NASCAR The Game 2011 News Post

I received the game this morning at 9 AM. Please keep in mind, I have only raced 4 times so far and practiced at another.

I am going to answer as many questions as I can that have already been asked, then will keep posting impressions and answer as many questions as I can. I have my PS3 in my office hooked up to the same monitor as my PC, so I have to switch over, so If I don't immediately respond to something, it's because I am on the PS3.

On to the questions, from the other topic.

I wanna know how are the Graphics compared to NASCAR 09? I really can't get a good grasp from the videos. Thanks.

IMO the graphics are a bit better than NASCAR 09. NASCAR 09 was a nice looking game, but I think NTG11 does a better job here. There is a very natural, organic look to it, almost like MLB The Show has. The color palate is there, but it's not too crisp, or overdone.

The car models are nicely executed, and tracks look beautiful.

1. I think we are all wondering about the difficulty of the game and if what we saw in the videos was on some easier level. Is the game more realistic than what the videos may have lead us to believe?

2. Is there a true career mode, or is it just a season, and how does that work?

3. Do you get the sense that you are at 30+ different tracks, or does it feel like most of the tracks run about the same?

1. I set the difficulty for the AI on the highest at Tally, Daytona, and Texas. They were very competitive at Tally and Daytona, and Texas were just better than me....flat out! What I really like so far about the AI, is that they are aggressive, but not cheap. They understand that you are also on the track, and try to be cautious of their surroundings. They did bump draft with me at Tally and Daytona, and I could do the same with them...and there was no sign of them being disturbed by it.

2. Have not jumped into career mode as of yet, but will give it a run as the day progresses.

3. There was a nice difference in the feel from Atlanta, Texas, Daytona and Tally. They didn't feel that same at all, and based off early impressions, they did a nice job trying to individualize and realistically replicate each track.

Pre-race presentation-Is there a full pace lap with the driver/grid position rundown like EA did a few years back? Very tv-style touch that was very nice. Also, any featured drivers pre-race?

Wreck/caution-how long is it between the wreck, caution and going into the pace lap? Time enough to 'go thru' the wreck if it happened up in front and you're in the back of the pack, or just 'there's a wreck' and then two seconds later in the caution lap?

Keep in mind, I have not done season or career, but in "race now" option, there was no pre-race or any presentation. It literally took you to the race about 100 yards away from the start finish line.

In regards to wrecking, you get to watch the whole wreck. It doesn't take you away to a cut scene instantly. I was in one at Tally, and it seemed like it lasted 20 seconds, and I was in one at Texas, and it only lasted about 10 seconds. Then it gives you the option to pit under caution...if you choose no, it takes to a few seconds before the green flag drops again.

I am very curious about the realism of the track surface. For example, Are there bumps in on the lowside of turns 1 and 2 at Las Vegas? Do the bumps upset the car and make you create a setup that can handle those bumps?

That leads to my other question. How much does messing with the setup actually change the feel of the car? When the track rubbers up, does the car get tighter?

From what I have seen, the bumps feel like they are barely noticeable. I felt a little bit at Daytona in turns 3 going into 4(keep in mind its still Daytona 10 on my copy) but nothing that really forced me to white knuckle the wheel at all. When an AI car gets into you, you notice that a lot more than any bumps on the track surface. If you're hoping to really feel the surface bumps and have it effect the car....probably not going to be real happy.

I will say the the driving model is really well done though, and you truly feel connected to the track surface.

Ok, going to go test some more, and try to get some photos, but videos may be very difficult. I am trying to find a way to do it right now. I will be back in a few to answer some more questions and give some solid impressions.

got the game yesterday and played the game about 5 hours so far. I really like the game but the rubber banding is really annoying. How can a serious racing game still use sh!t like that? Raced a 200 laper at Fontana yesterday: not a single caution in the entire race and the last placed car was just 8 seconds behind the winner (me, of course). Rubber banding at it's best . Other strange stuff: I always led the race until there were pitstops. I was always 1st when I entered and when I left I was like 35th or worse (after all cars were in of course). It also didn't matter if I was in the pits one lap before everyone else or vice versa, so that has to be a bug, too.

Online was also fun but only 1 out of 10 races really works without bugs. The Paint Shop is fun but unfortunately I'm not skilled enough to create a good looking car

edit: just read in the official forums that there really is rubber banding in the game and that they probably remove it in the next patch. Great news imo.

That's great to hear, can't wait for patch.

what is a realistic time frame for the patch and the 2011 DLC?

My guess is the 2011 DLC will come sometime in late-April, and the 2nd patch will arrive in mid-June.

It is physically impossible to not spin out at Darlington on Default Setup.

Sounds like they have alot-----and I mean, ALOT-----of work to do just to make it playable.

What a shame. OTOH, thank goodness for great mods available for NR2003. Everything from paints and tracks to engine sounds and REAL spotters that don't talk stupid c**p during races, lol.

Oh well......maybe NTG 2012 will be much better.
Yeah a lot of these issues have really screwed this title launch up for many, many people. I just have not had nearly as many issues as most though. My games have never froze once, my on-line races with guys from here were very smooth(other than 1 issue of speed at Daytona) I do a lot of short 20/30 lappers against the AI on Very Hard....so I guess I don't run into nearly as many issues with the pits situation. I have only had the cars bunch up and keep ramming each other 1 time, and I knew before that even happened that a glitch was taking place.

Some of the biggest issues people have, I have never had to deal with. My wheel works great with it(GT driving force) I have learned how to control my car with the AI bump-drafting me(using a wheel). The yellow comes out most of the time, but not all. Sometimes I feel like I am playing a different game than a lot of people on here. Thats not to say that I have not run into issues, I have, but it just doesn't feel nearly as extreme as what I am seeing on OS and Eutech's own site. When I say those things people just call me a homer, a liar, that I am on the payroll for Eutech.

I posted the videos early on, and I am still having about the same experience as I was back then. I sat on the 360 for 3 hours the other night playing, and hardly ran into any issues, but that was running mainly 20-30 lappers on very hard, in race now mode.

Blue (or anyone else with a DFGT), since you are also using a driving force GT, I'm wondering if you have the 'problem' where the wheel doesn't return to center when calibrating during loading NTG'11.

This is the only game I own where it does this, so I just spin it the remaining turn (about 1 full turn) to recenter the wheel before the game starts. Otherwise, the wheel seems fine, just a weird thing.

Also, thanks to whomever recommended turning off all steering assists with the wheel. I was HORRIBLE with steering assists on, and can compete now that I turned them off. Game was practically unplayable for me with steering assists on.

I have not had any issues at all with it returning to the center, and I race the PS3 version with no assist on at all.. When we raced 6 races the other night, fore-arm was actually trembling from trying to counteract the strength of the wheel. I have only used the controller on 360 version, but might bust out the Micro 360 wheel later this week.

I should've worded that diffrently. I was actually making it hard on myself. common sense should've told me to enter text and stamp it on the car. i love how i can put my name on my car like some real drivers have if not all of them. lol

For me its all about recognition of when it is happening. In the cross-hair radar map at the bottom, you will see when a car turns blue, he is drafting off of you. I am constantly watching that radar at the bottom and bracing myself for not only the bump-draft, but any foreseeable future contact. I use the look-back feature and the location radar at the bottom, to make sure I am not coming down on the nose of an opponent, are to stabilize for drafting, or contact.

Its not like I never get spun out, but it only happens probably once every 3-4 races now. Before I started taking all of it into account, it was happening at least once a race, if not more. Im my mind, I do not even consider this an issue for me anymore.

I actually misread your original post. I thought this was happening to you during the game itself. While the game is loading, it does stop upside down, but then as soon as the game initializes, it spins to perfect center and right side up again.

Sorry about that!

Cool! Thanks for the feedback, guys. I just added a USB hub and wanted to make sure that was causing weirdness either. Funny thing is this game has gotten me interested in watching races again. Haven't done that for a few years.

What setting strength do you have your wheel tuned to for PS3? I have read that some people were having problems with theirs burning out, so I've turned mine to low. Also, what button is the look back? I have an older wheel, Driving Force Pro, but it works, but I can't figure out what button has you look back.

For me, the triangle button is the look back button. I have my FF strength at full. I have not had issues with it making weird sounds, are losing calibration at all.

Why are we talking about wheels on here? Using the wheel is stupid anyway. There's another thread for that.

Thanks for the response blue. Is your PSN the same as your name on here? I'd like to send you a friend request, nice to have some people on my list who have this game.

How come my created car doesnt show the full creation when practicing? I don't think it shows in real race. Have to double check on that part.
