Just played my first game and saw some great things. Like someone else said the skating feels better in this compared to last years. The loading times are amazing compared to last years lol. The thing that blew me away thus far was when I went for a hit and we both fell down and slid across the boards. No more superhuman checking and skating away. Also like how the audio is in the replays, but hopefully the audio in the full game is better but I don't doubt that.

LOL! That would be pretty funny if it was allowed actually!

I definitely think they toned down stick handling for lower rated players.

I was playing HUT, and when I had my 3rd and 4th liners out (some guys rated high 60's low 70's), whenever I would try any stick handling, sometimes as simple as moving the puck out to the side and pulling it back, they would lose control and have to circle back to get it.

Nice to see.

im having more fun being position locked, seems to play a better overall game of hockey. with slider tweaks this could be the mode i can actually get into now.
How do you player-lock in NHL? Do you select it before the game starts, or do you press a button during the game like in NCAA, where you press L3 to player-lock?

I know presentation and commentary isn't as important as the gameplay, and overall I know alot of you guys turn stuff like commentary off anyways. But for me its a huge immersion factor, and it seriously needs updating. It's stale at this point, we need a weekly wrapup show, or highlights from other games/ticker scores. Other games have done this for years (NFL2k5 etc) There's zero excuse that it's not in the NHL sku yet.
I'll sound pretty selfish but since I play all sports games with commentary off, I would say this :

1- Improve the presentation style so the graphical experience for your eyes make it feel like you're there. Make sure the crowd reactions are solid, the sound of the game solid and that the presentation is like what we see on every respected sports channel. Make us fell out of our chair. Make so great that for the next 2-3 years, you'll only have to fine tune it instead of having to come out with something brand new.

2- Work on the commentary over a long period. Simply say to your customer that next year you'll get the same commentary since we are working on a large and more defined comments for the NHL game. Find a pair of guys who work together and have been for a long time, try to get most of them. Use a Doris Burke like person who will explain what's going on between the benches. Give us someone who isn't talking about the plays but explain it.

For me, #1 would be the priority since the #2 could be turn off but there's nothing you can do with a lame presentation. When #1 is up there, you follow with a strong #2. Couple that with a strong gameplay and good AI programming and you have a title that will blast everything.

That's the way I see this aspect of the game, and to me, it's been lacking for a long time in the NHL game.

After playing about hour,I felt that I play the same game...
Improvement are nice, but it's really so little...
Love close shots, they look much more realistic.New puck physic has been felt. HUT is the same...

Definitely need to play the demo more than once to truly appreciate how good this game is. Gameplay feels smoother and more realistic. Loving the goal variety and new animations. Did anyone notice the shadowing on the nets now? nice touch

There's a BAP mode in the demo too.
Download it and give it a shot. You might like it.

The goal variety is the main thing that has sold the game for me. That drove me crazy last year.

I can see some variations of the skating it seems to be better. As for the game play it is somewhat IMO clunky and choppy but I think this stems from not being able to adjust any sliders. Two things I noticed is that when you are winding up to take a slap-shot from the point after carrying the puck the defense challenges you and some times strip the puck AI I suppose don't remember the defense being that aggressive in NHL 12. The other is that in the neutral zone the defensive players are working hard to get the puck away from you so you'll need some nifty passing. Left wing lock still appears to be absent as a defensive option. All in all I think they are moving in the right direction will have to wait for the real game for a verdict?

I would say that it will be worth no matter what the demo look like.

I say that simply because more often then not, people who aren't addict to the game won't be as picky and scrutinize the game as much people who are fan of the game will do.

I'm not a basketball fan, and NBA 2K11 while beeing a really strong game, received hard words and reviews from people who are following the game a lot. Same thing with Madden 11 who was pretty fun until I had NHL 11! :-)

NHL 11 as issues here and there, but I guess for the casual hockey gamers, it would be a great game to play.

I guess the problems start on the forums, we're over analysing everything!

I started out as a minimal hockey fan. I could name the top 5-10 players in the league. Always had fun watching the sport, but not near as much as with footbal. Don't necessarily live in a hockey "hotbed," but pulled for the Avs and the Stars.

Then I played NHL 09. Everything changed. This series blows all other sports games out of the water. Because of this game, I'm hooked on the NHL. I order NHL CenterIce and watch hockey non-stop now.

Reason being? The Be A Pro and Online Team Play mode is sooooo addictive. Makes RTG and Superstar modes in EA's football games look like childs play.

I recommend this game to anyone who is a mild hockey fan, but has had a lot of fun playing hockey games on Genesis and N64 in the past. It's to the point now, where I buy it every year on release day, without even looking at the added features, just to play EASHL.

Just that! Since I gave my refurbished XBOX to my friends and we played NHL 10 in OTP/EASHL, even if NHL 11 offline we're not what we expect, we're still playing the damn game in OTP right now and it's august.

For every 2-3 games that we have idiots and morons ruining the game, glitchers and cheaters, there's one game that made you feel like you're playing for the Stanley Cup and make you feel like a kid.

For both my friend and I, it's a no-no. If there's one online, and the other came on, it's straight to OTP. EASHL and OTP is what makes the game last all year long.

For all EA crap I can say about that game, the inception of EASHL was one of the brightess ideas and changed the way I play the game. In my life, it comes as the third best thing after my wife and the dishwasher.
