Why does EA need to patch in the new playoff system?

Well, it’s the biggest change in college football since the implementation of the BCS. And the shadow of the playoff will be hanging over the college football season. If it’s not in the game, then EA is failing to deliver the most accurate product possible.

I think it can wait at a minimum another year. I would like to see the actual system in place and represented correctly rather than a random 4 team setup or even a fake NFL playoff option. Its not in the game yet so I dont want it in my game yet.

I think it would greatly add to the immersion in dynasty to have BCS bowls for the first two years and then a switch to a 4 team playoff in your 2015 season. However, I doubt that something like that could be done with a patch. I doubt that it could easily be implemented without breaking the game. The Scheduling, bowl setups, code for handling the team selection, all would have to be restructured. It's not as simple as slapping on a couple of extra games. It is a matter of writing code to completely switch out the old structure for the new two in-game seasons after a dynasty is started.

I have to agree with everyone who is saying that this article was unnecessary. It's a decent wish, but it isn't something that needs to be patched in. Like I said, I even doubt that it can be simply patched in.

Exactly it's about creativity and boldness not really a strong point of said company

it would be cool if EA had their own version of a playoff system and put it in the game...

take the top 8 teams or the conference champions and have them play a 3 week playoff...that culminates in a national championship game around January 8th or so...

it doesn't really matter to me if it's not exactly like the real life playoff system will be...since it's not bein' implemented for another 2 years...

You could choose between playoffs or bowls to end your season in the Genesis games, too.

So the feature was actually around for two consecutive gaming generations.

For whatever reason, they took away the feature when NCAA Football made the jump from PS1 to PS2.

yea i miss some of the old stuff they let us do. Playoffs were in the old one because of the 1AA teams and they let us use it in 1A. the NCAA pulled the plug on it not EA, my minds like a steel trap. THey will never let us have the playoffs before all the licenising is done for the bowls. remember there are alot of peps out there that want their due from EA. EA's lawyers will never open this can of worms. but, a earlier poster pointed out that EA could do there own version of the playoffs. that could be possible. Still, the ncaa can remove anything they want from EA's game. This is the same as when Miami and company moved from the big east to acc. they werent allowed to do that because of conference licsensing and we had to wait. they dont even have bowls figured out yet for it.

What year was it that NCAA Football gave you a playoff option? Like 98 or something?

I think this article is right on. The only thing I want to do is take my Road to Glory Tim Riggins to the playoffs and win it all under the Jerry-tron!

There was one on Sega Genesis that did. It was not Bill Walsh's game, Im not sure it was EA. I want to say it was something like NCAA 96 or 97

Edit: Jyoung beat me to it. I heard that NCAA made them quit, but that is merely a rumor.

Wow I think we have to wait until the Next version so EA can get the Layout

The Genesis game was College Football USA '96. The '97 version also had playoffs, but it wasn't as good a game overall.

Even though it had a new name, the game was made by the same team that did Bill Walsh College Football (High Score Productions).

Bill Walsh '95 also had the option to go to a playoff system or to bowl games.

I didn't play the '98 version, but I know NCAA '99 let you have a 16-team playoff at the end of the season if you wanted to. They kept the playoff option in the game until the final PS1 version (NCAA 2001).

Once the series went to PS2, the playoff feature never came back.

Lots of EA bashing here. If the details are set before the next development cycle gets into full swing, then I would say EA should patch it in. However, as far as I can tell, the NCAA doesn't even know what in the heck is going on.

As for next year's game, the same applies. If the public knows exactly, set in stone, how the format works, EA should be inclined to add it, or face bad reviews and justified backlash.

As far as I am concerned as of now, backlash is not justified over this particular issue. Besides, there are far more things we can justly give them grief over.

I can't believe some people are saying they will pass on buying the game this year because a feature, that's not even happening in real life yet, isn't in the game.

i would love to see this and would be absolutely FLABBERGASTED if they did this...but, lets all be real they cant even get the revo speed 2bar facemask that 90% of college QB's will be wearing THIS YEAR in the game. They cant get the sock length right umm EVER... im not gonna hold my breathe for this to happen until they have too..

NCAA Football 2001 was the last game in the series to include a playoff option. I believe EA had to take it out because the NCAA forced them to.

The details are auctually set except for the 5th and 6th Bowls.
The Selection commitee (could be replicated by polls for NCAA) ranks the teams 1-12. Top 4 go to playoff with 1v4 and 2v3 at rotating sites of the 6 Bowl games (4 current BCS, 5th is likely Jerry Jones world, and 6th is up for bidding). Winners meet eachother at highest bidding city/arena. Then the other 4 bowl games take 5-12. Could be implemented as soon as we find out who bowls #5 and #6 go to. I'd say doable but then again....it is EA

For those saying it's not in place yet, it wasn't in place in 1998 either yet they had it in NCAA 99. Why not now?

Maybe the NCAA won't allow EA to put it in the game?
