RIP, Raleigh... makes me wonder what went into considerations as to which umpires got their contract renewed and not...

Legendary but controversial MLB The Show umpire Raleigh McClure was killed today in an accident while trout fishing in the Krossied River. According to his fishing companion, famous eye surgeon Hugh G. Peepers, McClure was reeling in a trophy of a trout when he heard screaming from above. He turned just in time to see a hang glider, identified as Ibin Rooked, swooping down out of the clouds and striking McClure with a fatal blow. Peepers claims that he heard the man screaming...."you cost me a perfect game McClure!!!", but Rooked said he was only trying to warn the men of his impending crash.
Investigators are looking into the accident.
McClure, who created controversy with his first book "The Myth of the Stationary Strike Zone" was said to be working on a second tome. Notes were found in his nearby cabin with such interesting ideas like "People like to think the strike zone is a rigid rectangle. Nothing could be further from the truth. I liked to see it as a circle one day, triangle or trapezoid the next. Heck, one day when a batter had the nerve to argue a strike call, I made it into the shape of a Volkswagen Beetle for the heck of it! These guys have to realize, it's my world....they just happen to live in it."
McClure is survived by his wife Maggie, daughters Megan and Michelle and stepson Eric Summersgill who, following in his fathers footsteps, will begin his first season umpiring in MLB The Show.

If having sunglasses on the hat is an easter egg (and it would be a cool little detail to add) the game should include players making a fool of himself and losing it in the sun when the shades are right there. Nothing bugs me more (well lots of things do but for the purpose of this post I am going to exaggerate) then when an out is handed back to the batting team in the name of fashion.

I never understood wearing shades while batting. Any time Marvin Benard struck out, I said it was because he couldn't see.

NOOOOOO!

McClure, you will be missed. I hope your stepson can fill your shoes.

(Knight, that was a GREAT read, btw. I needed a good laugh after seeing Reyes sign with the Marlins)

The devil is in the details, for instance we have an entirely new tag animation system this year. That creates more dynamic and organic player iteration on the base paths and at the plate this year. Not a back of the box feature, but a pretty big addition none the less. We are showing the game to press for the FIRST time this week in NYC. So in the next week or so you will get to read about what we have been working diligently on for the past year. This years title has a combination of over 70 new features, enhancements, artificial intelligence improvements/re-writes, and additions.

So hold your horses there will be plenty of content to rejoice or complain about soon enough :-).

Anyway back on topic, returning umpires this year from previous versions of The Show are.
Earl Hendricks
Clyde (cross eyed) Washington
Dutch Nelson
Wally Hughes
Woddy Keller
Porter Callaghan

Your 14 new umpires are (all fictional)
Jeff Carlson
Marvin Knight
James Gibson
Tom Reyburn
CB Hernandez
Rusty Valentine
Kerwin Thompson
Eric Summersgill
Mike Winters
Joe MacDonald
Freddie Ferguson
Earl Cooper
Patrick Johnson
Is this the same Mike Winters who got suspended a few seasons back when he used profanity towards Milton Bradley? Got fined last year again when he confronted Matt Kemp and used foul language also. So much for the mention E for everyone on the CD cover! Lol

But seriously, I understand it's to us to discover those personalities but can we have a clue on what make them so different ? different strike zone is obvious but do some are more prone to errors or less patient to eject players ( and coach ? ) ?
I have been wishing for scouting reports on umps for a while. I don't want it rigid where we would see his specific zone but actually somewhat dynamic where you could go back and study the pitch analysis screen on his last 10 games to get a feel for what his interpretation of the zone could be for the up coming game.

It's like if you record an A cappella on Facebook, then a friend plasters it onto YouTube, and users start complaining that you should have used an instrument. Don't ask where that analogy came from.

Again, SCEA didn't come out with an article saying, "Yes, this is MLB 12: The Show, and this year we're featuring new back-of-the-box features such as 14 new umpire personalities, closing gloves, and new cleats. You're SOL if you were hoping for anything else new in this game." Their screenshots were intently to show new uniforms, and there were implicit changes within the screenshots that forum members picked out and Ramone verified. Unfortunately, so far, the sky does not appear to be one of them (though the on-field lighting does), although it is still early on and there has not been any sort of comment on the matter from the team themselves.

In time, we will find out more about this game. We're all eagerly impatient to hear what else there is to offer, and some members have already made that aware in this thread. The difference between their posts and yours is that they didn't shun the notion there was more that was worked on in this game.

totally agree.....dealing with a bad case of the Mondays---for about 10 days now.

sorry

carry on....

Very happy to hear about the 14 New Umpires now lets hope they also get to wear "Majestic Therma Base Umpire Jackets" for those Rainny, Snowy and Cold games and the playoffs.

That is of course if the MLB Guidelines allow it
