hire and fire who you want. Hire a driver if you don't want to drive. I play the Franchise mode in every sport game I play. I love having to hire/fire within a budget and having other teams get better or worse year to year. Just like real life, the more you win, the more you can spend. This would also have drivers, pit crewman changing teams. Wow, kind of went off on a rant. Sorry. Do not mean any of this in a negative light. Just stating my issues and "dreams" (for lack of a better word). Wish all well. Looking forward to the patch.

I agree with you on some things, but green flag stops don't mean cautions are gonna come out. It seems like it, but I have had several races go caution free. I don't think the cautions cut off to soon either, well once in a while, but usually if it is a big wreck it plays through.

One thing I wish they would do is stop worrying about all the extra crap in games, not just this game but other games as well. I'm talking about like replaying past races and unlocking tokens that do nothing for you. Maybe if they would do things like that then they could do the things you suggest, which I agree with, that would be awesome, but they spend to much time on the other crap.I know some people like it and they play through it, but imagine what the game could be if they didn't worry about that stuff.

Like Madden moments in Madden, which I don't even know if they have anymore, but if you did away with that and used that time towards franchise mode, or online play, or team builder, which 99% of the people buy it for anyways, imagine the kind of game that could be.

I agree the green pit stops don't mean yellow. just happened in the last 3 races to me. Guess I didn't "get over it" before I posted. haha. Your point of getting rid of the extras is what I was getting at. Have the other modes as dlc. I also agree it's not just this game. Every sports game has to add some "new" special mode that is just ok at best. Seems companies making sports games feel every year they have to add something "new and innovative" (ie. catching mode in The Show). I agree each release should be better than the last, but make the gameplay better. Add something to the Franchise mode. And for the love of Jebus, please omit anything that has to do with Kinect. Not in this game, but it is just a gimmicky thing like the Wii. Fun for somethings, but very few things.

Cheers.

another quick note:

We don't need a new game every year. Take 2 years to complete on hell of a game instead of a good game that feels like just updated rosters. This too is for all sports games. I would be willing to pay $5-$10 bucks each year for updated rosters, but $60 bucks for what is pretty much the same game is getting really old.

That why they are not releasing a game next year and I am a huge fan also of that approach. Happily pay for the DLC they are going to drop before next season.

Well, don't leave us hanging. What's this "DLC" you speak of?

Probably the update to the new 2013 cars, you know, because they're kind of a big deal .
