NCAA Football 12 News Post

Since the beginning of this current-gen console era, the NCAA Football demo has signified the start of the "summer of football" here at Operation Sports. In many ways it is the most loved and hated time here for many folks, including myself. This time of year spawns excitement, anger and rampant discussion about all things related to video game football, but the NCAA Football demo acts as the catalyst that makes all of it happen.

With that in mind, it only seemed right to dedicate this week's roundtable to talking about the NCAA Football 12 demo. Read on to find out what some of our writers think about the demo at this point.

I have to go with Christian and Bob on this. The additions of tackling and momentum play a huge role for me. NCAA 11 was solid, and NCAA 12 really tightens it up.

"It should be noted, however, that during my extensive play testing at E3, most spread option quarterbacks were very dangerous, and they would make you pay for whiffing on blitzes or not bringing pressure (most notably Baylor). I'm not quite sure if this is an issue that will be found throughout the game, or if it is isolated to Oregon, but I'd like to see this aspect tweaked on release day via the demo tuning that EA has promised us".

This is one thing I hope stands in the retail. I really hope Dual-Threat QBs are dangerous. And I couldn't agree more, if it is a problem that Oregon is ineffective in this department, PLEASE fix this via patch/tuner.

The cpu "throwing" it away while being sacked is definitely an issue and was the thing I saw the most of while playing the demo besides mobile qbs not doing enough with their legs. The game feels incredible though and I am extremely happy with it - the tackling, zone defense, and lack of suction makes this game have a whole different feel.

However, my biggest issues have to do with the CPU AI. Too many times the quarterback has thrown the ball away when he still has plenty of time to find an open receiver. Receivers continue to run into the defensive backs, and the defensive backs keep running to the sidelines before simply stopping. The play calling has also been very questionable, and even entirely stupid at times. Down by eight with 22 seconds left, Texas opted to run a draw. These are all simple problems the developers can presumably fix at some point, so hopefully something is done about these problems.
When I saw this, I unwrapped a banana laffy taffy, took a bite and savored the flavor.

I don't agree with the last sentence though.

Jayson nailed it!

The players seem to slide and glide more than actually having the foot planting in the grass. This bothers me because it makes the game seem very arcadish. I never get the feeling the players are ever really running. Other than the the game looks GREAT, but the commentary is so stale and awful at times. It still does not show (at least in the demo) any true TD celebrations with teammates mobbing (esp for game winners) no crowd noise differentials...etc. they have work to do. The demo seems like NCAA 11.5

The demo is like 3 months old almost...that may be why it seems like NCAA 11.5.

I've also played all the sports game that one reviewer props up and all bore me...although they do have nice presentation obviously when compared to NCAA and Madden.

I agree with Christian and Bob. Jason your not serious when you state, Mlb the Show has TV-quality commentary are you? Even though I agree NCAA commentary needs work, The Show needs more work.

Exactly. @ Jayson got it right.

EDIT: Only thing was right was the fifa comment. But that goes for all football games, sans backbreaker. MLB The Show has horrid commentary these days. As for NBA 2k, it's nice and all, but the script isn't where you want it. Clark Kellogg is a damn good color commentator, but sounded awful in this past year's game.

Personally from a guy that loves oregon spread option I am dispointed about the speed of the hand offs on the offset power plays it really gives the defense to much time to get to the play other than not having the shovel option in ths game yet again I thought the game was very crisp NCAA 11

I love the game and everything so far so good good improvment from 11. but as anyone else noticed the invisable players when showing the gametrack replay. it happen to me when i came back from halftime and they showed a gametrack and all i see was the ball no players at all, just the ball being moved around but couldnt see any players on the field. i hope this is just a demo problem.

MLB 2k11 has a better commentary than MLB the show!!! 2K sports the best!!!

Couldn't have said it better myself and I also agree with the last guy's sentiment. Things are still not "Backbreaker" smooth. While that game sucked overall because of the camera angle and awful player models, the tackling and physics were fantastic. Time to step up to the plate like Fifa did.

I noticed none of them commented on the superhuman linebackers that are back in the game. I noticed it heavily and it oh so frustrating. Open guys that can't get the ball because some linebacker with a 42" vertical comes out of nowhere to bat the pass down. This needs to be addressed.

Also... maybe it is because of the wide receivers running into the DBs, but it seems like there is plenty of "psychic DB" play in man coverage and the CPU overall blitzes way too much. Am I the only one who noticed this?

The CPU play-calling and overall AI is bad on offense... still.

This, however, it is to be noted, I only noticed the superhuman linebackers and psychic DBs during the ps3 demo, which is really frustrating because I have both systems and tend to prefer ps3 for a lot of games. however, I will say that I may end up picking this up for 360 this year because the ps3 version is so poorly done. It's truly a shame. Hopefully this can be fixed by release. But the lack of backbreaker smoothness is apparent with both games.

Great thoughts but does anyone know how old is the demo build?

I remember last year when we all had mixed opinions on what turned out to be one of the best football games ever! Just saying..

# 18 Broncos86 @ 06/29/11 02:55 PM
Edit: Probably a month or two old.

I really love the fluidity and how much smoother the game plays, but I'm not sure If anyone knows what I'm talking about, but I feel that the CB/WR interaction in man coverage is still broken. It feels as if the Cornerbacks already know what route the receivers are running. If EA can fix that aspect Madden and NCAA would be so much better. That part of the game still doesn't feel right to me.

Does anyone else agree?

# 20 TheTodd84 @ 06/29/11 03:10 PM
danny... did you read my post... it is exactly the same as yours regarding the psychic defensive backs, lol.
