NCAA Football 13 Interview - Sights and Sounds

We recently had a chance to interview NCAA Football 13 Designer Christian McLeod and Producer Ben Haumiller.

All questions were submitted, but not all of them could be answered at this time, due to coverage in the coming weeks. This interview only focuses on the sights and sounds of NCAA Football 13.

	Will we hear crowds reacting correctly in given situations, for example on 3rd downs, crucial plays, TD's, interceptions, fumbles, big hits, etc.? Yes. The crowd content and system is an area where you will hear some great improvements. Based on the recordings that were done and the new crowd mix implemented by our Audio Director, Aaron Janzen, you will be hearing the crowd swells react appropriately throughout the game. What about playing in large stadiums, compared to smaller ones? Adding on to that question, will we hear much of a difference between full stadiums vs. stadiums with smaller crowds? Yes, you will notice a difference between these stadiums. We made an effort to record assets at small, medium, and large stadiums throughout last season. We even attended a high school game to ensure our crowds sound as authentic as possible depending on where you play. Will crowds vary as far as regular season games, rivalry games, bowl games, and neutral site games? Speaking of neutral site games, will the crowd react to both teams, instead of recognizing the "home" team exclusively? Yes, the crowd behavior is driven contextually, and the type of game being played is part of that. We have the ability to drive different crowd reactions based on home / neutral / away.

how about the question of will dirty uniforms (mainly whites not getting dirty at all but colors did) return since they were broken with the 1st patch in '12 and never returned. the funny thing is they said theyd look into it for the 2nd patch but never another peep or an admission that it was broken.

I'm thinking it more along the lines of Madden moments with a twist. Instead of replaying a certain situation in various games, you select a former Heisman winner and try to either relive their season & beat their stats or relive a specific game & try to capture their "signature" Heisman moment.

Honestly it could be like the mode in the new Tiger Woods 13 where you get to relive all his accomplishments or it could be Madden Moments pt.2 for the NCAA.

If it's similar to the last paragraph, NBA 2k had something similar last year with Jordan moments and that was very popular.

If it was like 2k's "my player", I wouldn't mind it. But I highly doubt it - that would require some serious development work to put something like that. This seems to be more of an "add-on" versus all out game mode. Im just speculating though...we will find out eventually

It is unfortunate that once again EA has failed to implement the chain gang in the game, but yet they say they want to be authentic to real life. The chain gang should have been implemented this year rather than having someone parachute into the stadium and other presentations that will be skipped after 7 days of release. Additionally, with regards to sights, the predator moon dreads appear to be in this years game once again...SMH

Just confirmed from yesterdays EA podcast, Haumiller stated, that updating the sidelines during gameplay (dynamic sidelines) will be "difficult" to upgrade this generation. Therefore the question concerning the sidelines for any upcoming iterations can be put to rest...finally...

Its not how they say it, come on, its the fact that the same questions every year get the same response. Every year we ask for the same things and every year we get the response of maybe next year.

Yeah I also remember Ian Cummings making this statement when Madden 10 was coming out. Everything would have to be scaled back and downgraded.

A mostly honest interview but history suggests that 'didn't make it into this years game' equals 'it never will make it into the game'.

I expect the game will have some great crowd/game sounds, commentary will be initially fresh but become repetitive quickly, while visually there will be few if any major changes from a broadcast presentation perspective.

This interview was misleading in a way. Instead of sights and sounds, it should have just been called "audio" interview because that is pretty much the only thing they talked about all week long.

I see they keep dodging certain questions that definitely falls under SIGHTS.

1. Field degradation

2. Dirty uniforms

3. The size of the football

4. The look of the grass on field. Last year's grass fields looked terrible.

5. Fixing the upside down logos in the middle of the field when you are playing coach mode.

April 17th can't come soon enough for me. It better blow my mind, bring a tear to my eye and have me screaming like a girl who just seen the latest Twilight movie.

Another question that has been avoided for the 5th straight year is camera angles?..Wich in my experience usually means that there are no new camera angles.I know that there were several posters that asked the camera angle question for this interview and not one of them were answered.incredible!!..Maybe gameplay will blow our mind..but the direction this game is going is baffling to me..

Yeah the podcast confirmed no new camera angles.

6. Has the Overly Blue color saturation for some Indoor Stadiums been fixed(Cowboys Stadium, Lucas Oil Field, University of Phoenx Stadium)

I like how they are adding presentation and tradition things but how can they say they have authentic espn presentation without starting lineups? This is something that needs to be in and would be a lot better becasue they would change more and be less repetitive with different players starting. Why they didnt take 2 weeks to do this instead of the stupid usc and texas cheerleaders is beyond me and I think we all probably would rather have more team entrances than the same two teams that get fixed every year,

They mentioned a mystery commentator... Could this be the return of Lee Corso. Or maybe CBS' Vern Lundquist? Im guessing L. Corso.

I definitely don't get it. I skip the entrances after I've seen them. You know what I would pause to look at every time? The starting lineups. I don't know why but I just love seeing that stuff. Plus, I use it to do a sort of quick scout on the other team. What else would I stop and watch? Some commentary about the coaches. "And here is Coach X, new to the program, but successful with a 35-18 record at his first stop at ULL. We'll see what he can bring to the SEC." What do I want to do without? Cheerleaders. If they're not real, they're not worth looking at.

It means they aren't getting in. It has always meant that in years past... Dodge the tough questions until about 2-3 weeks prior to release and then tell us "it's not in, but next year"

LOL, this game is once again going to be a hollow, incomplete experience.
