Madden 12 News Post

IGN has just released quite a few more Madden NFL 12 details, including the ability to change teams in the offseason, tiered scouting system, an eBay style bidding system for free agents and more.

Quote:
  • Dynamic Player Performance: Player ratings fluctuate based on consistency and confidence.
  • Player Roles: More than 20 roles (Playoff Performer, Trench Warrior) affect player and team stats throughout the season.
  • The Pre-Season Matters: Start with 75-player roster and need to make cuts each week. Playing pre-season games reveals player ratings.
  • Scouting Reworked: Tiered scouting system reveals ratings tied to different events (college season, combine, pro day, individual workout).
  • Draft Class Improvements: Robust set of draftees built for 30 seasons of franchise. Teams draft based on their real tendencies.
  • Free Agent Bidding Wars: eBay style bidding against other GMs creates intense, rapid-fire free agent period that takes only a few minutes to complete.
  • Smarter General Managers: Better re-sign and cut logic. GMs make trades and sign free agents who fit their needs, with player roles factored in.
  • Coaches Matter: Coaches have small positive and negative impact on how players perform on the field based on their style.
  • Edit Any Player: Alter the ratings of any player -- rookie, created player, or established veteran.
  • Change Teams: In any offseason, change control of which teams you run in Franchise mode.
  • Numerous Tweaks: Many other small tuning and additions are coming, including retirement logic, a more accurate salary system, fixes to the injured reserve system, better simulation stats, and more.

I don't remember the last time I was this excited for a video game.

I am impressed! that is a big undertaking. a lot of code will be written! Kudo's to the EA Dev team and Creative management to head in this direction. as a offline franchise player this means 'heart' to me man! MADDEN 12 has my hype to real so far!

Wow, I can't wait for more information on this game.

Awesome feature list. AI will still be a huge factor in how well franchise mode plays as it directly relates to the ability of the mode to stay challenging past the first few seasons.

But even just a revamp in how things are done is welcome. The mode has been basically the same since 2004 or so - in fact it has probably only gotten slowly worse. A reversal of this, even a small one, is a great start.

Also, this means CPU to CPU trades, right?

I really hope so. As long as it isnt overdone. I mostly want to see trades for picks. I want to see alot of Draft day trades mostly.

My statement was meant for the cpu, all the cpu did was take the overall rating into consideration. Now if a player plays well in pre season and the starter does not they may give him a shot at the starting job. before the only time a player would jump over another in the depth chart was during the off season after player progression.

Hopefully they brought back the newspaper

With EA doing everything they can to replicate what we see on Sunday, I don't see the problem in making sure the Picks are accurate as I think that will help Franchise Mode as well.

I can understand his frustration though but at the same time if a team trades their 1st Round Pick I think Madden should reflect that. I know I was trying my best when I controlled at 32 teams to make sure teams had correct picks, and I'll be doing the same thing again in Madden 12.

Also we should be able to carry as many as 15 picks total not just 10.
A few years ago when the Giants traded Shockey to the Saints, I always moved Vilma to the Giants roster (one of there best players and in final year of deal, so no big cap hits) before I started my franchise and then traded him back for the 2nd and 5th.

Awesome news so far for Franchise! One of my favorite things to do in Franchise is rebuild teams and make them playoff contenders year in and year out, though once this is accomplished I usually start a new one because it's kind of easy stack the team through EA's generic draft classes and you end up with a super roster easy.

Going to be fun rebuilding teams and moving on to others. Looks like I'll work on getting the Bronco's back and adding more depth to the Bucs then start some other rebuilding processes. Best part to me though, is I can take a year off a team and relocate another then switch back the next year.

One thing I would really like for them to do is be able to add an expansion team (basically like relocating) to replace a current team in Franchise. Basically, same process as relocating but all your players are put into the FA pool and you go through a supplemental draft to build up your roster. That way you have to start from scratch big time. Also, would be a reason to add supplemental drafts to Madden and a 2nd tier draft class from NCAA (basically a random set of graduates/declared who didn't make the draft cut).

this is a step in the right direction, but i just have a feeling that when its all said and down that us hard core guys will still see the flaws in the franchise mode and superstar mode. im not one to really wine about the gameplay but in my eyes when you brag about being around for 20 plus years and u still dont have what happens in football off the field and in the front office. you will still have hard core football fans like me ask myself why is this that way and how come we still have this issue and why do i at 60ovrl still start over ed reed and not beside him at the other safety spot

However, they said that Madden would need some other system to differentiate players if you couldn't see OVR or ratings.

Now, With the addition of player roles and the other features to differentiate players, I think they can add the option to hide OVR or all ratings. That way, not only would preseason matter but so would potential practice and every game. The only true way to evaluate ALL players, ALL year, would be on the field.
I would love if the ratings were hidden. Heck, I'd prefer if they were scored on a A+ to F bases then 0-100, since it's hard to figure out how much each rating matters (since for some you have to reach a certain # before an animation is used, so a guy 1 point different has a whole new arsenal that another doesn't).

Would be awesome just to have to players, then use roles and maybe even some basic descriptions "Fast burst.... Great route runner with inconsistent hands... Canon of an arm but lacks consistency" and etc, then you base players off how they play and not what all those numbers and OVR rating add up to.

Not only would this add more depth (at least for me it would), but FA bidding and trading would have more impact then it does now. It's too easy to just look for the best OVR player and add them, when instead you can use past season stats, on field performance, and maybe even scout them to see how they would fit in your system. Picking a player based off of how he plays and his strengths and weakness is better then just saying "Oh look, 99 catch and 90 route running, ok your signed."

The list of thing they are finally bringing back in madden 12 is quite
impressive, especially considering they are doing it all in one year.

Madden 12 appears to have more of the missing features returning than
all of the other madden titles combined over this generation of consoles. So, if they can put all this stuff back in, in one year, then what is their
excuse for all the other years and the 3 year plans etc

# 113 cowboykmoney @ 05/15/11 08:26 PM
Does this mean we can add weight to the players that is to small that plays LB or DE?.Man i hope we can do that this year.

Maybe they know that a new xbox is coming out soon so they figure they can give us 1 game with completely new features (Madden 13), then release 14 with stripped down modes (because it's a new build) and slowly add stuff back in over the following years

I really hope we're able to assign positions like they did back in Madden 05. My brother plays with the Saints and loves to move Bush to slot receiver and keeps Thomas in the backfield.

In a franchise mode, i would love to move lets say a TE to fullback or a good receiving running back to a slot position or so. But so far all the info coming in is WIN, i knew that skipping Madden 11 would only make Madden 12 that much better and WOW, game sounds like a dream come true.

# 116 acreyman @ 05/15/11 08:54 PM
Man, good things come to those who wait! Not skipping it this year thats for sure. NCAA however has me wondering. For the first time I wanted to play a season in NCAA and play a season in Madden and import draft classes every year. But the way this is looking it might awesome because that means if your heisman winning QB comes in with a rating you dont agree with then you can just change it! So I think regardless, NCAA is also a must buy just due to the fact that I can tweek ratings on imported Draft classes.

Man I remember seeing a blog saying this was just the beginning for the changes, and it would take 3 years to get all the changes they wanted in. This first year had a TON of changes so I can only imagine how awesome franchise is going to look in Madden 14.
.

I love/hate to say it, but I am VERY excited at this point. Being able to change ratings in a franchise is huge to me. I love the ebay style bidding on free agents.

This is going to be awesome. I hope this game makes me want to put away 2k5, because no other Madden has yet. Really, really want to play with HD Graphics. I know that might sound dumb to some, but after 2 years with 2k5, I am ready to move back to better graphics.

I mean they announce better scouting, and free agent bidding and everything is better? Let's take a step back everyone. EA has announced things being fixed in the past to no avail. Until I see that the CPU actually drafts better and signs free agents more realistically, I am keeping my money in my wallet.

Don't tell me, SHOW ME.
Yes, things are better. These are features/additions we've been waiting on/asking for for years now and they've finally arrived. Madden's franchise mode on the 360/PS3 has been a joke up until now. At least now EA is putting in the work to change that and for that they deserve their props.

Although I will say I don't disagree with you that I want to see with my own eyes that these things work properly and there isn't any big issues.
