ESPN's Jon Robinson has posted his MLB 12 The Show hands-on preview, as he talks about the new Pulse Pitching, Zone Analog Batting, collision awareness and much more.

Quote:
Another big gameplay improvement comes in the form of the new "Pulse Pitching" dynamic. If you're not a fan of last year's analog pitching, you can go back to the old-school buttons, only with a new level of intensity that really helps up the challenge of pinpointing pitches. Basically, after selecting your pitch and location, you'll need to hit X to pitch the ball (same as classic pitching). Only now, there is a giant pulsating X on the screen in the location of your pitch, and you need to time your button press when the X is at its smallest point in order to throw the ball accurately. The more you're off, the bigger the X will be when you throw the ball, making your pitch wild, or even worse, left hanging right over the plate for someone like Albert Pujols to crush over the fence. I was a fan of the analog pitching last year, but I have to say, after about four games of switching back and forth between the analog and the pulse, I ended up playing the rest of the games with the pulse pitching and I don't think I'll go back to the analog once the game ships. It just feels right to me.

Presentation And Commentary new features and improvments!!

But man I am loving everything else that has been talked about so far!
Most of the presentation and commentary gets added late in the process. Even when we have been to SCEA in January some of the elements were not in. So it is really hard to comment on this type stuff because they are probably not seeing much of the new planned for the game.

Is this system really as great as it sounds where if you manually could have two people run into eachother they physically could not go through each other?

Good to know

Good stuff. I was one of the ones who didn't care much about the collision detection (low on my priority list, anyway), but that's a nice addition. Ball physics, FA signing, and zone analog hitting are what grabbed me most from this article. Pulse pitching...we'll see. I liked analog A LOT, so I'm unsure the new scheme can pull me away. I'll check it out though.

Or like talented baseball players pass through the Mets disabled list?

Also when did the demo for 2011 come out last year? I seriously cannot wait to get my hands on a copy of this game.

Sounds fantastic but I am hoping so much that they sim 25+ seasons and check every offseason to make sure FA and finances aren't screwed up. Big name FA's sitting unsigned and that sort of thing. Has happened the last few years and seems like it is something that should be fixed. Looking forward to The Show '12

I think it was only a couple weeks before the release date.

I'm actually doing that right now :-)

Now I'm hoping that this year this has made it in there. But what they have listed seems amazing.

Ball physics by itself, if programmed correctly would give you a completely new game in itself, that right there is a game changer.

2 new training techniques in Road to the Show (baserunning, fielding), as you're now a Double-A starter who is the most touted prospect on the team

Does this mean you now start out as a Blue chip prospect in Road to the Show? Maybe I'm reading more into it than what there is, but if that's the case would seem to slow down being traded numerous times, and would start out higher rated than in the past.

Also I hope the new Trade Logic works out well....I got another game that said they fixed it and wow was it still a mess.

Toughest part of programming in the franchise section from what I hear from the devs....
I see it from their tweaks....push too much one way(say towards valuing prospects)....and too many vets just get moved/ignored...and vice versa.
I know they want to just rip the entire guts out of it and redo everything with no legacy code(ENTIRE FRANCHISE)....I just don't see that for this year, but I know they are tweaking the hell out of things we've complained about and it looks like even adding some things! Which I find very encouraging.

They definitely hear us on stats........I think we will get a lot of the things we've asked for....but I know that year to year ....full stat saves is a huge memory problem. Fingers crossed.

some good stuff there.....any chance a *playoff mode* gets in there this year?

I'm thrilled that they brought in analog zone hitting. I know I'll love the challenge of it. As many as you know usually I'm pessimistic around this time, but I'm loving the information flowing right now.

those are the things that wil get me to pick it up.
all 3 need to be improved for me.

so far it looks like two have been touched upon.
i don't think i can dive into that franchise mode with the menus as is, and without any sort of headline or news section.
i feel like i am playing in a vacuum.

The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence

The other game has an unbelievable amount of stats. There is no reason the other game can have so many stats..not only ones that can be called up but also are on display when batter walks up and I believe for pitchers pitching too...and SCEA not be able to do that. The announcers also discuss a lot of stats. The other game also has a lot more options for editing a player than in The Show. Let's hope they can at least duplicate the other game's stats. The one stat I don't think either game has is day/night stats. Be great to have them if there is a difference when playing the game.

The stride timing window has been opened up a bit to help compensate for the added difficulty. Also the games default pitch speed is a little slower than it has been in the past.

I too am interested in Pulse Pitching being a Classic pitching guy. The ball physics sound like a really nice addition. Now I haven't read every single post on this site but I was under the impression that it would be difficult to include collision detection. I guess this has changed over the past year?
