For those of you with XBOX Live Silver accounts, there is a free Gold Weekend starting Thursday so you can download the demo then.

The other posts seem quite positive overall. It makes me wonder it I'm playing the same demo. The graphics are quite nice, and the audio is much improved.

However, the infinity engine seems to be doing exactly the opposite of what it is intended to do. It was supposed to make you "feel" the physics and add realism. Momentum was supposed to be taken into account, and collisions would feel fluid and organic. Instead, I feel as if the game chooses two vectors (direction and magnitude) for each player entirely at random when a collision occurs. It certainly feels random...but realism and "feel" are entirely absent to me. The only positive is that fumble piles seem much more geniune.

I've purchased Madden every year since I can remember, but I'm on the fence with this one.

Played a few games and I like it. Its good not great.

With that said, lets not kid ourselves. We knew the issues coming in that wouldn't be fixed. (or at least you should have if you frequent OS)

Those being...Line play is still horrible. We knew this. I'm not gonna complain.

Movement and momentum is still very unnatural. We should have known this would be the case as well. (like I have said, this will NOT be fixed until Next-Gen)

AI is suspect again. No surprise.

Now, all that being said I feel like the game has taken a leap forward. The commentary is excellent. Great job Chase and co. Finally where it should be and I am sure it will get better as we go.

My thoughts on the Infinity engine. I don't feel like this is real time physics. It is however drastically better than what we had before. Its a solid base on which to build from. I fully expect this to evolve as Madden moves forward in the next-gen.

Once you slow the game down, everything feels good. Passing is much better thanks to the new trajectories. Running is ok. I still feel like the special moves (juking) don't work as well as they should.

Playing defense is still pretty much horrible. At least for me. I wish they made use of NCAA's player lock camera. It would make it more fun. As it stands it just boring. Especially with the horrible line play.

The graphics are very good. Definitely a step up. Do the player models need to be a little more slender? Yes. But they aren't bad in my opinion.

The one thing that bugs me to no end is the running animations. While they aren't horrible, they aren't good. My wife said "that guy is running like he is riding a horse." So yeah. Lets get this taken care of EA.

Overall, solid effort. Definitely moving in the right direction. I think I will actually be able to enjoy this game this year.

Sorry for everything being scattered. Those are my thoughts for anyone who may care.

So far I love Madden 13!

It gave me a challenge against the computer. It's not an easy game to play. It'll take some getting used to.

To me it's a brand new game. Sure there are a few things here and there but it can be improved. And I think they took a big step this year from Madden 12.

The things I loved about the demo were:
The blocking- Man it's hell of a lot better than 12.. You didn't see any players running free often without the offensive lineman blocking them. Since we didn't have replay I couldn't tell, but from what I've seen every blocker at least attempts to block the defender which is awesome.

The WR/DB interaction- I think this makes a huge difference in the game. You'll see them do things you wouldn't think Madden would approve upon. Of course you can thank the infinity engine for mostly everything that happens. But I've seen diving swats/catchs, players fighting to go up for the ball, AND the both WR/DB locate the ball and turn their heads before they make a play on it! I was so happy with this part of the game you don't even know.

The passing was so smooth and it was challenging which is fantastic. The directional passing will make a difference in this game.

I love the new special teams plays and improved blocking when you return the ball. In past maddens, your gunner would just go right through your blockers... But in 13 I've noticed that it's harder to get down the field on special teams.

The commentary was the best so far. There was no real problems with it except a few repeated things but none the less very well spoken.

The infinity engine made the game for me. It just changes the game. Makes it more realistic. In madden 12 you see players going through eachother not even putting a scratch on them or tackling them. This time around I see players having trouble getting up the field in space unless no one is around them. Players stumbling over there own guys. Creating piles. Everything is just a lot cleaner imo.

I'm not a great reviewer but we have ourselves one of the best looking Maddens in while.

Just played my first full game and it was AMAZING! I was the Giants (Pierre Paul is a BEAST) and beat the 49ers 12-10.

It was 10-10 with 2 mins to go and my punter put the ball on their own 1 yard line and Pierre Paul tackled Gore in the endzone for the game winning safety. Gore had a great game though, well over 100 yards on me.

Crowd/atmosphere/commentary was lively and excellent. I LOVE THIS GAME!

So I played a few series and I will defentally get season ticket now.

Presentation- EA should give the audio guys a raise, Best improvement in this series yet. Commentary is much, much better. Only complaint I have is the menu music sounds too NCAAish with the big band stuff. Stat banners are perfect and remind me of a CBS broadcast for sure. The halftime overview is a great addition as well.

Gameplay- This will get some getting used too, but I've already seen some "wow" moments. It can only get better from here. I hope people are not expecting a major change, but the series is going into the right direction. I agree with others, the game plays much better on the "very slow" settings.

Can't wait until season ticket drops in 10 days to get more out of this game.

Okay, after playing 5 games, on all-pro and changing the game speed to slow. I've gotten a lot of "wow" moments, but it just feels like something is missing, I don't know what it is.

The graphics are good, the presentation isn't terrible, rtp isn't a bust, passing is decent. I think it's the running game, I'm a guy that establishes the run. It's boring and doesn't really replicate the ball carriers. Maybe it's momentum, footplanting or just the explosiveness. I don't feel like I can be creative with my rb's, or hit a hole with that burst. (Even playing on normal)

It's not a bad game, but it's not what I was expecting it to be. For the first year rtp is okay, it will be tweaked and improved on. I'm still getting this game, and hopefully some sliders and rosters can bring out the best of madden 13.

The Demo is cool...commentary is waaaay better..presentation cut scenes still don't gel together to me [still look cut and paste]. The game looks beautiful...my only gripe is the animations...I'm seeing some funky stuff during tackle animations .Zach miller was just tackled by 3 of my guys [which is cool] his arm rolled over in a tuck which was natural but then popped back up kinda backwards lol...I think they still have some stuff to tweak with the new engine at some points it seems like rag dolls on the field ..folks are falling for no reason...that's my only gripe so far .I skipped 12 so this is kinda cool so far I don't know if its a 1st day purchase yet still on the fence

oh yeah I almost forgot the instant replays are doing some funky stuff too...I threw a TD with RG3..the Replay just showed him walking away after the play was done from different camera angles. I was expecting to see the throw and catch not that lol

On PS3 downloaded an hour and a half ago, took about 25 mins. First impressions, meh. Things i like: Crowd swells on big plays. Improved commentary. No super linebackers. Things i don't like: Replays-awful. Broadcast inspired close-ups gone. Can't hear penalty calls. Will try a few more games adjusting sliders etc but i may pass on this, thank the lord for 2k5rosters.

played 1 game (Giants) so far on all-pro, so my impressions are a work in progress...

as a person who said they would not buy the game on day 1, i have to say that after playing my 1st game im still holding firm on that stance.

imo the game feels floaty. when i was running with A.Bradshaw, he felt light as a feather and i dont mean that in a good way. i didnt feel any weight to the players i was controling.

also i hated that they made me do the stupid hop juke every single time i tried to make a simple hard cut with the left stick or everytime i went to juke. (i wasnt holding in turbo in either case).

passing was ok, tho 2x i pressed up to throw the ball into the deep middle to hit a post route to Cruz, only to have P.Willis jump and int the ball.

tackling was awful (part i disliked the most) and the same break tackle animation triggered every single time. and i saw alot of ragdoll stuff which looked plain stupid.

graphics are pretty good but to me the color have a cartoonish feel them, instead of a realistic feel. cartoonish doesnt have to mean bad visuals, but for a football game id like a different feel personally.

wasnt really paying to much attention to commentary.

i can see why some folks would be impressed with the demo as it definately didnt lay an egg, but like i said i havent seen anything yet to make a person who wasnt going to buy the game sing a different tune. but we'll see there's still time left.

Played 5 games today and I'm really enjoying it.

Pluses:

+ I'm loving the Kinect feature. Works much better than I thought i would.
+ Graphics are superb
+ RTP improves the gameplay
+ Crowd sounds are near perfect. New commentators do a good job.

Needs work:

- A.I. at times does weird things. Horrible computer play calling.
- RTP looks and works wonky sometimes, especially after a play is called dead. i.e. guys falling down in weird ways. RBs falling down just from barely running into their own lineman.
- Lighting is way too dark at least in the Washington game.
- Tackle sounds are weak and arcadey sounding.
- More camera angle options, please.
- Animations overall look unatural, not fluid at all. Maybe next gen?

Hell, they should just be the first big time sports game to feature in-game meme's. The reply would have been fine with LIKE A BOSS! stamped on the screen.

I'm sure this will be worked out, if it hasn't been already for the release. But I noticed it too. A little concerned.

Is it just me, or is the lighting too bright?

On a punt return with the sun at my back, the lighting made it hard for me to figure out who my teammates were when playing Skins vs. Hawks.

When the sun is in front of you, everything is fine... seems like the sun is at too much of an angle for a 1:00 game to have such a drastic difference when facing towards or away from it?

In general the brightness of the lighting effects for a 1:00 game give it a very washed out appearance IMO.

The motion blur during non-replay cut scenes is also odd, guys are getting up off the ground and moving so fast it's a blur.

# 499 Icarus2k9 @ 08/14/12 06:19 PM
Well, if nothing else this demo has convinced me how important an immersive CCM will be to my enjoyment of the game...

* The graphics are predictably fine, though I always find the blurring effects make me feel like the screen is covered in vaseline rather than conveying a sense of speed.
* The passing is like night and day really. I've been very average at best with passing these past...5 years? Just because I've been so afraid at the super comp's ability that I'd only attempt screens, crossing patterns in the middle and maybe the odd post route against cover 2. On this one I feel like I can actually attempt to make the throws I can see, even if the leading mechanic feels more like something you would do on the soccer pitch than in american football in its implementation - or maybe that's me actually being able to use my soccer passing mindset in american football for a change.
* Commentary is solid without being spectacular, good choice of commentators to ground things again too instead of manufactured excitement. I don't see why everyone is saying how awesome the crowd sound is, though I do appreciate them reacting - still seems too muted. I'll try cranking up the telly to see if it's just me being stupid.
* Goodness, the infinity engine feels average. It feels worse than Fifa's first attempt at RTP a year or so ago, and that created a load of amusing scenarios. It may be because I recognise the husks of all the old tackling animations in the m13 tackles, but it makes it feel like if someone's arm forces someone down it was more down to flailing ragdoll physics getting lucky and less about a player organically going for a grab. It's also jarring to get something that is supposed to replicate how physics work in real life without having the accompanying true momentum, nevermind that height and weight are discounted (I want a 99 strength WR to be strong for his position, NOT all-world strong).

As I said above, if anything the demo has made me put even more trust in CCM. Play now games aren't going to cut it, I'm going to need the ups and downs of seasons to fix that itch. Madden is thankfully now at a standard where if you can wrap it up in an immersive season mode you can play it for years...but it still feels like we're a few years and a few philosophy changes away from greatness.
