ESPN's Jon Robinson has posted his MLB 12 The Show hands-on preview, as he talks about the new Pulse Pitching, Zone Analog Batting, collision awareness and much more.

Quote:
Another big gameplay improvement comes in the form of the new "Pulse Pitching" dynamic. If you're not a fan of last year's analog pitching, you can go back to the old-school buttons, only with a new level of intensity that really helps up the challenge of pinpointing pitches. Basically, after selecting your pitch and location, you'll need to hit X to pitch the ball (same as classic pitching). Only now, there is a giant pulsating X on the screen in the location of your pitch, and you need to time your button press when the X is at its smallest point in order to throw the ball accurately. The more you're off, the bigger the X will be when you throw the ball, making your pitch wild, or even worse, left hanging right over the plate for someone like Albert Pujols to crush over the fence. I was a fan of the analog pitching last year, but I have to say, after about four games of switching back and forth between the analog and the pulse, I ended up playing the rest of the games with the pulse pitching and I don't think I'll go back to the analog once the game ships. It just feels right to me.

I know that guys(community here on O.S.) wanted to see more playoff push teams trading prospects for vets and vice versa.
I have always felt that MR were valued to high(both in teams wanting them and $$$ they get)
I'm sure they are working on these aspects of franchise(FA/trades/$$$) right up until the last minute.
It's the toughest part of any sports game IMO.

Thanks, kind of a tough question. I dont know what kind of answer I really expected. I know these guys work really hard. Its gotta be tough to try and put a product out there that makes everyone happy. That is an unrealistic expectation; you cant please everyone. It must be especially annoying to work so hard and have someone like me blast them for not addressing my personal concerns regarding the game when The Show ships all across the country. But hey, squeky wheel gets the oil.

Pass along my thanks for all their hard work.

i hope so.
some guys made some great fictional rosters for mlb 11, but it was way too much work for them.
I hope there is an option for fictional rosters this year.

Exactly Owl, nothing so strange as real life, but quirky things like that, they arent allowed to happen in video game world

It wasnt that they happened, but rather the frequency with which they happened.

And the Kazmir deal was a Mets trade, which means a computer AI or an amphibian could have made a better decision.

I hope they were able to get at least two announcers in a booth together for some authentic back and forth style commentary. Even if you hear the same lines over again, the natural cadance at least allows it to turn into background noise that you can just tune out instead of somewhat robotic lines.

But not a thing they talked about sounded lame. All good to hear. And hearing that RTTS has your player being trated like a top prospect, to me, must mean that they won't call you up to the next level to rot on the bench and be expected to meet those benchmarks with sporadic at bats and only starting once every 5 games or so.

In all fairness, people are fed up with the "trade" logic, not the FA signing logic. I'm sure many people wouldn't disagree with these signings in their franchise. Its when the Angels trade Jeff Mathis and a C prospect for Pujols or 2 no-names for C.J. Wilson that people will cry foul. Now of course the game does not recognize names, but even if you go by attributes that is a ridiculous trade.

Well said, that is the point I was trying to make. I never cared where free agents signed. My complaint regarding FA is some of them not being signed at all due to financial issues in the game. I know the devs are working on it, and all the improvements coming to this year are quite staggering. March freakin 6th is so far away.

Knight,

I'm sure it would take truth serum to get anything from you except name rank and serial number but all I need is a few crumbs like will us roster guys be able to choose 8 teams in each league? This would be huge.

I know I'm just dreaming but how great it would be if we could send
our created players from 2011 to 2012 ? Maybe someday...

Thanks Bud,
scoot...

I doubt this. You're a Mets fan. And yet you're still staying silent.

Thank you Russel for being so kind and answering alot of questions being asked by everyone. I just have a couple questions for you if you don't mind?

I always have to play auto fielding because I am terrible at manual. I want to give it a shot again but with this new ball physics and the "increased ball speed" from the bat it doesn't appear I will be able to do so well with it. Did you guys do anything for manual fielding to make it easier??

And for auto fielding...how are the fielders reacting to the new ball physics on their own? Part of the reason why I like auto fielding are the animations I saw that I would never be able to pull off manually. Are there new fielding animations for auto fielding this year?

Lastly, I'm a classic pitching w/o the meter guy so this pulsating pitching thing is a dream come true for me! I loved classic pitching but always wished I had a little more control without the difficulty of analog pitching. With this new pitching system it sounds like I will get my wish. Thanks again and hope you can answer at least one of those questions!

It is a flaw that needs to be fixed.

Trade logic maybe not so much.
