NBA 2K13 News Post

The '92 Dream Team & 2012 Olympic team will be featured in NBA 2K13. Charles Barkley is in, but Scottie Pippen couldn't get a deal worked out.

It's cool we get to battle it out between these 2 teams, but with Pippen off the roster, it puts a definite blemish on the announcement.

NBA 2K13 to Feature 2012 USA Basketball Men’s National Team and Legendary 1992 "Dream Team"

2K Sports proudly announces partnership with USA Basketball for NBA 2K13

2K Sports today announced a partnership with USA Basketball to feature both the star-studded 2012 USA Basketball Men’s National Team and the 1992 “Dream Team” in NBA 2K13, the next installment of the top-selling and top-rated NBA video game simulation franchise*.

“As executive producer, letting fans go head to head with these legendary USA teams was extremely important to JAY Z,” said Jason Argent, vice president of marketing for 2K Sports. “We are excited to partner with USA Basketball, and share in JAY Z’s enthusiasm in making this a reality in NBA 2K13.”

The 2012 USA Basketball Men’s National Team has earned recognition as one of USA Basketball’s all-time greatest teams. NBA 2K13 cover athlete Kevin Durant helped lead the USA to its successful showing and joins the elite list of accomplished basketball players who have represented USA Basketball.

“It was an incredible blessing to have been part of the 2012 USA Basketball National Team,” said Durant. “USA Basketball's National Team legacy is incredible and so many of basketball’s all-time greats have been part of it, I’m just honored to be in that group. Like everybody, I can’t wait to see how our squad stacks up against the 1992 team in NBA 2K13.”

The original “Dream Team” is widely considered the most dominant sports team ever assembled, and featured 11 Hall of Fame players including Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Clyde Drexler, Karl Malone, Chris Mullin, David Robinson and Charles Barkley.

“The experience we shared in Barcelona is truly one of the highlights of my career,” said five-time NBA MVP and former NBA 2K cover athlete Michael Jordan. “Being able to represent not only my country but basketball as a whole is an honor that I will never forget.”

“The fantasy matchup between the legendary 1992 ‘Dream Team’ and the 2012 USA Men’s national team has become one of the greatest sports debates of our time,” stated JAY Z, the Executive Producer of NBA 2K13. “In NBA 2K13, we’re giving fans the opportunity to play as two of the best teams ever assembled in sporting history, literally putting the debate right into their hands.”

Developed by Visual Concepts, a 2K Sports studio, NBA 2K13 is not yet rated by the ESRB and will be available on October 2, 2012 in North America and October 5, 2012 internationally for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system, Wii™ system and Windows PC. The Wii U™ version of the title will be available during the holiday season. Fans are encouraged to pre-order now at participating retailers in order to receive the NBA All-Star content on day one at no extra cost.

Knowing that 2k has to individually bargain with every former player in order to make these teams a reality, that can prove to be a tough task. Not every former player is sitting on a mountain of cash lighting Cuban cigars with burning $100 bills like MJ could. Also not every former player is a gamer and values the importance of being included for authenticity's sake just for the fans. For some it's about getting the most money they can especially when they see an opportunity for some leverage(Pippen testing how much 2k is willing to pay for a complete DT roster).

Ultimately this is a business and knowing the unpredictable financial nature of trying to put these legend teams together I think people should be happy that they have had them for the last 2 years because I can't see 2k doing this for the long haul.

Well said.

Pippen not being in the game has its reasons and it's not because they didn't try to get him and not because he wanted more money than anyone else. There's a reason behind everything and we, who buy and play the games, have no clue on how the politics behind everything works.

Can't we be happy Barkley's in the game and be happy for the other improvements 2K13 will bring?
That's the thing we don't know why they couldn't reach an agreement, like you said. So you can't come out and say that it's not that he wanted more money than anyone else, we don't know. That COULD be the very reason why and, of course, it could still be some other reason. But you can't just say definitively that that's not the reason at this point.

I'm happy to see the USA teams finally being included in a video game, after how long a hiatus? I can't even remember the last time I saw any USA team grace our screens at our controls, maybe it's just me and my bad memory. I'm glad that Barkley is finally in a video game, as I'm sure a lot of people are. But, you can't blame people for voicing their displeasure for Pippen not being there as well, because I feel some of their pain as I'm disappointed he won't be a part of the 2K13 Dream Team representation also, and I'm not even a Pippen fan, I'd be on exactly the opposite end of that spectrum lol.

And considering the media started a small controversy between Kobe and MJ over the better Olympic team I like the whole What-If? showdown scenario 2K is using to market this.
Im with u on this u know why ppl complain about classic teams because some of the them wasnt born yet im talking about the ppl that complain about classics if u feel me that meansUUUUUUUUUU like the bro. said i could care less about the current NBA i PLAY CLASSIC BASKETBALL

Yes, Chuck was in NBA 2K for the Dreamcast. I think he may have also been in NBA 2K6 (XBox 360 version), but I'm not certain, on one of the Legend teams. Nice to see him back in the game and hopefully people can Hex edit Pippen on the Dream Team. Just gotta hope editing isn't made difficult and Pippen's cyberface is still on the disc.

I'd be thrilled that they're including the Dream Team, but without Scottie, it's not really the Dream Team. He was far too integral a player to leave out, I'd rather have no Dream Team than one without Pip. Even so, it'd still be a playable unit, unlike the classic Bulls teams that will be missing him sorely.

If there's anything that can be done, whether it be offering Pippen via DLC unlock to offset the cost, or renegotiating, I hope that 2K takes that extra step.

LOL we have to pull money together via DLC to pay Scottie Pippen? That's so sad bro.

I don't think it'd be ideal by any means, and yes, it would be rather pathetic, but if the budget crew cut him off(and we don't know that for sure), that IS a possible solution.

Leaving Pippen out all together is even worse, though, since it throws a gigantic monkey wrench into the classic rosters. It'd be the equivalent of omitting Westbrook from the Thunder or (cheap shot incoming) Wade's manipulating, flopping self from the Heat. Sure, you could create those guys or download them, or even hack them on the 360, but it'd sure make the roster feel incomplete. Many, especially on the PS3 would prefer to take a distasteful step to have a solid roster than to simply have gaping holes like Pippen missing.

As to settle the "Will legend teams be included in this year's version debate.", I copied and pasted this directly from the 2k website. Carefully read the last sentence of the paragraph.

"With more than 5 million copies sold worldwide and more than 25 Sports Game of the Year awards won, NBA 2K12 was another monster release for the biggest NBA video game simulation franchise in the world. This year, NBA 2K13 will represent all things basketball and take virtual hardwood to the next level. Featuring an enhanced My Player mode and all-new gameplay features, NBA 2K13 will let gamers pit the best players in NBA history against the new dynasty of talent."

I don't think there will just be legend players...has to be legend teams as well...at least that's my rationale.

Come on. It' s not like they had to choose between Barkley or pippen and chose Barkley. It's not 2ks fault.
It's up to you to buy the game or not. It sounds like it's your right to have the game exactly they would

First, NBA 2k exists solely to make money

Second, the inclusion of pippen would not add 5 million in sales

Third, Noone forced you to waste tons of hours on a game you don't enjoy

This is on pippen, 2k obviously opened up their wallet to get all these other guys so he must of wanted something exorbitant to get him in.

Nah, Chuck wasn't in 2K6. That was Terry Cummings (fooled me at first).

Chuck hasn't been in a 2K game this gen.

open your eyes!!!!

And do you think i'm the only one to spend so many hours to play to this game in thinking to find a solution to play better? we are millions to spend our life to play this game so much time because we like this game but read the wishlist man!!!! you didn't think there is a problem!

look 17376 people read this thread in one day!!

"the inclusion of pippen would not add 5 millions in sales" no possible to read that it's die
laughing!!! you didn't understand anything or it's the contrary you understood everything so imagine the jackpot!!! i have no more idee about that!!!
Saying that 2k ***** us each year is just over the line. They produce the best basketball games and it's up to you to spend your money on it if you think it's worth it. Your reasoning is just wrong. It's like complaining that call of duty is shot just cause they omitted one weapon you really wanted. How about looking at the overall picutr instead of whining about small things.

Dude I'am sure 2K wanted to have Pippen in the game. We don't really know what happened, but I'am sure they tried.

Do we even know what kind of money they give to theses guys to use their image in the game?
