JBHuskers of The Gaming Tailgate sat down with Designer Alex Howell to discuss some changes in Road To Glory for NCAA Football 12.
Quote:
"JB: What was the biggest challenge that you had to overcome in your path at Auburn and what kind of similar challenges can users expect within this mode this year?
Alex: How insanely physically and mentally challenging the game is. No one person could have ever prepared me for the challenges I had in college. From red-shirt workouts at 5 in the morning every Friday, to tackling drills with Pro-Bowler Karlos Dansby, it was a hard life. But it was worth blood, sweat and tear. The biggest challenge that I want to put into RTG from my own experiences is the way you control your own destiny. As much as football is a team sport, if you yourself are not mentally and physically prepared, you will fail. So finding a way to make the experience very unique, challenging, and rewarding to each person is the route I had to go in. "
I'm glad someone agrees with me on the Teambuilder questions
As for RTG I didn't play it at all last year, I guess I'll try it this year since you can play both sides of the ball but once I choose a college that'll prob be it for RTG and then it'll be back to Dynasty mode.
I think that they have done some good work improving the mode. I usually only play RTG for a couple of weeks until rosters are out and my OD's start to play. I obviously don't like the micro-transaction "steroids". But I don't have to use them to play the mode and there are people out there that want to pay money to have all that the boosts offer. So for me this mode has been drastically improved. Like I said I plan to play the mode for about 2-3 weeks or however long it takes for PS3 rosters. I really like the addition of "Iron Man" football. I played two ways in high school my junior season. It is fun, but you are dead tired after every game. I would pretty much sleep from midnight Friday after the games, until about noon on Saturday so that I could wake up to watch college football.
Great News from TGT
"I double checked on this....there is an option to turn Commentary ON in Road to Glory. "
Great to have options.
I am definitely turning on commentary for each one.
After digesting 5 min quarters, I am okay with it. It is quick I can get through 3+ games in a hour and a career in a few days. So I can do an entire career before named rosters come out
Can't believe we can't use our named rosters in RTG again. I've been waiting since '08 for this. Makes it pretty useless to play through the high school portion of the game imo to be stuck with a bunch of randomly named players or players called QB #5 or the like.
InNCAA 11 u could use custom rosters, but you wouldn't get credit for the online RTG leaderboards - which I'm convinced some of the leaders cheated. My FR WR for ECU had a 200 cth, 3300 yrd, 40 TD 1st season and after breaking all school season, game and career records plus three NCAA records I had a score just over 1600. The PS3 WR leader had a score of over 11,000. With [b]Buffalo[\B], really? After that I used existing player only and all players had their correct names and you could use ratings edited rosters as well like Block O. You can also edit the guy you wanna use, you just don't get credit for the leaderboard. That's NCAA11 though. I'm sure in NCAA12 you can use existing players as well.
Does anyone know if you have to wait until after your senior year to commit? It would be cool to commit early and still receive offers from other schools, and maybe switch commitments on NSD.

Pretty sure you'll have to wait until your high school days are over to make your decision.
Great news. As stale as it is, the commentary helps the immersion factor considerably for me.
Commentary doesnt say my last name, which really sucks. Well, they will say my last name but i would have to spell it differently. Thats a big reason why commentary doesnt really mean **** to me.

I was actually really surprised they had my last name, even back in 08. I've never met anyone who's had the same last name, or anyone who's known anyone with the same last name. Not only that, but 95% of the time, most people can't even spell it out, or pronounce it right.
The thing is that, it seems like the announcers(actually only Nessler who even says last names) rarely ever even says last names. So it wouldn't be to much of a issue with me, even if they didn't have it. Hell, the PA announcer says last names at least twice as often as Nessler does.

PA announcer says your last name after every play if you are involved in it. Wheather you are running the ball or making the tackle. Sometimes i do spell my name wrong on purpose just to get that satisfaction.

I started using generic last names a while ago. I thought when they had a last name entrys a few years ago I thought I had a chance, But I dont care. I dont ever try to recreate my self. I create fictional characters with a fictional bios.
The whole idea of RTG is to emulate the gameday experience of a player. You're on the field, not watching on TV, so I don't get wanting commentary for this mode.
