How about this? Everyone doesn't have money to pre-order it! Plus, it should be in the game to begin with!

@TrapStar215 Well what if I pre-order the game and end up not liking it? Some people prefer to rent the game beforehand in case they don't like it. Sure you could get the demo first but if I pre-ordered it because that would be the only way to get All Star weekend and I ended up not liking it and never played it again that would be a waste of 5 bucks.

Was it confirmed that this isn't apart of association? Haven't read through the whole thread so I don't know if it was already answered.

From what I've seen, there has been virtually no follow up information on All-Star Weekend. A portion of 2K13 is due to be televised being played on Monday night. They mentioned All-Star Weekend would be shown briefly at that point. Until then, I don't plan on hearing too much information in its regard.

there been a lot of websites posting this but this one i just found but we have to wait until e3 to see what 2k say then. One interesting piece was that cpu gamers will not get this mode at all from what it said

You do get the point that they want you to buy the game right, and not rent it, you do realize how a business work right, you do understand they are in the business of making money right, so adding an incentive to buy a product early is a smart business move that a lot of companies do right.

It took me a few days, but I finally figured...the obvious. This announcement is more like a no-nouncement. Then some of us (many?) would say: "That's the big announcement? Give me a break!". Which is what 2K is all about - not releasing info early, but this year, maybe because of Live, they probably needed something to start with.

I have a feeling the AllStar weekend is the new "calf sleeve" thing (just to use something I'm familiar with very well). 2K finally has it, but that's nothing, wait for the REAL stuff.

Releasing "real" info without anything major. Is that what you're doing, 2K?

don't let them win - buy a pc and get 2k13 cheap. and when i say cheap i mean zero USD, ya heard?
the pc had it for free, it wouldnt be so much of a problem if they weren't ranked all that does is promate stat boosting.

the sad part the old socom games let you make rooms for free

This should not be a feature. It should be expected.

How the hell does it seem suspect? Mate your being stupid, they add a brand new fun mode to the game which fans have been asking for and doesn't cost you anything extra and yu call it suspect.

What a twat.....

I find it quite disturbing that the first thing we learn about 2k13 is that they're bringing back ASW. ASW is part of the NBA season, and has been for decades. Thank you for including something that should have been there anyway, and something 2K never gave an explanation for taking out.

Also, why is it add-on content? I'm led to believe it won't be integrated into any of the game modes. As someone that plays MP 99% of the time, if ASW isn't included in that mode, I have no use for it. Furthermore, considering it hasn't even been hinted at for the PC version, I am all the more convinced this is just something "tacked on" to quiet down all the people that have been asking for it.

Is this a sign that 2K and EA are switching roles? The first thing EA showed off for Live 13 was the "smart" passing (still have mixed feelings about it). You know, something GAMEPLAY related. And what does 2K show off first? "Hai Guyz! We Haz ASW Nao!!".

I love 2K, but I want to know about the gameplay. Show me how you fixed the double teams, the passing, rebounding, etc. I want to see improvements/advancements in things that matter to REAL bball fans, not some gimmick to get me to pre-order.

You do realize it is June and this is 2k not Live. 2k never gives us too much information early, and it's an add on just to get people to buy the game early, most game companies no it now. I get is inconvient for some but it makes perfect sense from a business stand point for 2k and they have not been forthcoming with how this feature is to be intergrated into the game, maybe we will learn that info tonight.

To be fair, I think NBA Live has a lot more groundwork to cover. Essentially, everything they show will be something new in some respect.

Traditionally speaking (at the risk of repeating myself), basketball games are not revealing their core features at the beginning of June, four full months prior to release. This is typically a time where if a game is featured at a festival (such as E3), there will be some general sweeping statements about the upcoming iteration, maybe a fluffy draw (cover athlete, pre-order announcement) and some game footage of a playoff matchup that ends up looking like the previous year's game because their builds are still much too young to truly represent the new game.

Also, I'll be quite disappointed if the All-Star Weekend is a stand alone feature (i.e. not tied in to Season, Association or My Player). From the early indications, it doesn't seem as if it's going to tie in, but it'd be nice if it did. That said, I still feel including the ASW is progress. To write it off as, "ASW is part of the NBA season, and has been for decades. Thank you for including something that should have been there anyway, and something 2K never gave an explanation for taking out" is a little harsh. They never had a true All-Star Weekend to begin with and if I had to guess, the streetball dunk contest and 3pt. shootout were likely removed as a part of the ASW re-tooling process.

I suppose I just don't think real-life NBA things are a foregone conclusion to appear in NBA 2K. For instance, when David Stern was added to the NBA Draft, my first thought wasn't, "Yeah, great job 2K. Great job at including something that's been a part of the NBA since 1984 and should have been there anyway."

I understand the disappointment that'd come along with not being able to use the All-Star Weekend in other modes. I don't understand the bitterness at the supposed audacity of 2K including an All-Star Weekend now because they should have before now.

One, it was never part of the game to begin with. I assume you're referring to Blacktop mode, which as I posted before many people here wanted them to remove years ago because THEY saw no value in it.

To my knowledge most games don't offer the full All-Star package as part of their respective games. For example, I don't know if they do QB or skills challenges anymore during the NFL Pro Bowl, but I'm just about positive all Madden offers is the Pro Bowl itself In baseball, I know games offer the All-Star game and the Home Run Derby, but don't think they offer legends games or whatever else goes on during that period. I'm not even sure Home Run Derby is even integrated into the franchise mode of the baseball games. I don't know about the hockey or soccer games. It'd be nice to have ASW as part of the various gameplay modes but I don't think people should be making blanket statements that it's useless if it isn't part of franchise, My Player, etc.

ASW isn't that big a deal to me. But as a preorder incentive it does make me more likely to preorder than not. I wouldn't expect it to be integrated into the games' various play modes if only because it'd be difficult from a programmatical standpoint. The real NBA suffers from not having top tier players get involved with the slam dunk competition for example. Given how much people here cry about needing realism, I don't think there'd be a lot of enjoyment playing the mode with mostly B-listers. Either way I just don't see it as being all that easy to program for. And given with any misstep there's the potential many people would declare the mode useless anyway, I don't know that it makes sense to dedicate resources attempting to get it to work in the various game modes in the short term.

# 239 Colts18 @ 06/04/12 11:18 AM
Why is this so hard to understand? 2K fans have been craving a real all star weekend for years and when they finally deliver it, it isn't even part of association mode. What is so hard to understand about the idea that people want to play it during association mode and not as a stand alone mode? Yes it matters that it is a stand alone mode. That is not what people wanted. So they are upset. Simple math.

I understand what you're saying. And no, I don't expect 2K to spill the beans on 2k13 this early. However, the fact they chose this big announcement to say ASW is now in the game smells of them trying to get the casual gamer to buy in right away, before revealing anything the more hardcore among us care about.

Also, you must remember that NBA 2K is looked at as the #1 NBA simulation game out there. So yes, there are certain expectations that come along with that rank, one of them being ASW.

I think I would be more excited if ASW was actually integrated into the game modes (Association and MP at the very least), and not some tacked on gimmick to try and boost pre-orders.
