According to Pastapadre and Kotaku, Phil Frazier (Executive Producer for Madden NFL) is the latest to leave EA Sports Tiburon.
Quote:
"It is currently uncertain where he is headed however two prime possibilities are Row Sham Bow – the new social gaming company started by former Tiburon GM Philip Holt – or the massive social gaming company Zynga which has taken on several former Tiburon employees in the last year."
Sorry, I just don't get the hate for the guy by certain people. Look, regardless of how you feel about the Franchise that is Madden, I don't think you can villianize guys like Phil Frazier for any of it's short comings.
In my experience there are certain types of people in this world when it comes to the wonderful world of video games. In an industry where nothing is really assured, long tenures, no matter where you are, aren't guaranted unless you're either with a major company with multiple block-buster IPs, or you're just great at what you do.
And I don't mean "great" as in, he just does an amazing job. That's not all there is too it. I mean, great as in the guy has that non-stop motor at everything he does whether it be his work or just being THE guy at the office everyone looks to for leadership and even just a good talk. The guy that the inevitable douchebag that works at every place of business can't get rid of unless he eliminates everyone around him, and forces him out when he is finally given no other options, isolated, and ridden out. And just when you think he's broken, and that he doesn't have anything left, you see him walking down the street, as bright as ever, and he tells you how great his new job is and how he's excited for this and that.
The type of guy that even if he worked at an amusement park, if you could you'd drop everything to go follow him. To succeed, and have fun doing it.
I don't know if he's that guy, I don't. However, if he survived 13 years on the Madden team, I'd be willing to bet he has some of that guy in him.
It was a joke. And you don't know what's going to happen in 2013. The NFL could decide not to renew it.
You'd be surprised what I know.
Even if the NFL didn't renew in 2013, you think 2k is anywhere near ready to put a football game on the shelf? I can tell you with great certainty they are not.
Phil took a lot of undeserved crap from the communities especially this one. OS being one of them that attracts some of the most disrespectful, intolerant, won't listen to logical reason, people who know more than they understand, types around. It takes thick skin not to just cuss people out around here from what I've read.
I always liked how Phil handled things, and I enjoyed watching Phil in the Madden 12 vids this year. He appeared to be having a lot of fun. I think Madden 12 looks fantastic and since he's going out he's going out with a bang. I salute him and wish him well.
About what's going on at EA. Who knows. You won't convince me though that there isn't something rocky happening right now. Sorry, I wasn't born yesterday. 3 top guys going one after the other? But it's all just nothing? Yeah okay. I've heard a lot of spin from the usual suspects (I won't name any names but they always pop up with the same tired spin like clockwork so we all know who they are). But, to be quite honest as a consumer, EA's internal issues are much lower on my radar than the product they turn out. Make a great game, that's all I care about. 12 might be it from what I've seen.
With 3 top guys gone, I just don't want them to move anybody up into those positions who doesn't have a strong background in game making (i.e. he should have years of solid programming experience, professional design experience, experience managing large projects, etc) and making sports games specifically. I don't want to see them taking any gambles with unprovens to save on salaries or anything like that. Fingers crossed. Good luck to Phil!
