with pre-order purchase, including all-new Sprite Slam Dunk Contest mode

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May. 30, 2012-- 2K Sports today announced that NBA® 2K13, the next installment of the top-rated NBA video game simulation franchise* for twelve straight years and the follow-up to the award-winning NBA 2K12, will be available on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 in North America and October 5, 2012 internationally for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system, Wii™ system and Windows PC. A Wii U™ version of NBA® 2K13 will be available in the launch window, at a later date.

Fans that pre-order NBA 2K13 for the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 will receive a new downloadable NBA All-Star content package presented by Sprite. This add-on content will be set in Houston, the site of the 2013 NBA All-Star Game and will allow fans to stage their own NBA All-Star Game, including three NBA All-Star events - the Foot Locker Three Point Shootout, BBVA Rising Stars Challenge, and the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest featuring all-new intuitive, pick-up-and-play controls.

“The NBA All-Star package is our way saying ‘thank you’ to fans for their ongoing love of the NBA 2K series,” said Jason Argent, vice president of marketing for 2K Sports. “This content provides a ton of depth and value to our fans, and it’s just the beginning of a lot of big news about NBA® 2K13.”

Gamers can pit the NBA’s current superstars against classic players in both the Foot Locker Three Point Shootout and Sprite Slam Dunk Contest. Rosters for both the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge and 2013 NBA All-Star Game will feature the 2012 All-Stars, with dynamic updates to the 2013 rosters once the participants are announced.

Developed by Visual Concepts, a 2K Sports studio, NBA 2K13 is not yet rated by the ESRB and will be available on October 2, 2012 in North America and October 5, 2012 internationally. The Wii U version of the title will be available during the holiday season. Fans are encouraged to pre-order now at participating retailers in order to receive the NBA All-Star content on day one at no extra cost.

It's all speculation at this point but I think there's a good possibility you're right, considering how 2K handled last year's DLC. Then again, to take an optimistic view, NBA Live also used to allow legends to be pitted against currents in their dunk contests.

Speaking of Live, one of the really small aspects I liked about their dunk contest: the ability to choose any of my players's current, retro, or practice jerseys. I'm hopeful 2K13 doesn't force players to wear specific jerseys.

Nice addition I guess. But I already lost my interest in the dunk contest since VC won it few years ago. It's not the same. RL or in Game.

Will further details on All-Star Weekend be released in the near future? Or will this be a situation where we must wait until the pre-release developer diaries?

The way how the legends were handled last year I wouldn't count on it. We had a HUGE thread just so we can add the missing legends for there respective teams. A damn workaround but then later on we had to purchase the DLC so we can just add the missing players....

I would expect that this will be like some stand alone where it's another option like the Blacktop mode.

Also I'm not seeing the PC version listed for the All Star mode...;.

Count on it not being in it either. They never deliver DLC to us PC gamers. If this ASW thing is as good as advertised, I may switch to the PS3 version. But even then, this thing should be apart of the regular game.

Pretty standard, not surprised. It's still a cool announcement for some people I guess.

Unless this makes it into season, association, and MP modes where it should be this is pretty unimpressive to me. I'm all for All-Star Weekend being standalone also, but really what is the point of an All-Star Weekend if it doesn't make it into the correct game modes that actually utilizes the All-Star break. Another thing is why does this have to even be a pre-order bonus...this is a part of the NBA it's not some onetime event so the fact this it's a dlc is just disheartening and makes no sense and 2K should know better than this.

On another note I hope they get rid of those hideous uniforms in the Rising Star Challenge and put the players in there original team jersey's like it's suppose to be.

2K was smart on this one though, forcing people to pre order the game now, and if you don't you will have to buy this mode later....

Anyway if this has nothing to do with MP or Association then its not relevant to me... I hated the way the Dunk Contest was in blacktop mode so I hope they redid it to be more like Lives!

But we have all summer and fall for info so I guess I will sit back and watch!

How I loathe "downloadable content" and pre-order specials. Focusing on making money the wrong way with Madden-esque gimmicks. Make a great game and the pre-orders will come! I got my eye on you 2k. For those who think oh it's only $5 that you already were going to pay that's exactly how they want you to feel as business men, but the overall point is they are devauling something on purpose to make extra money. It is obvious that the all-star mode could be in everyone's game. That is fact. So they are obviously supressing things for money.. also known as ripping somebody off. This is just bad publicity to me because the excuse is everyone does it so we have to also to keep up. This is the Madden theory, taking stuff out of games to put in later. Like making something as bare as possible so that you have the core to base all your additional (DLC) or future (newer versions) purchases on. All the same ideas. It's smart in a money sense but you are sacrificing dignity for those extra bucks in the eyes of somebody who understands the dynamics. Most don't though and don't care to ever understand it, so it works.

This is the type of two-faced business talk that rules our government too and it makes me sick. You just made a game mode and are telling people they will have to pay extra for it if they don't want to pre-order. So you're holding me hostage over $5? I guess I should say I appreciate the gratitude of NBA 2k for even making a new mode and not just releasing last year's game with new rosters! So gracious of you 2k. You better slow your role 2k. The government has woken people up!

I have been told it will also be available internationally.

lets hope more info is available soon maybe around e3 when devs and publishers are in hype mode for their respected IP's and start talking/showing what they accomplished so far in their dev cycles .... and maybe then we will get to find out how integrated the ASW is into the game and maybe just maybe some added info we can look forward to come NBA 2k13.

as far as ASW announcement goes am not overwhelm about it nor am i disappointed...for those of u who r great am glad u feel that way and for those of u who were not for ur own personal reasons ....am glad ur expressing it but maybe we should just give them time to feed us more info..after all its just an announcement......i say lets give em time and wait for the insights

I am not impressed. This used to be in the game. Taken out for no reason. Come back in a few years and make it a selling point. No one is buying your bull**** 2K.

I was hoping for something new and different like TNT presentation.

This sucks.

Could just wait until next March for the inevitable GOTY edition for $39.99 including all DLC. Plus all the "bugs" should be worked out by then.

Yeah. I guess we all shouldn't have gotten our hopes high. I thought that maybe 2K will surprise us and gives us something that affects the way we play or something that we notice every game, such as a gameplay change or new presentation elements. But no, that would be too much for 2K.

Granted, I'll still buy the game day one, but this is starting to make me mad.

# 78 infam0us @ 05/30/12 01:11 PM
If you are going to do something as dumb as this might as well ad on the Haier shooting challenge and the skills challenge. Make it seem like you are actually bringing something new to the table and not recycling stuff.

“The NBA All-Star package is our way saying ‘thank you’ to fans for their ongoing love of the NBA 2K series,” said Jason Argent, vice president of marketing for 2K Sports.

Thanks a lot...
