NCAA Football 13 News Post

TSO's David Shad has posted his NCAA Football 13 hands-on impressions, from a recent community event he attended.

Below are a few things he mentions, click here to read the rest.

Quote:
  • If the receiver doesn't see it he won't make the play—Same for the defense on ball play.
  • DB/WR interaction is great, very realistic, doesn’t stick like glue and run step for step with the receiver
  • OLine/DLine interaction is tuned (not overhauled). The offensive linemen extend and grab, slide accordingly as well with the defender. Great playaction play is back for ’13!
  • Neat and new team celebrations between plays...not just an individual anymore (seemed like only “team” celebrations were TD’s in ’12). Guys will hug and jump bump midair. Especially on big downs or plays.
  • Screens have been improved (slip, wide, and middle). The linemen react and block much better, and do an excellent job going down-field leading a back.
  • Good and accurate pocket depth/presence will be rewarded. If you are dropping back too deep the ball loses power and accuracy will be lost.

Same with the Passing game - one of my biggest issues.

My question now is about animations. I know about the new catches - which is awesome - but how about other animations overall? Like how many new tackling animations are we talking about? Or even just new animations in general.

Thanks guys!
Hey PVarck31

I touch on these on pages 3 and 4 in the link below sir.

Good question and the answer is YES! Now I did experience the dive catch in NCAA Football '12...you had to manually do it and you performed the animation/attempt at a stretched out dive using the square button (PS3).

Now in '13 I was testing on a Xbox but yes the dive catch is in but I had to User catch to do it from my experience. There were a few that seemed a bit too out stretched so I submitted it for review as well so it possibly could be tuned a bit better.

Yes on the animations for catches as well.....all the different ones stand out to you and you begin to realize how quickly they add up..for example

On a simple comeback route now a WR depending on how the ball is coming to him can be caught SO MANY WAYS....down low and out...down low and in...out in up....him driving himself back towards the ball mid air extending out life in real life to make a grab and then cutting back up field.

It get's me pumped just thinking about it in all honesty...lol. If I were the one doing that first game play release video I would have done the comeback because it looks so damn sexy.

In the tourney I played amongst others several were being very aggressive @LOS and when I sensed a heavy blitz I was generally checking to a comeback on the outside and getting beautiful 8~10 yard snags.

So does this mean that my A.I. WR's won't dive for the ball if I don't take control of them?

I'm one of those guys who doesn't use user catches against the CPU because it's just too much of an advantage over them. Also, if the answer is yes, then I assume that the CPU wideouts will not dive for the ball either. I hope that I'm wrong, but I'm starting to get worried.

I have a question for David or Shaun.

When you use turbo behind the line of scrimmage, does the CPU still automatically disengage the block with the O-line?

TSO guys:

Did you play against the CPU much or was it all versus other live players?

If against the CPU, is psychic CPU playcalling fixed?

Good question that I cannot answer because I user catch all my passes practically. I remember the CPU making plenty of it's own different animations but I cannot pinpoint the dive one.

I played most my games vs the CPU and I probably played about 8 Live games vs another community member.

I did not experience much of an issue from the CPU playcalling when I was there.

@ShaunLMason Can you address custom playbooks. I know they showed it so can u speak on it? If u can can u speak on formation audibles? Can we choose them now? What about positions? Is there true weak side, strong side positions?

Can someone please put this guy out of his misery, and by that I mean unceremoniously escort him from the "building".

Except you are asking exactly what's been asked 80 times on this site, not just in this thread. Also you might want to calm down with the personal insults.

Same old BS from the last 10 years with these EA football games.
Preliminary impressions talk about how great this years version is so much better than any of the previous years; and then 2 weeks after release people start to realize it's a pig with lipstick

They can only respond to what EA has brought up in webcasts and blogs. So, no, they can't comment on equipment, no commenting on dynasty, and no commenting on RTG or Heisman.

They can comment on sounds, commentating and game play only.

Other than that, they are held to a NDA.

That is correct.

Also I see that players actually bite on PA this year. If I tell them to play the pass do they bite still?

Sorry if this has been asked already, but has the way punts bounce been improved?

Can't even get basic aesthetics right....sock glitch for the 5 str8 years. And I bet the lineman still will not do their blocking assignments properly. We don't give a flip mascot games or every single teams specific entrance, just get the atmosphere and the game play up to par-at least! Or just quit...and let another company get a shot at it.

This seems slightly contradictory.

Not too happy about this new juke move I'd much rather have the small juke than this new arcade juke.. *sighs*
