Madden NFL 13 News Post

Kotaku's Owen Good has posted what Madden NFL 13 Connected Careers gives and takes away. He also spoke with Josh Looman on something they might add to the game.

Quote:
Looman, when I revisited this subject with him in L.A., told me that the development team was still on the fence about one meta-game feature in Connected Careers, which I pleaded with him to keep. In an early build, he told me that creative director Mike Young created himself as a 37-year-old journeyman quarterback, rated in the high-70s but with declining attributes. At that age, the XP spend to improve or maintain skills is also more expensive, creating a considerable challenge even at Pro difficulty. But Young gutted it out and was named Super Bowl MVP, in a great story of a veteran plucked from the scrap pile to win it all.

Like i said in another post...all this talk about editing/coding cnt be implemented or not having the "time" or being unable to add it into CC is because of "bugs" etc is BS because OBVIOUSLY its already implemented into CC when you first create a SS in CC..so the Coding/foundation of it is already installed in CC without ANY problems before you start your career! Cmon man...you mean to tell me you couldnt atleast give that option to ALL players before you click start on your CC??...

That is just bs my friend

Cool....I don't have any clue went on either and honestly I can only share my frustration basing it on ideal conditions also. I have no idea what level of resources were available and I have no idea what development goals initiated the decisions. All I know is that you need to set standards for what you'll expose your customers to and the never ending cycle of changes is just really confusing to say the least. The goal IMO should be to develop to the needs of your customer and when you exchange benefits/features it creates a lateral pattern of offerings and also creates inconsistent customer satisfaction.

Is it true that we can only save One cc at a time because I Usually save do a franchise with the eagles since they are my favorite team and I also do one with a scrub team.

No, as of now you can have an "unlimited"(in reality it is limited by your hard drive space) number of different CC's going on at once.

at the end of the day everything will boil down to 1 simple question that will either give folks hope 4 the future or just piss people off even more and thats: Does what was implimented in CCM fully work as advertised.

alot of ppl are not getting all this info that we are discussing and i personally believe when they 1st discover some of these ommissions they will experience personally the same frustration a lof of folks here have experience. but if the mode delivers what EA has promised it will deliver than ppl will eventually move past their frustrations and lose themselves within the experience laid out for them.

but if CCM fails to deliver in a major way on the promises EA has made, coupled with the removed features, I personally believe the fall out will have major ramifications heading into the next generation of consoles. even tho i do believe M13 will sell very well.

so again it really all boils down to: does CCM truly work as advertised..and in the truth of this answer i believe we will know all we need to know moving forward.

based on what i currently know as of this moment, personally ima hold of 4 a month or so to see which way the wind will blow. if all is on the up in up, dispite being very displeased about some of the features that are being left out, ill jump on board and pick the game up. sure im not the only 1 with this gameplan.

Not the case, the people that will miss the options of offline franchise will absolutely hate not being able to do the things they've grown accustomed to doing. It's similar to adding the strat pad, they had to change it because a large part of the community felt it was restrictive. This is no different other than it's a lot more work than stream lining an input method.

This is why people who are going to miss those features are expressing themselves with personal accounts most times. The people who won't miss these features or the strictly online player is indifferent to the effect. It may be small potatoes to the online player, and I know many of them can't see past the improvements as some could care less about those improvements. It's an issue that needs to be addressed, and the closer it gets to release day without no information regarding those features the more ticked the protesters are gonna be. While the online player or the people who don't have this issue are gonna remain the same, full of optimism and glee.

Must be lovely to feel that way this time of year.

Agree with most of this, but what answer would make people the happiest? What if the answer is we will attempt to patch in editing this year if it works effiently and next year we will try to put back the features that were left off this year if it works efficiently.

Would that make people happy?

its not a conspiracy... They made the game the way people have asked for it for years. I'm sorry if that doesn't fit the way you play. Having a functioning game mode is (IMO and many others) more important than being able to edit rosters.
Sorry for the late reply but no it is not how every sports game is made.

In other games I can have edited rosters when they are done and don't have to wait for an "official" roster release to start my season.

You're fooling yourself if you think otherwise.

I believe the truth is all that is needed in any situation and then let the parties involved deal with the information they are given. It's definitely a big issue, tell me the truth and I may still buy in good faith. Say nothing and risk me not even thinking about making this purchase. Quiet frankly how bad does EA value it's Madden community? Or do I care about them more than they care about me in this business relationship we've had going on for 20 years. Give or take the years they were unfaithful to me or I to them.

I hope you are right, Tre, but I guarantee you, if the truth be told, there will still be a faction of the people who will be mad as all get go, no matter what EA says.

I love your answer in the ideal world and I hope it's true.

We have to meet somewhere. The intelligent should be able to take whatever the answer is, and move on from there. It's obvious that it is a big issue and the protesters can't do anything. It's in the devs corner and something I feel, the sooner addressed the better. I myself may never have another opinion on the game based on the answer.

Patch in exactly what functionality offline franchise last year had that was left out of CCM and it's a done deal.....end of discussion. People are only upset because entire modes of how they've played in the past are completely gone and the flexibility to edite players and make your own Playbooks is history in CCM. Put that back in and you've got 95% of the people happy as could be IMO.

I agree, that is what makes the world go round. I just think, if the old code isn't meshing with the new code at this time, hard to patch everything in from last year with a bit more than a month from going gold.

That's why I say, not everyone will be a happy camper with whatever EA says.

One thing they keep harping on is the ability to "change over" in CC if you get bored with your current team. Couldn't you do that in madden 12? I remember being able to switch which teams were user controlled and which weren't every offseason. A positive is you can switch from coach to player, I guess.

If they said they were going to do everything they could to get editing players, importing classes, multiple team control, and couch co-op into CC for Madden 14 I'd be much happier with the direction they're taking.

As far as I know none of this has been said and my biggest concern going forward is that we will be without these features for more than just one year. I wouldn't be surprised if all of these features (except editing) are still absent from CC in Madden 14.

Gotcha...its really tough to pick one or two things you know because so much was removed. I guess that if full editing and some form of multi player franchise was patched in to CCM it would really ease the tension.

I agree but we should still be able to make our own offline CC roster. Is that unreasonable?

They were taken out becuase none of our customizations benefit EA directly in the short term they want us to be forced to come to them for updates and they want us to be online when playing. Decisions like this get people, crews, whole departments fired and companies become afterthoughts because they ignored there fan bases wishes.

Well said sir! Sadly, the only alternative is to not purchase the product and unfortunately that won't happen because 1) there's no other new game for that NFL fix and 2) Frankly, people can be sheep when it comes to Madden.

How true , I'd like them to come out with a statement of the nature we'll patch in what we can get to work and have it fully restored in M14 which if it is a time/resources issue should be possible (NCAAImports may be more complicated?).
I'm sorry to say tho' I can't see that coming. I sometimes feel like I'm being told I'm not playing it right when I question things.
