Yeah, it's called a 'soft reveal'. IMO a very poor choice in how to handle the situation when they know they're on the last thread of trust with most bball gamers. Don't try to cover up, misdirect and lie about it at this point.

I highly doubt this was released by EA. Unless their game looks awesome and plays awesome and they just wanted to show this one first, get a bunch of negative comments, tell us it's months old, then release the real version and turn us all around. I doubt that.

at this point i wouldnt be surprised if the gameplay video was secretly released by EA's "unofficial channels"

Why would they want to release something that looked like this? Unless they want to do what I suggested in my previous post but that just sounds like dumb marketing and EA has a pretty good marketing department.

The reason why we haven't heard much since E3 is because of that fact; they have a good marketing department.

Seems like a classic soft reveal. After months of silence EA accidentally "leaked" this footage, oopsie-wink-wink, to test the waters and see the public reaction to a game they most likely had strong reservations about.

If the reaction is negative they can claim it's not an official PR release, is old, is not representative of the game, etc. They played the same early-build card with Elite. We all knew those videos were of a final build. No developer ever releases a pre-alpha video only a few weeks before final submission of the final game.

This is the same company who thought Elite was ready to be released, if it was not for the backlash about the demo it would have been, even after all the negative comments developers were still defending the game and were shocked by all the negative comments, this could be just more of the same.

You give them too much credit. (for their marketing)

but any ways I agree, I doubt that this was a calculated leak. As at the beginning of the video you can see an xbox 360 notification pop up on the screen. No company would purposely leak something like that. Im glad it was leaked tho. Now we can move on.

If they really did leak it willingly then there is no hope.

Seems plausible, but considering what 2K has put out, with the Gamescom videos and screenshots, EA should've internally known and seen that it wasn't up to par so there would be no reason for them to "test the waters". If I made an inferior version of the Mona Lisa I would see and know it was inferior and not show it to anyone.

There are a few things in the video that's for the assumption that's it's an early build;

1. the camera doesn't pan the whole way to the right (you can't see a player in the corner even though the ESPN graphics are fully centered the whole time)

2. The menu is veeery basic. There'd be much more info in a build two months from release.

3. After the cool ESPN intro; when the two teams logos come toward the screen to dissappear, the Thunder's top of the 3d logo sticks for a second at the bottom of the screen. That tells me they've just put the graphics in to test how it would all come together.

4. Player movement animations are jerky. Not at all in line with what finished animations would look like.

EA shot themselves in the foot if this is actually early footage that was leaked. They could have released carefully edited videos that got people excited and tricked bunches of people into buying Live.

Now the bad impression this video has left has done irreversible damage. You can't polish a turd once everyone thinks the game is a total joke, just one month before release.

They should make this a free download if you buy season ticket.

Live hasn't been up to par for over a half decade; hence the collapse in sales and cancellation of the product. They needed to test the waters to IMO gauge whether a discounted/download only delivery or suspension of the game is in order.

Live's animations have been jerky this entire gen. You really think a pre-alpha build has all playable teams, dynasty mode, full quarters, server connection, full menus, full commentary, intros, etc. C'mon man...

Not saying they did leak it, but like others have said, this is EA we are talking about. Im sure they thought Elite was better than 2K's entire catalog. NBA LIVE 10 was probably their best best reviewed next-gen console game(wasnt hard for them to top 06-09), and instead of working from that, they went and started all over from scratch. If it wasnt for all the bad feedback from the Elite demo, they would have released that trash.

Imo opinion they would've been smarter if they had done something similiar to 2K's developer insights. The promo videos with interviews and devs talking about Elite 11 had me interested in the game. They succeeded in creating interest. Here, coming out of nowhere just posting a random 11 minute gameplay video with no other marketing whatsoever tells me this was not intended nor official.

What I think this was was the recording of a quarter for the purpose of selecting clips/screenshots and such to use for a future marketing ploy.
The video, as is, was NOT intended to be released this raw.

That's what I think at least.

Am I the only one here who thinks the Live games have been more fun that the 2K games? All this hate is off-putting, and doesn't change the fact that I enjoyed playing Live more. I'm not saying this game is great - I just want to know why it finds such a wall of hate and 2K gets so much love - while it is a lot more polished, it still has flaws (passing).

passing was fixed bro, check out 2k team up reviews..... unlike live community guys who have seen the game and havent given any, any feedback on what they seen, that was the whole reason they went doen and the whole reason the even was set up, look around this thread through all 50+ pages, not one of those guys showed up and responded, i know they seen this video, and probably has been reading these comments, but yet we see why they are silent as well as EA!

For sure, I thought I was looking at 2K7 with better graphics. This game is still 3-5 years behind 2K13. With EA's money maybe they can come close to 2K in about 2-3 years.
