I got it this morning, I ran a few laps in a race at Vegas, the AI seemed to react alot different when you make contact with them, they feel a bit more stuck to the track, but still a bit easier to get loose (hard to explain) which was nice, and I didnt notice them slamming on their brakes coming out of the corners. I caused a wreck that in the past wouldn't lead to a yellow, and I got a caution. So far on 3 minor things, in 2 laps, I see some big improvements. So far so good, but to be fair, like I said I just ran about 2 laps. However now I got to go to work, so going to rely on some of you guys today for your impressions. I didn't seem to see the DLC anywhere though, I thought it was supposed to be released at the same time?
edit: In my quick few minutes with the patch it seemed ok, but reading some reviews after the patch from others playing it on the Eutechnyx forums, people aren't very impressed at all. I'm a bit concerned now, I hadn't played the game in a few months up until the quick few minutes this morning, so maybe that's why I thought I noticed things being "better" . On their forums though, there's an awful lot of people being negative I feel, just for fun to bash Eutechnyx. Hopefully some members here can run a few laps today and give some feedback

I am waiting for the PS3 patch but I just did a bunch of reading over at Eutechnyx's forums to see their impressions of the game with the patch. Let's put it this way, so far it is not shaping up too well as many of the issues are still in the game. Some fixed others not so much. Online is a problem as Dave said some are still playing the game without the patch. I would have to believe those who were online when the patch dropped are no longer on but I could be wrong.
DLC has not been released yet.

AI cars getting on and off pit road with no issues under green.
Nice to read that from their forums.

I raced a 2 40 lappers at Kentucky with a controller, and did one on hard, and one on very hard.
Race 1 hard
Pros
I did notice the cars were easier to spin out, and a caution flew every time it should have. The damage does look better overall, and I also saw AI cars taking all different types of lines.
Cons
There still seems to be a small pack of cars that slow down a decent amount at the bottom of the front stretch. I also lapped the whole field in 40 laps and was extremely easily...so hard--ain't so hard.
Race 2
Kentucky-very hard
Started in the back of the pack again, but this time on very hard, and with a controller again.
Pros
:I saw a top 10 finish of guys like Tony Stewart, Jimmy Johnson, Kyle Busch, Kurt Busch, Kevin Harvick, and People like Jennifer Jo Cobb, and Robby Gordon in the back of the pack.
:On very hard there is a noticeable difference in the difficulty, but I could still pass if I worked my lines.
:Got spun out into the pits, and...boom...no black flag for speeding
:Was able to work my through the field and finish 12th, and there was 7 cautions, and all were legit, and had the yellow drop
:AI cars were stable, but still felt like they could be spun out just as easily as a human car.
The final 20 laps of this race was the best time I have ever had with this title. I had climbed my way into the top 20, and the field was spread out a little. I had a chance to just race and focus on my lines. I was able to pass cars in a legit fashion, and even had a couple return the favor.
Cons
:Still a pack of three or four slow-*** cars at the bottom of the front stretch.
:Draft is still too strong, and allows manipulation of it.
So with about 80 laps under my belt with the new patch, I am impressed, but not blown away by any stretch. It seems that cautions work, AI takes different lines, black flags are fixed...
But still instances of cars being too slow, and abruptly breaking. This was huge one for me, because it truly is the factor that corrupts the flow of the race. Every good race has a nice rhythm of flow to it, and these quick break-checks(while better) have a way of stripping that rhythm away.

Just read those who raced against others with the patch online went much better. Still a few issues but it sounds very positive!
Blue~ can you go to one of the short tracks and see how the game plays with the patch? Just curious if that mess with the lights, cautions, pits is all resolved.

This is great news:
"you will get kicked for driving backwards or rough driving buddy of mine hit the wall or was trying to wal ride and he got kicked for rough driving. raced one at watkins glen somebody cut the s curve and it game them a 11sec delay, said it slowed his car down real bad for 11secs"

After caution, worked my up to 18th, but it was hard to pass at this point. Then I caused another caution, and had to pit, cause my tires were gone. I ended up finishing 26th, and probably only had a top 15 car.
Bottom line: If you race clean, and allow space for the AI, Bristol can be some of the best racing I have found. If you want to race like a fool, and blame the AI for cutting you off(when really it was you who cause it) then it still can be a mess.

NASCAR The Game 2011 Q&A’s Post Patch
Q. Why are the cautions still not working after the patch?
A. The caustions are working you just need to select the correct option in the 'CHOOSE A RACE' menu. There are two options:
Casual - Damage - Cosmetic, Caution Flags - Off, Driver Assists - On, Custom Setups - Off
Hardcore - Damage - Full, Caution Flags - On, Driver Assists - Off, Custom Setups - On
By default the selected option is Casual and this means that Caution Flags will be set to off all you need to do is select Hardcore and Caution Flags will be set to on.
Q. Why am I being kicked from the lobby just before the race starts?
A. What the game now does is just before a race starts it checks to see if everybody can see each other and if there is somebody who has a bad connection in the lobby that some players can't see the game will remove that player. A way to resolve this problem is to ensure that your NAT is set to OPEN you can find a guide on how to do this HERE
I can deal with most of the stuff if it will no longer BURN UP MY FF WHEEL!!!!
Is there anybody that has tried it with the MS Wheel? I'd get grinding sounds and loss of FF after a few laps any time I did, which is the primary reason I shelved it for months. If the AI still has a few braking point issues, I can deal with that...hell, NR2003 had loads of those.
But if I can't drive it with a wheel because it'll blow up, I'm not even going to trade this in for fear of somebody else getting it. I'm going to use a blowtorch and melt the disc.

Well may it be coincidence or not, I just had the best offline race I think I have ever had. I raced the Glen on hard, 20 laps, and started in the back at 43rd. I worked my way up slow and methodical, making sure not to beat and bang too much with the AI cars. By lap 12 I had worked my way to 16th, and by lap 18 I had worked my way to 1st.
What happened was there were 4 cautions in the race, so as I kept moving up through the field, a caution would come out, and brought the front of the pack back to me. I lost the lead on the 19th lap to Stewart, only grab it back early on lap 20.
All four cautions were AI caused and seemed like legit moves, where the driver may have been just a touch to aggressive.
I had a blast racing it though, and its time to do a 40 lapper at the Glen on Very hard...

I'm going to try to keep this level-headed, as I've been so furious at this game for so long, but I just tried 4 short races at lunch. I deleted all of my prior save games and data, so I had to set it up like a brand new profile.
I set the AI to Very Hard and the control to Legend (didn't see anything about Hardcore?). I wanted to do more "testing" in the first few races just to see what I'd have, and then run one short race at the end of my lunch hour to see how it played out to finish one.
First Test: Martinsville
I am decent at getting around Martinsville, so I decided to give it a shot. I loaded up a quick race, which I naturally forgot had NO PRACTICE. Straight to qual/race? I still think that's one of the worst design decisions ever. So I head on out for a qual lap, not having run the NTG2011 handling model in well over a month. I discover it's obviously a lot more forgiving than iRacing, and I putt-putt around the track, clipping the inside curb and generally being very slow.
I qualified 43rd...which was a good sign. Even on Very Hard at most tracks I could qualify near the front in my sleep before, so that was nice. At the start of the race, I'm able to run 3 wide with the AI cars through the corners, and they're taking very believable lines. I work my way up to 27th in about 10 or 12 laps, using both the inside and outside lanes to pass cars. Eventually I get a wiggle and an AI car dives underneath me. I don't notice it, move down, and get turned. Totally my fault--but a YELLOW FLIES!!! Holy crap, color me shocked. I don't pit, and I'm still in 27th. As far as I know, a spin was an EOL penalty? So that was off. But I hammer down again, pick up another 5 or 6 spots, and end up turned again due to my aggression. However, both times a yellow flew, so I was shocked.
I was actually having fun.
Second Test: California
I like to test at California because it's such a tough track to get the AI right on. The entries are so varied and the track chews the tires up so much that if you have something wrong, it's magnified. A few warts showed up here, but it was only one race so I'm not sure what to make of it yet. The AI cars took some REALLY weird lines into the corners. Some would drive it so hard down into the corner that they would be chewing that RF up--but they kept it up for quite a while, like they weren't losing time at all. I'll have to keep an eye on this. However, I qualified 24th using the standard default setup. I was able to work my way into the teens pretty easily by just managing my corner entry and beating guys into the corner. There were two very different lines here run by the AI, which was encouraging. However, with the default setup, getting it into the corner at the same pace as the AI cars had me tearing up my tires, and after 6 or 7 laps they were dusting me and I was dropping back rapidly. I'll have to test this more tonight, to see if running the high groove (or loosening the car up) will help. Another caution, but this one caused by the AI on a 3-wide attempt into turn 1. More encouraging sights.
Test 3: Daytona
I started a Career just to see how that first race would go. Using defaults again, I qualified 6th (instead of 1st, which was way too easy to do before!). The guys up front were Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Jeff Burton, Kevin Harvick, etc. Believable. I get a nose under Gordon heading down the backstretch and end up falling in line behind Stewart, who's leading. I drag my brake to avoid plowing him in the @$$, tuck up behind him, and am shocked at how easy it is to stay stuck on his bumper. Gordon ended up catching up, and the 3 of us started yarding the field. However, a 4-car train caught us on the outside and managed to power past. No two car tango, but it was still fun regardless. I backed out after about 10 or 12 laps of that, as I was starting to run out of time for a short race to finish.
Final Test: Michigan
I know my way around Michigan, so I figured this would be the best place to test an actual race from flag to flag. I set it for 20 laps so it would still be relatively short, and qualified 9th. To my surprise, the biggest AI issue of the day appeared here. Coming out of 4, the vast majority of the cars slowed to a crawl. I blew by the first few on lap 1, and then within a couple more laps took the lead. Their qualifying laps were fast, so something about side by side racing coming off of 4 scares them, which can be a problem.
Through 20 laps, I gained 7.8 seconds on 2nd place and won in a sleepwalker of a race. So there's the good news--I didn't have catch up AI that kept them 3 seconds behind me the whole race. The distance from me to Jimmie Johnson stayed consistently increasing. However, the AI off of 4 was bothersome, but I only saw them for about 4 or 5 laps. I'll need more time to really see if it's a huge issue or not.
At the end of my hour for lunch, I had one thought in my mind:
"Damn that was fun. Can't wait to try it again tonight."
Considering that's about the furthest thing away from my prior thoughts on the game, I'm pretty shocked. And my wheel didn't bug out on me during any of the races. It moved a little oddly when it went to a caution flag menu or something, but overall it was pretty smooth.
My biggest tests will be tonight, when I actually add pit stops into the equation. But considering how fun the AI was to run with and the frequency of yellow flags, the pitting under green may or may not be a problem anymore for me. I'll certainly find out tonight.
It may not be perfect, guys, but at least it seems playable.

Thanks, keep the impressions coming. I am curious about the AI pitting sequence and how they re-enter the track.
So far I like what I have read.

If someone is doing a longer test, can you verify if green flag pitting is better? I noticed playing pre-patch that everything would be going full speed when I was in slow motion going through my pit sequence.
I'm planning on getting on later to try myself but was wondering if anybody has noticed anything different with that yet.
