NCAA Football 13 News Post

NCAA Football 13 Title Update #2 is available now for 360 and PS3.

As posted yesterday, below are the list of fixes.

Gameplay
  • Zone Defense has been updated.
- We improved receiver leverage logic as well as predicting when a receiver will be in or out of their zone.
- Improved Deep Half Zone decision making about when to split between uncovered receivers. Also, allow more zone overlapping in deep half to cover more area.
- Deep half defenders were dropping too close to the sideline or dropping outside when no receiver was outside of their position.
  • No-Huddle QB Spy bug fixed. Defenders will no longer go into spy assignments while in man coverage.
  • Receivers weren’t looking for hot-read passes.
  • CPU QBs passing during the drop would get set passes instead of on-the-run inaccurate passes.
  • Change the logic of man defenders so they don't run into the backfield and past the receiver they are covering.
  • Route running near sideline was causing issues especially on comeback routes.
  • Fixed players not respecting global show blitz/press/back off coverage after handing off a receiver.
  • Fixed sideline streak routes so they don't get clamped in a way that the route would end after 10 or 15 yards.
  • Drive summaries should now reset after each scoring drive.
  • Fixed HB stretch play issue where TE’s would be frozen in place during certain blocking animations.
  • Fixed an issue where if a defender made an interception in the end zone and fumbled the ball before his feet touched the ground, it was being counted as a fumble and not an incomplete pass.
  • Resolved an alignment issue where DB on HB would pick up FB instead of HB when HB was put in motion
  • Removed exploit that allowed users to create slant routes to the sideline by motioning a WR and flipping the play.
  • QB Rushing up the middle from under center effectiveness has been balanced.
  • FG holders are no longer downed by contact.
  • Increased frequency of AI using ball carrier special moves.
  • AI play call tuning: No 4th and long run calls; less draws and screens.
  • Ball Hawk feature implemented for user pass defense.
  • Fixed frozen players after celebration dives.
  • Fixed wildcat Play Action exploit.
  • Fixed Defenders not reacting to the QB on read option and option plays when the users defensive adjustment vs. option is set to Aggressive.
  • Fixed shake blitz exploit.
  • Fixed exploit that allowed kicking team to recover squib kicks using low rated kickers.
  • Fixed defensive hot routes after offensive play flip.
  • Fixed issue where waiting for the defense to make their adjustments before picking a play when running ho huddle/hurry up offense caused the defense to reset their play back to the original play.
  • Fixed ‘Jump the Snap’ blitz exploit.
  • Resolved issue where defenders would not react or would be stuck in read and react behavior vs. the option.
Dynasty
  • Once a promise becomes active, it was duplicating after each week advance.
  • Recruit Reports & Advisory options remained even after the "Allow Time Savers" setting was turned off.
  • Schools with a D+ Program Tradition could not get their grade increased through wins and championships.
  • In the off-season, post season games were not shown to have been played.
  • Fixed an issue where walk-on players were not appearing on the Online Dynasty Web Site.
  • You will now get your points back if a recruit instantly commits during a phone call.
  • Fixed an issue where swayed pitches and grades weren’t being displayed correctly.
Custom Playbooks
  • Fixed an issue where if CPU coaches were given a custom playbook, the players were occasionally lining up close to the ball.
  • Fixed an issue where the user was unable to create an offensive playbook that consisted of 1 of every formation.
  • Fixed an issue where the user was sometimes losing functionality after the UI disappears in Custom Playbooks.
  • Increased the stability of the product by fixing various crashes.
In addition, you will see a "Uniform Store" added to the menu. If it's an update to a team's default uniform, you will get those uniforms at no additional charge, via download in the store if and when available. The first uniforms will be available in the store beginning next month.

Everything is done for ONLINE PURPOSES. That is what is wrong with the series now. It wouldn't be so bad if it effected the CPU as well, but it doesn't. So once again offline people get screwed over because of an online problem.

I didn't know David Stern bought EA Sports.

Now far as other parts of the patch, some things improved, some didn't. And I'm still a firm believer CPU special moves use need to still be increased by 80% for regular plays and 200% for special teams. I find running backs coming out of the backfield sometimes juke way too early, like 4 yards before they make contact with a defender too early.

That is pretty much all the increase I see is in juke moves. They need to learn how to program the CPU AI ball carrier to chain moves together.

And what would be really cool and great is if they could patch in Madden 13's balance recovery on runs. In the Madden 13 demo, those balance recovery moves is just so awesome. You can stumble, regain your balance, push off of other players to help regain your balance and keep going.

I did break a long one for a TD, but their safety slipped in the snow, which is the reason why he scored.

I was on the fence about the "I can't hear you" animation before, but now I'm just completely annoyed with it. At one point in a game last night, THREE of my guys did the animation AT THE SAME TIME... AT HOME.... IN THE FIRST QUARTER. One was a SR(RS) Impact WR and another was was a SR WR. Same animation, exactly the same time. Look, I'm all for slowing down the pace of no-huddle, but the animations are just stupid and annoying. ESPECIALLY at home in the first quarter, with a SR Impact WR.
yeah i forgot to say that i was on Heisman as well.

I have real trouble deciding if download the 2nd patch or not. Half of you guys say the game feels great now and half say it does not. Plus the no huddle thing which again half says it's ok and the other half (including myself, I fear) disagrees. Plus I am not sure that freezing issues had been solved - in fact, I have read a couple of posts that it continues and even maybe happens more often than before. I have yet to start my first dynasty and only played 3 games so far, testing my ability, on AA level where all my settings are at 60 and CPU's at 50, 10 min. quarters with 50 threshold and normal speed, and so far I had very mixed success:

1st game: Navy vs. Kansas State 28-14 (with me being the Navy)
Very interesting game, going up 14-0 in the first qtr only for not being able to score again until last 5 mins in the 4th, KSU leveling the game at 14-14 in the meantime, but the late touchdown and following fumble return saved the day for me.

2nd game: Wisconsin @ Hawaii 45-48 OT (me being the Badgers)
Wanted to test the famed W's O-Line as well as Montee Ball & James White combo in particular, and ended up blowing at least two double digit leads during the game. I felt like in the second half the CPU played 100% better defense, I had thrown 7 picks in the game, but overall a great experience and hell of a battle.

3rd game: Duke vs. LSU 50-27 (me being Duke)
I have lowered my sliders from 60 to 55 and wasn't able to move the ball at all in the 1st qtr. Down 0-10. In second a finally got all the way down to LSU's 1 yard line and sneaked in with the QB for a TD. At the half, I led 22-10. In third, I was held to 0 pts again but CPU got only a FG and in the fourth I was just able to controll the game.

What made me nervous was that I intentionally tried the verticals to see the supposed bug in Cover 2 and now I am confused as what to think about it. I hit about 3-4 long completions on perhpaps 8-9 tries, 2 of them for TDs, but also had a streak of 3 intentional long bomb attempts that have not been completed due to very good CPU coverage. But I am afraid it was due to CPU calling other coverage that Cover 2 every time in that particular sequence.

So what now, does the patch# 2 have any meaning to this game or not? Bother, or not bother, that's a question, right?

Sucks you have such bad luck playing online that you need 245,744,785 reasons not to play. I have played over 100 ranked games online against randoms and have only had cheesers a few times. I have no problem with people running the no huddle and I have no problem with how quick it used to be. I do have a problem with them claiming it's to prevent cheesers when it's extremely easy for the cheesers to get around it.

you dumb****, its annoying and no one can run their offense! Plus teams call two or so plays from the huddle so they can quick snap and keep up the tempo. And they would get plays from the sideline to keep the tempo up. THIS ruins ALL tempo and no huddle is impossibly frustrating to use. EA PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD FIX THIS

Fight Night was pretty good at release and then the online people that were leving themselves open and not using defense started crying because they were getting knocked out. Next thing you know, 1 punch KO's were taken out and the game turned into people leaning over and jabbing you to the belly for 3 straight minutes every round. Then they tweaked it again and again and fouled things up worse. In the end, most boxing fans ended up with the game on the shelf broken beyond repair.

The days of the quality single player sports games are numbered because they cater to the online win at all costs players.

This. People online that can't stop something online complain, the "problem" in question is destroyed and people like me who don't go online get shafted because the fix ruins something perfectly fine to us. Then when we get used to the patch, they break the game entirely.

I started a post right before this game dropped comparing the direction of this game with FNC!!! These patches and tuners make the game worse off than it was before.

It's really simple for me...

I feel like EA lied their butts off regarding this patch. They said they were fixing the safety and zone play and they DID NOT. They didn't fix it at all. This game maybe going on the shelf as early as next Friday evening when my Season Ticket kicks in and Madden gets loaded to my hard drive!!!

So, did we figure out if this patch really applies to current dynasties or is a new dynasty required

# 432 dfin11 @ 08/18/12 01:13 AM
i dont think it is just a cover 2 glitch. ive learned that if i run the play called "spacing" (all receivers run 4-6 yard hitches) out of a five wide set, i beat the defense 9/10 times. i usually only run this at the end of halves and it ends up being my last resort play if im down at the end of games and rarely fails me regardless of the defense. i dont know if this is what everyone is referring to or not, but it seems like other than that i dont have great success throwing over the middle anymore.

I've noticed the changes in my current dynasty that I had pre-patch.

I've been doing Coach Mode and watching the CPU vs. CPU and it never fails...as soon as they get behind they go deep and it's money EVERY time. What ends up hapening is you have these ridiculous shootouts 59-51. So, in order for me to make this game playable I have created generic defensive playbooks for each type of defense minus the Cover 2 Zone plays and generic offensive playbooks for each style of offense minus all streak and go routes. Then add in Coaching Sliders, Roster Edits and Game Sliders and what it results to is a bunch of work and a whole lot less play!

I've read the first 11 pages of the thread and haven't seen anyone address my major problem, does the new patch fix dynasty freezes??? In two day's on three different profiles ive had the frakkin thing freeze on me.. Once with Oregon, once with Texas State and I've tried twice for a UGA dynasty but both times first game it frakkin froze on me.... It's getting on my nerves... makes me wish I had hair to pull out of my head....

the no huddle crap is real simple. with this stupid animation every time it takes longer to get off a play from no huddle than with huddle. I don't know what to say if someone actually thinks that is ok.

What wasn't okay was being able to run a no huddle and be able to get back to the line and get a play off with no time coming off the clock. That's not acceptable.

I think it was a boneheaded move for EA to create a forced delay like they did, especially as lengthy as 7 seconds. What people need to understand is that teams run no huddle at a normal pace, and that it isn't always a break neck tempo. Even Oregon will sometimes take 10 to 15 seconds off the play clock while running a no huddle. They also get off some plays in under 3.

So it's not as broken as many of you like to think it is. It's mostly laziness on EA's part to implement the features of their game correctly. I think it'd be much better if the players looked to the sideline at some point, rather than just at the QB or something.

the real problem here is the cpu play calling.

almost every time i was in a long yardage situation (3rd and 20) or at the end of the first half looking to get downfield, basically situations where you would pick 4 verts, the cpu ALMOST ALWAYS picks a Cover 2 zone defense.

no one in their right mind would be playing that type of defense in those situations. 4 verts is gonna beat that defense damn near everytime.

and this for every team. they all play cover 2 zone too often.

im just happy post patch the safeties are playing 10x better for me.

the cpu offensive playcalling is just pathetic.

they could be driving well getting yardage then all of a sudden they call a 4 vert which certainly leads to a user pic...

i've seen the cpu call it on 1st& 10....

this causes me to shut off the game immediately, its annoying playing a meaningful dynasty, if its not a sack screen, its a random option by a QB or team that does not use the option, or its a hail mary mid drive.....

i have tried everything, a week ago i thought i was in football heaven when the coach profiles seemed to diversify the cpu playcalling but it seems only to work for c+ or lower rated teams, when the big teams come to town they are crippled with 5 picks due to stupid playcalling.....

this patch does help with the screen issues, they are fewer of them, but the 4 verts now is too rampant...

the RB's juking too early is forgivable but the playcalling is just flawed at this point....
