Well this all looks very nice...
Gotta say I am, just like many of you, a bit concerned about the new back skating.
It seems since it is a new* mechanic, that they've made it to easy.
Now again, it could be that they're just putting together lots of clips where the back skating succeeds, because they wanna show it off, but anyway, it feels like a cheese move already.

* Vision Control made you face the goal on offense, or the puck on defense which at many times could be used for back skating. I think this new mechanic means skating backwards in relation to the direction you're skating. Not in relation to the puck or the goal.

Oh, and is that a fake pass in the last attack (at about 4:30 in the video)? Sweet.

That looked absolutely outstanding. Love the new skating engine and the goalies. And the passes look like they've lossend up too. They're still really accurate, but it looks like it'll be easier for somebody to come in and take the puck away. Looks great.

Hey look! Computer D is still broken. Shocker.

While the backwards skating goal issue is still up in the air, I like what they have done with it in general. Jeff Skinner does a nifty little half twist to set up passes and to slow the D down so he can blast by, and I saw the "backwards button" used for this purpose at 1:25 and 3:45. I thought it looked great, as I have not really been able to pull of the move in NHL 12, so I'm excited to see that. Can't wait for the demo!

Same old problems with the game, including spin-on-a-dime super-agility.

The Taylor Hall goal looked sweeeet!

Very realistic looking cut into the slot, and a wrister that caught the corner.

Looks awesome!

I'm still worried about figure skaters, but so far it looks like you can only pull these types of cuts and moves from a glide, so stopping and going up and down the half wall should be rather ineffective with the momentum integrated.

I'm hoping that the separation between players is noticeable this year.

Obviously they are doing all this back-skating with the best players in the NHL to be able to showcase it. The elite skaters in the league should be able to do that fancy back skating. I understand the people who have concerns about it being an exploit online, but hopefully 2nd, 3rd, and 4th line players will not be able to maneuver around that easily.

Maybe a bit off topic but....

I'm really hoping that for '13', that the ease of pass reception and puck control sliders are really effective.

Jmo but, man it'd great to see the players having at least at times, trouble gathering control of passes. And especially the lower rated players losing control of the puck if User/cpu try to get too fancy with the puck handling. Ie...the puck far less glued to the sticks. Of course I didn't expect to see anything like this in the video. But I hope it's possible through slider work.

Very well said, Gopher. This is my hope as well.

Player separation with ratings/size and weight being very sensitive, imo...would be were the player models would really start to take on more character. Were you could truly feel the difference between certain players through your controller.

It'd be so much more interesting and fun if you really had to understand your roster, and just what each player is/isn't capable of doing.

One other thing I note about this video, and I don't really like is the whole going into "top end" speed.
I don't really know how to explain it, but when watching the video it seems that it's something thats gonna annoy me. It doesn't look smooth, and as far as I understand it is something completely automatic, as opposed to earlier versions "push puck".

In the video it seems, like everytime a guy gets the puck, he recieves it, looks up and puts into top end speed pushing the puck.
I get the feeling there's gonna be a lot of wtf moments when my guy pushes the puck and a defender steals it just because I happen to push the left stick up.

I can be wrong, but like I said there's just that feeling in the video... it doesnät look good.

new broadcast cam looks great, finally.

Few things have me worried.

1) Looks like it's going to be really easy to skate right around defenders.
2) The back skate looks too easy. The one play where Richard skates into the offensive zone using the back skate is very unrealistic. Guys can't go from skating forward to backwards to forwards without losing any speed or puck control. Maybe one or two guys a generation.
3) Is there a button to stop one time passes? Too many times in '12, I ran into cases where my controlled player wouldn't even get a touch on a puck that'd go right between him and his stick. Hopefully it's easier to get a touch on the puck and the game plays a little "messier".

Looks a lot better than NHL 12, only hitting seems to be broken still. Hope they fix that too..

Love how the goalies are anticipating passes and quick shots now. I wonder if you can expose those anticipations too. I didn't see the broadcast view..?? Is it left-to-right camera angle or up/down?
