NHL 13 News Post

GameInformer interviewed NHL 13 producer, Andy Agostini and posted 30 details you need to know about the revamped GM mode in NHL 13.

Quote:
  • This new GM Connected mode features a full 82-game schedule and can run for up to 25 years.
  • Users can play GM Connected in several ways, including a solo league against the CPU AI, standard versus, co-op, six-on-six online team play, taking the role of a general manager, or as a coach who handles line changes and team strategy.
  • Though some outlets (including us) criticized NHL 12 for having too many players rated 80 and above, EA is content with its current ratings system and believes that by surfacing the six player traits instead of three it will be easier for players and AI GMs to better understand a player's true value.

same here...although this is great addition for people who love to play online. my only concern is that with this addition of ONLINE option, EA will not address the OFFLINE issues of BeGM

Some of the important things im looking for NHL 13 before making the decision if i want to get it or not:
1. Management (developing players etc.)
2. Schedules (my 2nd year my team has to play 5 CONSECUTIVE games and the AHL affiliate has the exact days in the playoffs iwht my NHL team...),
3. PLAY (goalie's annoying move to chase the puck and then suddenly abandoning his intention)
4. Controls (like changing lines...MOST of the time, u have to press the RT to go to the right player you want to control)

i like doing the draft....although im excited that they expanded the criteria in the drafts (making it 3 to 6) but somehow disappointed with #8, CPU will do the draft for me based on my lineups. does this mean i cannot change my choice in Round #3 of the draft...that sucks!

26. like how many games on the schedule will be available to play at once?
However many your team is actually scheduled to play in that time period. The tick length only affects how many games are available to play during that portion of the schedule; the actual time / decision on when to advance is informal and happens whenever the CM and GM's agree is best for everyone. (1 day, 5 days, 2 weeks, etc.).

Ok, I can get past the draft stuff for this year, but I really don't like the 82 game schedule. We need to have a custom season length for crying out loud. Heck last gen games had it. I'm still hoping its in there.

Love this...

In past NHL games, when a player went down the AI would make wholesale line changes instead of just plugging a scratched player into the hole. Now the AI is smart enough to make individual moves without completely revamping the entire lineup. It will also make player valuations to determine the best fit when a player goes down. A right winger may switch to center if the next center in the minor league is significantly worse.

30. The AI is also smarter about using enforcers. In previous games their high strength ratings made them likely candidates to be automatically placed on the penalty kill. Know the AI knows that these players are specialists and will play them on (and keep them off) appropriate lines.

I think it would be really cool and push the boundaries of realism a little higher if next year they do work on the crowd and make the crowd totally aware of where the puck is by the movement of their head in direction usually for the fans who sit in the middle or by the glass so those who use replay to check out a sweet play or in the highlights for the end of the game or maybe even in a segment like what NCAA FOOTBALL 13 will feature. They already do a good job cheering than any other sports game I've seen, and would add just a small part in that real realism factor.

Almost rioted about drafting until I saw:

16. If you want to keep your GM experience offline, you still have that option. Doing so will allow you to make your draft selections like in past NHL games.
Crisis averted!

Thank goodness. It only took 10 years or so to fix, right?

ah ok, so, the 3, 7, and 14 are the options for how many weeks in game we have available to play? kind of like a flex schedule of sorts but just 2 weeks worth max.

so, a commish can open up two weeks worth of the schedule per team, say first two weeks of October. then he can advance the league to two more weeks when he wants, say 3 days or 5 days. but no matter what, it wont advance until the commish does it himself, just like NCAA's Dynasty?

I had the same reaction about losing the draft until I saw offline we can still draft (I have no interest in online playing anyway).

I loved seeing:
"28. The trade engine is now much more granular than it was in the past. If you want to tell teams you are looking for a first-line forward between the ages of 27 and 30, you can do that. The GM Brains also have a much better idea of what players they are willing to trade."

The NHL series has always been a chore for me to find the player I want to obtain (since the ability to view stats and rosters has always been deficient). If I can get teams to offer players I am looking for by attribute, things are looking good! Now if I can just see the stats/awards/history of any player, then we'll have hit gold!!

Sounds good!

another thing with this mode that seems great is if an owner will be out of town for a week or two, vacation etc, he can let us know and he can still set up his team prior to leaving or even on the app while away. the league wont have to hold up and wait for him if they chose not to. since its an 82 game season, need to keep things moving at a solid pace for everyone. so, with that said, whoever has to play the owner thats away they can play vs the cpu and they will play how he wants them to strategy wise, line wise etc.

one problem with that is, what level to play on? if they even give us an option. if you miss some games the cpu team shouldn't over power the other user like the cpu does offline at times on allstar or superstar.

all in all, still fired up for this. cant wait to play a ton of seasons with my EASHL team guys.

I'm hoping that by adding the online mode they are forced to address those offline issues.

Sad to read that they think the ratings are good as they are. Hopefully the changes they have planned are enough to make players and teams feel differently.

Anyone know if we will have custom sliders available to us in Online GM ?

# 36 patsfan188 @ 06/03/12 03:15 PM
I don't understand their reasoning to why we can't have online fantasy drafts. If people don't want to participate in a 45 round draft then don't, but at least give us the option to, what's so hard about that? In Madden I have went through a plenty of 48 round drafts (or whatever the length is), yes it takes a while, but Im sure a lot of people will still do it. Whatever, at least we got online gm.

I wonder if they actually decided to create a prospect generator that can assign names that actually make sense, or are we going to be scouting more draft prospects named Russell Jackson from Belarus, or seeing lottery picks named John White from South Korea?

Okay...feeling new here because I haven't been on these NHL boards in quite some time. Just started reading about this GM Connectivity mode. Just a few questions:

They say you can still play this against an AI controlled league. So wouldn't that just be the offline mode?

And when they say you can be GM and / or coach...if you're "coach" does that mean you just call the plays and DO NOT control the players on the ice? (Like the Manage only mode in MLB the Show?)

Thanks.

Correct on the offline mode deal. From the sounds of it, they're trying to do away with the differentiation of online and offline mode. Just meld the two together and be done with it. That's been a major thorn for Madden recently, with the lack of love for online franchise. Looks like EA wants to just bring it all into one game mode.
