The presentation after the whistle looked pretty good when the guys finally let it play out instead of mashing the buttons to get through it

Looks awesome. The game looks so much better, the real time presentation was a long time coming. I can get over the magnet puck, because I love the new skating, looks very real.

Still disappointed in the goal celebrations. It just zooms in on the goal scorer, then a couple individual players, then the high five line. I don't get why the group hug is not part of the goal celebration, come on EA, how do you not recognize that this has to be in the game

Hopefully they were playing on default sliders, and the pass reception slider works, I'd like to see a few more passes lost.

I really like how the D-men are able to poke the puck away as the opposing team is trying to cross the blue line. Any way to make it harder to gain the zone is fine by me! There is more good than bad here for sure, can't wait to play the demo, I think this is going to be one hell of a game.

Oh, and did you guys know that they spent more time on their AI this year than in the last 3 years combined???

I see Fleury still sucks.

Skating seems so fluid and natural. I love the direction that this game has take overall. I'm looking forward to playing it, the online aspects should be solid as usual.

What is the go with flower in the NHL games....As a pens fan I always play a gm run through with the penguins and I find Fleury lets in so many random goals. Just stupid arse goals and it seems to be him more then anyother player in the last few games. I have no clue why

The sad thing is, they did recognize it for one glorious year (I think it was 11?) and then it mysteriously vanished, so it's not like it hasn't been in the game before. For all the "real time presentation" stuff they put out, I would've had no problem with bringing back that old group goal celebration cutscene after the zoom in on the goal scorer...

*sigh* Oh well...

What the hell is Fleury doing on the second goal? What NHL goalie goes paddle down when the D man has the puck at the blue line? Paddle down is for pucks that are around or near the crease. For god sakes EA this is so simple. All you have to do is watch a goalie in an NHL game and see what he does. I can guarantee you that the goalie is not going paddle down when the puck is at the blue line. That's mite crap. Fleury should have been on his feet trying to look for the puck around the players in front of him. Instead he goes paddle down to try and see past the screen and where his blocker would have been, it's not there and the puck goes in. I can see this happening if the puck is at the bottom of the circles or somewhere closer but not from that far away. If he just does a simple butterfly he would have even made the save. God that is just flipping aggravating.

I would love for goalies to make mistakes during the course of a game, but this mistake should never ever happen. No goalie does what Fleury did in that situation. Especially an NHL-er. You don't move your blocker to the ice to totally expose the top corner of the net when the puck is 64 ft away from you. I hate to bash this game already when I haven't even played it but when something as dumb as this is in the game it is so easy to do it. Fixed the goalies my butt. I couldn't even watch the rest of the video after that happened.

In the flow of the game, the puck doesn't really look very "glued" to anything.

My thoughts exactly. This really bothers me for some reason. All they have to do is simply put back what they had in NHL 11.

The AI sounds promising. I just played some BAP games in 2012 and the AI away from the puck is awful. Any improvement to that will be huge.

I put my preorder in for the Stanley Cup edition. I normally wait for the demo, but I was near the store an figured that the game has been great since '08 and has never let me down Never perfect, but always a ton of fun.

Looks solid. Looking forward to the demo, I always love how NHL gives deep demo's that have some re-play ability.

No. What should happen (I've always said this) is that after a goal your teammates should all skate toward you with their hands in the air. If you want to pull a Theo Fleury and skate away from them as fast as you can and slide on the ice, you could do that too. But when your teammates get to you they should surround you and the team hug should initiate. From there it could go to a broadcast-type view. All done in real time. That's how it should be. But if its real time with the players standing their awkwardly and then them skating by the bench every single time OR a cut scene of a group hug that is different from time to time, I'll take the cut scene.

FIFA does this with a cutscene. When you score there is the manual celebration but if you wait for your players to come it goes into the cutscene of the player celebrating with his teammates. If you start running away from your team when you score, they continue to run towards you no matter what and it always ends in your teammates hugging the player and celebrating. That's exactly how NHL should be.

I believe the puck was deflected and the original shot from Pronger was going five hole, hence why Fleury had his paddle down. I'm not 100% sure and to be honest I'm not a huge hockey guru, but that's what it looks like to me.

Problem is, you don't go paddle down to block the 5 hole on a point shot. You paddle down when the puck is close and you need to cover the bottom of the net. Example would be, stopping a shot, leaving a bad rebound, you may paddle down there hoping to take away the bottom part of the net assuming the offensive guys won't have leverage to lift the puck since you dmen should be knocking their butts down.

You'll never see a goalie paddle down on point shots (except for me in my men's league, damn I am out of shape).

Once that puck went to the point, he should have reset to his feet or at the minimum, gone to standard butterfly which would have helped stop the deflected shot in a number of ways. That is not a paddle down situation. However, it is a videogame and won't be perfect so I am good with that, but it does stick out

However, I will say, and I say this as an avid 2k hockey guy (no I'm not starting a war) I am sold for the first time since 99 on my N64. I am really looking forward to this game (it'll have to split with 2k10 though I am guessing). Looking good EA.

You are correct that it was deflected but in the replay of the goal at 4:35 you can actually see Fleury go down well before the shot even comes. Fleury just goes into paddle down immediately and then waits, waits, waits, waits, and then finally Pronger shoots and it gets deflected and goes in. As Shogun said standard butterfly would have been the proper move if Fleury was going to go down to his knees. IMO though I would have liked to see Fleury try and fight through the screen and then go into standard butterfly. I mean EA did say you will now see goalies looking over players in front of them to see the puck.

Now this is just a small sample size, but if this happens often I may lose it. Goalies are just way too important to me so these things stick out like a sore thumb. The goalies have been my least favorite part to this series. They look stunning, but move and play like idiots.
