NCAA Football 12 News Post

NCAA Football 12 title update #4 details have been revealed and will be available on November 8th.

Hey Everyone, Ben Haumiller here with the announcement that Title Update #4 is targeted to be available on Tuesday, November 8th. Here are the details on what's included in Title Update #4:

Online Desync fix

We've fixed a desync that was occurring when performing pre-play adjustments from the 3-4 Under defensive formation.

Road to Glory

We've fixed an issue with the playcalling AI where running plays were called too often in situations where a passing play should be called. This was most noticeable when trailing late in a game with a running back RTG character.

Online Dynasty – Transfer Failed

There are a few different issues that are causing Transfer Failed notifications in Online Dynasties. The majority of people ran into this error when attempting to upload data (i.e. game result, recruiting info, etc.). The fix for this issue involved more than we could do on the server side alone, and that fix is included in this Title Update. There will also be a server deployment necessary to complete the fix for these Transfer Failed issues. At this time, it looks like that server deployment will happen shortly after the Title Update is available. Once we know the exact date of the deployment we will be sure to pass the info along.

As for the remaining Transfer Failed issues, we are continuing to investigate server side fixes for these issues.

This concludes what will be included in Title Update #4. Due to additional gameplay risk involved to fix issues related to prospect tendencies in Dynasty mode, we’ve decided to forego addressing via a Title Update. To provide a little background on the tendencies issue, there are some portions of the game that convert a value to get the correct tendency, while other portions do not make this conversion. We were able to fix the tendency issue in the portions of the game that do the conversions through the Title Update, however fixing the other instances would require modification of database data, stored procedures, and code. Rather than risk the potential for this fix to cause other major data issues in Dynasty mode, the decision has been made to apply the proper fix in NCAA Football 13. Thank you for all of your support throughout the year.

Honestly if this is all they are going to fix I would have definitely preferred they just leave it alone. Even though no gameplay issues are addressed, somehow aspects of gameplay will change with this patch which means more slider tweaking is ahead...

Cannot believe they are not going to address the secondary/zone/bump n run issues. Throwing anything deep is just cheese as it is.

As much as I am still enjoying the game, it is frustrating when a company will not even try to fix glaring obvious flaws with its product.

This. I'm really upset that EA is still not addressing the issues with the Custom Playbooks.

This just helps make my decision to take a year off of NCAA. Glad to they'll try to fix it in 13 but I can wait for 14 it will give me some time to mess with all the ratings and see how they truly affect gameplay.

i think that it's safe to say that many of us who have been loyal annual customers since NCAA Football 99 (for me) are well into our 20's and beyond at this point in our lives, and i DO think that there will be a significant number of hardcore fans that will not be picking up this title next year. the sad thing is that as the only college football choice on the shelf i'm sure they will still do just fine and turn a profit, but for people who are shaking their heads and fingers at us saying "oh just wait til next June, you'll be sucked in by the hype machine"

yeah no. not gonna happen. this disappointment will still sting for a long time. I used to pick up Madden every year, but after they went exclusive i only bought one copy, and that was two years ago, used, in like April or May. we can stay away. can we make a difference and send a message? probably not. but will we get the satisfaction of knowing that we're not supporting this BS. at least I will.

I didn't purchase NBA 2K12, and even at the urging of many to do so, I resisted the temptation. I'm glad I did...good game (from what I read) but not what I need as 2K11 gives me everything I want. I based my decision on the forums here, and though it's a good game, it's not even close to "perfect" like many wanted to believe it would be (and with historic team limitations, which is all I'd play, it wasn't worth the money). for once, I exercised self-restraint on a purchase.

I can guarantee next year that I will NOT be buying NCAA 13 on opening day, if at all. Again, it will take a LOT of restraint because I LOVE football... But this year's iteration was a joke, and I rarely play it. I want to, but it's a terribly flawed game that I really don't enjoy. If everyone would suck it up and hold back purchasing, MAYBE EA would get the picture. But too many here claim they will wait, but then end up coming back like sheep... $$$$ is the ONLY thing that will get their attention...

i just got the game a month ago. i have yet to really start a dynasty until the finish the patches.

i am irritated from what i read that the game will only allow tuners IF you get online pass. heck, i have the option not to ever use online pass if i want when i purchase the game outright. i didn't, but either way, i run a business myself and no one should be punished for my in house problems. patches are in house problems. for this, i think EA has really lost perspective on customer service at it's most basic level.

second: while i understand everyone's complaints and feel all are vital, i will start a dynasty this week to evaluate everything myself. if i like it, i will continue. if not, i will likely trade this in and play games i have enjoyed more.

nba 2k12, mlb 2k11, nhl 11 and PES are so much more enjoyable it is not funny. this is only the sports games. this does not even cover the myriad of other games people play, like COD or Portal, that are clearly better than the football titles.

the fact is, american's like football. our ridiculous addiction to us makes us buy these games despite the flaws. i do feel the grace period has ended for EA however. this game was returned faster than any i had ever seen at the local re-sellers. they got the initial crowd, but not as much after. next season will be very critical for this series.

Ok... Since everyone is saying they won't purchase NCAA 13 on release day or at all next year, put it in your little signature thingy under your posts and the date of writing it so we can hold everyone to their word.

It is also very noticeable with corners and safeties pass coverage abilities.
That makes sense. I'll buy it affecting HBs.

But what about every other position?

WR: speed v possession. Does a speed receiver that gets switched to possession suddenly run slower, but is catching better? (Not sure if this even happens...I thought it was just balanced getting switched to one of the non-balanced.) Or a possession gets switched to speed and suddenly runs faster, but is catching worse? Why are they not just playing to their ratings, regardless of their tendency?

Same for TE: blocking v receiving

OL: pass v run. On a run play, are pass OL using different run block ratings than a run OL?

DL: pass rusher v run stopper. This might be another position where it's somewhat affected, like HBs, with the Finesse v Power Moves.

LB: coverage v run stopper. Same as WR, TE, OL. Why aren't they all just playing to their ratings on every play, regardless of tendency? How would a coverage getting switched to run stopper suddenly be worse at pass coverage?

DB: coverage v hard hitter. Same as LBs

K/P: accurate v power. Shouldn't they be using their KPW and KAC on every kick anyway? What difference does their tendency make?

Yes, the bug is annoying and it should have been fixed. But outside of QBs, HBs, and maybe DL, I don't understand how it could have that much of an impact on gameplay for every position.

Yeah all this has done made me decide to just trade the game in along with a couple others. Batman Arkham City here I come.

Summed up my feelings. I haven't played it since August and am going to trade it in and put it towards Skyrim. Which I am sure will work pretty much just fine out of the box.

That's the Catch-22 with EA being the only company out there developing football games. It's the most popular sport, so when it gets towards the end of summer, we (as fans) begin craving anything associated with the sport, including the videogames.

Unfortunately, this generation has been an absolute waste when it comes to NCAA and Madden. I actually managed to not buy either game for 3 years, but jumped back in around Madden 10. I finished one year of franchise in 10, didn't get through a season in 11 and just picked up 12 and am already considering trading it in.

NCAA has been a little better from an enjoyment standpoint, but the game is far from perfect, as has been well documented here. Dynasty Mode at least presents more replay value than Madden, but the lack of quality presentation and on-field issues certainly hold the game back.

I just wish we'd see more innovation from EA. For all of those that bashed NBA Elite, I gave EA credit for at least TRYING something different. It's not always going to work, but it's nice to see companies at least thinking out of the box.

That's why I'm a sucker for 2K's MLB game. When compared with MLB The Show, the two games are pretty far apart. But, at least 2K did things differently than its competition and actually brought some nice innovation to the genre. The gesture pitching, dynamic commentary, stat overlays and MLB Today feature are GREAT additions to the game and are all done better than the competition. I'd much rather play a game like that, where there are at least attempts to do things differently, than to play a game that has been broken for years and changes very little, in terms of what we see on the field.

At this point, I'm ready to just give up on EA's football games this generation and just go back to playing my PS2 versions, because at least with those, I had fun and didn't feel like I was forcing myself to play a game just to play it.

I wish they'd tone down the LB's jumping up and swatting passes. You NEVER see this crap happen in real games, but it's common to see 5 or so of these animations in this game... frustrating.

# 135 fistofrage @ 11/02/11 01:41 PM
I am suprised more people aren't focusing on the fact that EA said they aren't going to patch the game in needed areas because it may break other things.

So EA has basically said:
1. They are incompetent and do not understand their own code. or
2. Screw you fans, we aren't going to fix our broken product, now start saving up for NCAA 2013.

I honestly think its both. They don't want to invest the time to do it right understand the effects of changes and make the features work as advertised, but expect their doormat sheep fans to line up next year to buy this garbage.

I never thought I would say this, but I hope they cancel the NCAA series in hopes of a new developer emerging in a couple years.

# 136 Rufus @ 11/02/11 02:01 PM
I agree, NCAA and Madden are both stale and I'm tired of the same ol stuff on both games. I hope someday new competition will emerge but I'm not going to hold my breath. I only purchased NCAA this year,(1st time in a few years) rented Madden (flawed IMO).

I doubt I will purchase either NCAA or Madden until the next cycle of consoles come out or they have competition.

I'm afraid though that the next NCAA and Madden games for the new consoles that EA will start out with very limited features so they can add features every year to milk the money from us year after year. Lets hope they make some really huge improvements on the next cyle of consoles, but we will see.

I completely agree with this, on all levels. At the very least the development team of NCAA needs to be completely overhauled. The guys there now just don't get it. Football or programming. That's a pretty bad 0 for 2 when you're making a football game.

I still think that probably the biggest issue is that high up in EA they have greatly downsized and understaffed the NCAA team, with complete knowledge of the fact that they can utilize the patching process to fix bugs.

Internet connectivity of consoles is the single worst thing that has ever happened to single player gaming.

So I finally get my new modem and router and I come back to find this? SMDH.

These football games current gen have no identity. No soul. What a shame.

Nothing's going to happen. People will still buy it. Sadly, this is what EA is counting on.
