NHL 13 News Post

GameInformer interviewed NHL 13 producer, Andy Agostini and posted 30 details you need to know about the revamped GM mode in NHL 13.

Quote:
  • This new GM Connected mode features a full 82-game schedule and can run for up to 25 years.
  • Users can play GM Connected in several ways, including a solo league against the CPU AI, standard versus, co-op, six-on-six online team play, taking the role of a general manager, or as a coach who handles line changes and team strategy.
  • Though some outlets (including us) criticized NHL 12 for having too many players rated 80 and above, EA is content with its current ratings system and believes that by surfacing the six player traits instead of three it will be easier for players and AI GMs to better understand a player's true value.

outstanding, this info on the "Connected" mode just made this a lock for "buy" this year.

been holding out for EA to bring it to the NHL series, now I'm sold.

they basically took the brilliant concept that the NCAA series has been striving for and what were decent ideas in the NBA 2k Online association but were broken and merged them together.

I love that they are allowing each user to choose his style of "connectivity", I know that just got 2 of my buddies on board. they like playing hockey games but know nothing about running a team or the minors or how to manage line construction.

I hate the bits about the online draft being automated and EA being content with the way the player ratings currently are. Other than that, the rest sounds pretty good.

I really wish Fantasy Draft was included.

  • Forcing us to play 82 games has set this mode up to fail ! Should have a custom season length !!! 20/42/82.
  • I can't draft my own players ? What ! I have to rank them. wow!
  • No Fantasy draft cause it will take too long ? Lame excuse EA ! Its my business how much time I want to spend drafting players. Why do you care?
  • Again NO CUSTOM SEASON LENGTH come on now.
.
I also see no mention of custom sliders, wonder if they will be an option.
While i'm glad they have an online gm mode those things I mentioned above have me somewhat disappointed especially the no customized season length.

@TDKing So you are willing to do a 45 round draft, but not willing to play 82 games? Sorta contradicting yourself there

LOL that is awesome....

but youre just as Lame as EA for saying that :/ Some people will never be happy...

This is very exciting, the best part was the fact that you can do 6v6 online. This news is fantastic for all the VHL / WHL ... every league you can think of and no 82 games is not a problem.

Does anyone know if the multi-user aspect of GM Mode is available offline or is offline still single player only?

Ummm.. who says I'm going to have all human players... and what if I only wanted to do the 1st 3 rounds of the draft. Maybe I enjoy drafting and off season stuff and that's why I don't want to play through an 82 game season.
I want to be able to have multiple off seasons before the next years game is released. I don't like to sim games. I think you people may need to think a little more before you post. ITS ABOUT HAVING THE OPTIONS to play how I want to play !!!!
Oh and I guess you just overlooked what I rreally said "While i'm glad they have an online gm mode those things I mentioned above have me somewhat disappointed especially the no customized season length

One more thing.. How long does it take you to do a 12 team fantasy Football draft ? Alot less time than playing 82 games I think. Its the reason that they gave for not having a manual draft that aggravated me the most.

Rome wasn't built in a day. At least they are finally bringing out be a gm for online play. I would rather they fix the glitch goals and make the game realistic ohh and fix the AI the worry about a better draft system. Hopefully NHl 14 will have a better Be a gm but I am happy for now

So from what I understood, the online multilayer league had an automated draft(which I'm ok with, server load/everyone else's issues) bu single player offline you still get to draft the players you want.

Lots of good stuff here.

I'm not very interested personally about the on-line things [although happy for those that are.] but the AI upgrades to BEAGM sound great. Hopefully some of the issues will be really fixed.

I'm also disappointed about no custom season length. Kinda strange they don't give Users this option. But I'll live.

I know I'm starting to get excited for '13', because it's getting harder and harder to play '12'.

Agreed. They need to spread the ratings out.

Never really been into BAGM but if all those things play out how they say they will, I might be able to get into it.

If the team management aspect is truely fixed this will REALLY hope the enjoyment of this mode. I don't see myself playing alot of online GM.

He's saying that the overalls being so close for each player makes them all play the same. I think the skating engine didn't help matters and NHL 13 we should see more of a difference in players. I think as long as they made attributes mean more in the key areas for each type a player, that would also help make each player feel different. Overalls really mean nothing.

And if the depth of the Strategy AI comes as delivered, we should see a lot more variety in team styles. That's my hope anyway!

# 19 jyoung @ 06/02/12 06:19 PM
It's not just the overall ratings that are the largely the same, but also, the individual attribute categories.

Look at all the NHL goalies, for example, and you'll notice there's hardly any distinction at all between the different save categories for each goalie (five hole, glove saves, stick saves, etc.).

Goalies don't have any real strengths or weakness, they are just generically rated across all the different save attributes.

so pumped for this even more now.

downside, have to play an 82 game schedule. sigh!! buuut, with the dedicated guys i know and play in leagues with we will make this work for sure!!

the one thing that stood out though, as its all coded to a 82 game schedule and advancing of the league in three-day, one-week, or two-week periods.

i wonder what that means with the advancing though?

like how many games on the schedule will be available to play at once? thats some important info left out for now, just curious how this will work bc it will obviously effect how we do things.
