MLB Bobblehead Pros News Post

Back at E3, I previewed MLB Bobblehead Pros and pretty much could not say enough nice things about it. Konami's Power Pros baseball franchise is beloved for all the right reasons, and this $10 XBLA arcade game seems to be just another way for more people to experience the franchise.

Many folks may have missed out on the series because it has mostly been known for being released on Nintendo platforms this generation, but it's a simulation baseball series that is hidden under a cartoon-like graphical facade. While this version is not quite as in-depth as some of the earlier retail versions of the game, it seems like there is still local co-op online, an edit player feature (although it seems to be locked when you first play the game), full 162-game season and create-a-team elements as well.

Some members here at Operation Sports have already picked up the title and have some nice things to say about it:

There is a demo for folks to try, and it appears more content will be coming to the game later in the summer. Some of the content coming at a later date includes a home run derby, as well as My Bobble mode, which seems like it will be some sort of career mode where you control one single player for a whole season. I doubt it will be as in depth as "The Life" mode found in other Power Pros games, but it would still be a welcomed addition regardless.

Lastly, while the Xbox Live Arcade version is the only one out right now, it seems like a PS3 version will be coming at a later date.

Well, it sounds like they are guessing on the price of the DLC. $20 for what there is yet to be unlocked sounds a little much ($10 for HR derby?).

Anyway, has anyone noticed that there are players missing from the rosters? K-Rod is missing from the Mets bullpen, which seems a bit odd and inexcusable.

Yeah, it's ridiculous not to have K-Rod. The Mets are also missing Ruben Tejada. They probably did it on purpose to force you to buy the "edit player" feature. I'm waiting to start my Mets season since there is no fantasy draft, or create/edit player right now. I wonder how many other players happen to be missing from the game.

I bet Home Run Derby mode will be up for download Wednesday morning since that's when the marketplace updates.

Nashville Sounds are well-represented in the derby tonight with Rickie Weeks and Prince Fielder making the National League team.

I heard Ryan Braun made the NL all-stars but is still injured and can't play, so that would have been three Sounds alumni on the squad!

Also, if anyone saw what Konami did with the glut of DLC in the recent Castlevania HD game, it's no surprise to see them DLC-ing it up again with Bobblehead Pros.

Nope.

Power swing all day, baby!

Hey guys. Was wondering if there was any way to change the number of innings a game lasts while in season mode? It shows up in the options menu but is grayed out along with the mercy rule and max innings. I'm not a fan of simulating and playing 9 innings for 162 games is a bit much. Definitely a fun little game though.

I noticed that I mostly hit weak groundballs with the contact swing. I was wondering if I was doing something wrong or if the batting cursor is different from past Power Pros games. In the other PP games I was able to get plenty of solid hits with contact swing. This game seems like you need power swing just to hit a routine flyball to the outfield.

Ya, My guess would have been half of what it cost for the game for the DLC. But I guess we will see soon.

Definitely check the hot/cold zones for all the hitters on your team. You can view these in the player lineup screen. It will improve your hitting a bunch once you're taking advantage of each player's hot zones.

But yeah, there's really no reason not to use the "power swing" exclusively in this game. The risk/reward system is kind of screwed up there.

Well, if it's the same as Power Pros, then it's literally impossible to hit a home run with the contact swing. I really don't like that.

I wish it was more balanced like The Show.

If they want $10 (800 points) for Homerun Derby and Edit player each then I'll skip the Homerun Derby and just buy the Edit player. Which I hope comes out around the trading deadline since that would make sense.. Costing $5 each is reasonable. Then full game will be $20 which is what PP was on the PS2.

For the $10 dollar price tag I can live with outdated rosters and what not. I don't see how anyone can complain about that stuff for the price you paid for the game. People seem to be losing sight that its an arcade game and not a retail game.

Gameplay and limited features the game still offers more then some $60 sport titles out there.

Well, i tried what you said (everything to All-Star) and started a season with the Red Sox. Couldnīt be more happy with the resultīs of the first game:

Red Sox(me) 7 vs Rangers(cpu) 4

Hits: Me - 11 / CPU - 10

Notes:
- I strucked out 6 times, CPU strucked out 5 times
- John Lackey went 6/2 innings with 79 pitches giving up 1 run
- My relievers gave up the other 3 runs
- Pitchers tire out quickly but there are 2 animations: when he cleans his forehead with his arm he doesnīt seem to loose much control or velocity, however when pitchers start to make that animation where they are gasping for air, the ball is thrown all over the place (nice).
- I got two HRīs (Youk and Ortiz) both with power swing
- I got a triple that hitted the right field wall with CONTACT swing!

Very, very good game!!! However, i would not be able to win with everything in All Star if i wasnīt playing with the Red Sox, im sure...

Hey guys,

I'm a handful of games into this and am getting rocked and am not scoring runs. I've read through all these post and will give a few of these things a try for pitching (using higher rated pitches, not placing the ball where the CPU first places his bat etc..)

I'm on fast pitch speed and struggle to hit with power. Last night I took the advice listed here (not swinging at low pitches and using the power swing and this led to a lot of fly ball outs, but no home runs and few extra base hits.

I'm gonna reset to default difficulties today as i've tinkered a lot with the settings. Maybe letting the settings sit for a couple of days will lead to more consistent results.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Has you can see on my above post, i switched everything to all-star and had a great game, HOWEVER, there is a major difference:

I play in NORMAL pitch speed... fast doesnīt give me enough time to place the bat that well... i play with LOW help in batting

Try normal speed instead of fast...

Do you guys think a new DLC pack is coming out today?

# 216 jyoung @ 07/12/11 05:32 PM
Xbox marketplace usually updates on Wednesdays.

I wouldn't be surprised if Home Run Derby and the All Star Teams are up tomorrow.

# 217 jsou4646 @ 07/12/11 10:20 PM
Anyone know if it possible to have more than one season going at a time?

# 218 nunogomes @ 07/13/11 05:35 AM
In the game i donīt think so... however, you could create another profile on your xbox. That would work.

About season mode... Now that i finnally got the right balance for difficulty and realism for me in the game, i just realized that i will never finish a 162 game season...

I play one game per day of BobbleHead Pros, so it would take more than 5 months!!!

Im thinking about this: Simulate until the All-Star Break! And play everything from there!

Anyone here is going to simulate anything in season mode? to cut the number of games played? If yes, how?
