MLB 11 The Show News Post

Okay everyone....this is the O.S.F.M. Opening Day set.

LINK.....http://www.sendspace.com/file/tckbk5

It is in the Roster Vault under
O.S.F.M. Opening Day....creator Knight165

This set includes....but not limited to:

-All teams 40 man players are correct(in some cases new players created)
-Approximately 80 new players added to replace players no longer in a teams system and to bring AAA(in most cases) up to date
-All players moved to have AAA/AA as close to possible. In most cases all players in AAA are present(some may have had to be put in AA). AA in some cases are exact....most cases though will have filler players from Single A...in some case quite a few from Single A
-MLB lineups/rotations as close to Opening Day as possible(rotations are not set up 1-2-3-4-5 according to how pitchers are percieved, but as they PITCHED to start the season....please don't say that so and so is not the #1 starter on a team, why is he in the first slot?(unless it's an error on my part)
-MiLB lineups/rotations set as to their Opening Day(as above). I tried to get AAA perfect, but I did not create/replace players at the expense of removing prospects....even fringe ones in most cases. I have about 35 players that would make AAA perfect...I will create them and release a player pack for those interested in that.
-Some minor tweaks(minor league players only!)

This is not a magic roster(nor is ANY), so if you don't use 30 team control the lineups and rotations will reset!!!

-For DL'ed players when the season started.....they are in Single A....use the DL feature to injure them or move them up if you like.
Here is the injuries to START the season...

Before you choose "Exit Spring Training/Enter regular season", you have to reassign which (15) players on the 40-man roster to send to AAA/AA, or else the CPU will do it for you.
Unfortunately, the CPU will not trim the team down to the 25-man roster that you had before entering Spring Training.
Instead it will use the game's logic to decide who to keep at the MLB level, as well as the rotation, pen, lineup, and bench.
That's just the way it is.

The easy way.. if you plan to skip Spring Training for year 1, just trim the 40-man down to 25 before entering Spring Training.
That way you go into it with 25/25 and not 25/40. Simulate through Spring Training. End Spring Training. Enter regular Season. NOW you go through and add those additional 15 players BACK to the 40-man roster.
Lineups, rotations, etc. should be just as they were on the original roster file (Assuming you had selected MANUAL for those decisions ahead of time).
Is this the best way to go?? Because I plan on skipping spring training and just jumping into my franchise.

Sorry if this has already been answered, but I couldn't find anything with the search..

What are you guys doing about the teams that are starting the season with a 4 man rotation. For example, I was just playing the Brewers, and they were attempting to plug Saito in as a stater. I don't follow the Brewers closely, but I'm assuming they started the season with a 4 man rotation, due to injury/days off.

I would've though that this would be something the AI could handle.. I don't really care if they have to call someone up from the minors to fill in, even if it's not what the real life team is doing. I just don't want a set up guy with practically no stamina getting the start.

Anyone else seeing problems like this? Or am I missing something here? I know that I can fix the problem with 30 team control, but I thought the AI would be able to handle this in a somewhat realistic fashion. I have a separate profile for all of the cpu teams with basically everything set to auto.. what's the best way to deal with this particular situation?

Thanks

If you read through the thread there have been several itemized descriptions on the process already. There are also a handful of threads in the general forum, as well as on the front page of the the Spring Training version outlining the process.

I feel the real issue is that many of the users asking for specific instructions have not taken the time to investigate or play around with the options, user settings, or profile options before asking a very broad question for a very detailed and itemized process. I can understand a direct question like 'where is option X located?', 'how do I create a custom profile?, or 'what happens if I leave option Y selected?'...

...yet many of the questions are more along the lines of 'how do I get everything perfect with minimal effort and not knowing where any of the the options you're referencing are located...'

I've always been one of the first guys to reach out and help others understand as much about the game / processes as I possibly can (including responding to dozens of PM's), but please do everyone that genuinely wants to help a favor by researching / searching before asking a question that has probably been answered dozens of times before.

The OS Forum has a wealth of information available. Although it may be time consuming to research or search for an answer I'm positive it is already here.
You've certainly tried to help me along with HustlinOwl but there is something I'm doing wrong and have read the entire thread and just can't find the answer and it's probably my fault. Here's what I've been doing and I hope someone can tell me what step I'm missing:

1. DL HustlinOwl's roster and save.
2. Create 2 profiles. Custom1 (me) and Custom2 (29 other teams) and have everything like lineups, rotations, etc to manual. Things like travel I set to auto
3. Start a new season with 30 team control with my team to Custom1 and 29 remaining to Custom2
4. Go to March 30 and simulate to date
5. Go to 'Manage Rosters' to add 15 players to my team and see only 25 players on MLB roster. Hit RL to 40 man roster and see only 25, hit RL again to ALL and see same, and no one on triple A roster.
6. simulate to 'end of spring training' and repeat process and have same result. ditto for start of regular season. I did this with the Custom1 profile which is also the default profile.
7. Tried to add players to other teams (still in Custton1 profile) and get the same results.

I can only find the original 25 man with no other players to add. What is this IDIOT doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: Want to remind you I'm playing a season and NOT a franchise. Btw, just simulated my first regular season game and ALL lineups on ALL teams are intact but still there's only 25 man MLB rosters, 25 on 40 man, etc.

Ha, considering all that you've been getting right, it's going to happen And hey, I just noticed he's pitching right now against the Yanks, he's wearing #55. I have a feeling the O's are coming back to Earth really quickly the next couple weeks. At least that's what Franchise is for!

Obviously in real life it would be asinine you roll out your 25-man squad to Spring Training and play them full time.
But does the game's logic engine recognize this and "penalize" you for it in anyway?
Sorry for the repost, but I'm still looking to see if anyone knows the skinny on this?

  3. Now Mode Options for CPU created profile would have to be manual for lineups/rotations, 40-man roster, roster moves, waivers, trades and free agency. IIRC that is all
  4. Now select a "new" franchise and load a saved roster
  5. Press "Square" to control all 30 teams, but having your main team your profile and the other 29 teams the CPU created profile.
  6. Next a screen with all kinds of options... fantasy draft, CPU ROSTER CONTROL, etc. Now make sure the CPU ROSTER CONTROL IS OFF
  7. Will automatically auto-save, next in calendar Wed March 30th, sim to date. Prompt will be spring has ended.
  8. For all teams now adjust 40 man roster, basically add the 15 players that were removed
  9. After players added to 40 man roster next would be to DL those injured players
  10. Save once more, but create a new file. I always do this just in case any objectives are missed.
  11. Now you are ready to advance to regular season and away you go.
Hustlin,

Thanks for posting this, it's very helpful. One quick question--you wrote to keep trades, roster moves, and waivers "manual" for the CPU contolled teams. Does this mean no trades will occur or just that I will be notified about any trades or waiver signings before they happen?

Thanks,
Brian

This might be a dumb question, but say you want to play the spring training games with the 40 man rosters. Has anyone compiled a list of what level of the minor leagues each of the 15 extra guys needs sent down to in order to keep the minor league level lineups in tact?

that is just during spring while setting up franchise, once season begins you can move to manual

You might be right. I still like their lineup though.

It won't. Progression happens during the season.

I started to ...and then just set up my 2nd PS3 and changed it from there team by team.(I still made some mistakes...as I had to re-adjust a few lineups.) Sorry.
That's a lot of writing.

I think you have this backwards. You meant to say Auto in the other 29 team profile, but Manual during ST (Do teams trade during ST?) If you set to Manual in the profile associated with the other 29 teams, trades will not be offered between the other teams.

There is still a 3 day trade window (versus 'Immediately'), an option you can choose when you begin a Franchise . This means that if you see a trade accepted amongst other teams, (that seems unrealistic) you can just go in and cancel it with the 3 days.

You do however want Manual in the profile controlling your main team.

I am confused?

  1. First would be to make sure your profile user settings and a second created CPU profile have Injuries set to manual. Set-up CPU profile to be default.
  2. Mode Options have your profile set to manual/auto on the GM duties you want/don't want to handle.
  3. Now Mode Options for CPU created profile would have to be auto for all GM duties along with lineups/rotations, 40-man roster, roster moves, waivers, trades and free agency.
Now make sure the CPU ROSTER CONTROL IS OFF
  7. End spring training.
  8. Now first day of the regular season, for all teams adjust 40 man roster, basically add the 15 players that were removed (https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=19H-...ut=list&num=50)
  9. After players added to 40 man roster next would be to DL those injured players
  10. Save once more, but create a new file. I always do this just in case any objectives are missed
  11. View today's games and sim all games, but your own in order for out-of-town scoreboard to work correctly. I would also suggest creating a CPU slider set with injury slider set @ 1 other wise simulated games will have a lot of injuries.
  12. Re-load your slider set and play your game.

Cool, thanks for the help. So basically I just need to keep lineups as manual for the CPU and I can put everything else at auto without any problems? What about 40 man roster, should I leave this as manual as well?

Thanks again.

Going through all this to get things set up, but aren't there going to be issues at the start of next season with lineups?

If I decide to control one team, and really just care about that one team, are things going to go weird on me? I know the CPU's rosters and lineups will change, but any other things to worry about.

I think some of the confusion is how to make this a simple franchise to play, to me it's a game, and I spend so much time making it realistic, that it takes the fun of the game away.

No. You're going to want at least injuries to manual (this is the notifications, NOT the option if they happen) too.

This is required to make DL assessments / assignments, as well as decide decide what to do with a player after he is no longer injured (the move to bench or auto-fix) message.

Here's what I run on the second profile:

Lineups/Rotations: Manual
40 Man: Manual
Roster Moves: Manual
Waivers: Auto
Injury Management: Manual

Everything else for the CPU teams is Auto.

Like I said, with manual you can still say 'auto-fix' if it won't screw something up (like a lineup or injury at AA), but if Jon Lester is injured for a few days, you'll want to know when he's healthy so that you can re-order that pitching rotation.

Yes. To a degree. But in all honesty, if you play all 162 games (I've done it once), setting everything up at the end of year 1 comes as a nice break from the game. It can always be done in stages, and it's no where near as concrete as year 1, because teams will have new players, guys will retire, there will be trades etc.

You'll just want to ensure Todd Helton isn't leading off, etc.

So as you go through the season do as notifications pop up on injuries, do you auto those (i am assuming the CPU messes stuff up) or go into each pop up and fix the situation?

It depends on what it is. I handle most everything at the MLB level.

I sim each game individually (so to have the rad in game updates, line scores, stats as well as OF scores), but mainly so that before or after each game I can go perform any maintenance. This only adds maybe a minute or two to each game you play - well worth it for authenticity sake!

For example, on opening day Josh Hamilton was injured (shocker) and told me he will be out for a few days. I am given the option to "KEEP ACTIVE" or "PLACE ON DL" Obviously I say KEEP ACTIVE.

Four days later (before) I simmed the TEX game I was told, Josh Hamilton is no longer injured, PLACE ON BENCH or AUTO-FIX. So I say PLACE ON BENCH, circle button back out, go to TEX Lineup and put him back in. No biggie. (If you AUTO FIX here, that is when lineups will go nuts.)

However, some days you'll have a handful of injuries / lineups to correct, so depending on your memory, (mine's awful) I make a quick note like AROD / NY, and then do them all at once.

As an addendum to to my previous post, I also turned WAIVERS to MANAUL in the other profile.

I just had a situation where the Cardinals seemingly for no reason (no injuries occurred, etc.) went and signed Luis Castillo...giving them 26 players on their MLB squad.

...I've never seen this happen before during a season where some other event didn't force a team to make a move.

At any rate, you've been warned.
