NASCAR The Game 2011 News Post

I received the game this morning at 9 AM. Please keep in mind, I have only raced 4 times so far and practiced at another.

I am going to answer as many questions as I can that have already been asked, then will keep posting impressions and answer as many questions as I can. I have my PS3 in my office hooked up to the same monitor as my PC, so I have to switch over, so If I don't immediately respond to something, it's because I am on the PS3.

On to the questions, from the other topic.

I wanna know how are the Graphics compared to NASCAR 09? I really can't get a good grasp from the videos. Thanks.

IMO the graphics are a bit better than NASCAR 09. NASCAR 09 was a nice looking game, but I think NTG11 does a better job here. There is a very natural, organic look to it, almost like MLB The Show has. The color palate is there, but it's not too crisp, or overdone.

The car models are nicely executed, and tracks look beautiful.

1. I think we are all wondering about the difficulty of the game and if what we saw in the videos was on some easier level. Is the game more realistic than what the videos may have lead us to believe?

2. Is there a true career mode, or is it just a season, and how does that work?

3. Do you get the sense that you are at 30+ different tracks, or does it feel like most of the tracks run about the same?

1. I set the difficulty for the AI on the highest at Tally, Daytona, and Texas. They were very competitive at Tally and Daytona, and Texas were just better than me....flat out! What I really like so far about the AI, is that they are aggressive, but not cheap. They understand that you are also on the track, and try to be cautious of their surroundings. They did bump draft with me at Tally and Daytona, and I could do the same with them...and there was no sign of them being disturbed by it.

2. Have not jumped into career mode as of yet, but will give it a run as the day progresses.

3. There was a nice difference in the feel from Atlanta, Texas, Daytona and Tally. They didn't feel that same at all, and based off early impressions, they did a nice job trying to individualize and realistically replicate each track.

Pre-race presentation-Is there a full pace lap with the driver/grid position rundown like EA did a few years back? Very tv-style touch that was very nice. Also, any featured drivers pre-race?

Wreck/caution-how long is it between the wreck, caution and going into the pace lap? Time enough to 'go thru' the wreck if it happened up in front and you're in the back of the pack, or just 'there's a wreck' and then two seconds later in the caution lap?

Keep in mind, I have not done season or career, but in "race now" option, there was no pre-race or any presentation. It literally took you to the race about 100 yards away from the start finish line.

In regards to wrecking, you get to watch the whole wreck. It doesn't take you away to a cut scene instantly. I was in one at Tally, and it seemed like it lasted 20 seconds, and I was in one at Texas, and it only lasted about 10 seconds. Then it gives you the option to pit under caution...if you choose no, it takes to a few seconds before the green flag drops again.

I am very curious about the realism of the track surface. For example, Are there bumps in on the lowside of turns 1 and 2 at Las Vegas? Do the bumps upset the car and make you create a setup that can handle those bumps?

That leads to my other question. How much does messing with the setup actually change the feel of the car? When the track rubbers up, does the car get tighter?

From what I have seen, the bumps feel like they are barely noticeable. I felt a little bit at Daytona in turns 3 going into 4(keep in mind its still Daytona 10 on my copy) but nothing that really forced me to white knuckle the wheel at all. When an AI car gets into you, you notice that a lot more than any bumps on the track surface. If you're hoping to really feel the surface bumps and have it effect the car....probably not going to be real happy.

I will say the the driving model is really well done though, and you truly feel connected to the track surface.

Ok, going to go test some more, and try to get some photos, but videos may be very difficult. I am trying to find a way to do it right now. I will be back in a few to answer some more questions and give some solid impressions.

I have not found that option anywhere in-game. I will look again, and If I find it, I will let you know.

This is the game I have been wanting for a while now.

First off, I would like to say thank you to Blue and Seasprite for answering our questions. I apperciate that you guys are doing this for us.

Here are one of my questions
Is this game as hard to drive in just like Nascar 2003 was? I could never win a race in that game and got really mad about it. I thought I would just ask.

Thanks in advance.
You can really make this game drive how you want it to drive. There are so many option's to change the difficulty. It's not just pick a difficulty and go, as you can change each setting, in each difficulty......

1. Spit screen is for both players on same console, correct?

2. Can each player use a different camera? For example, one using cockpit and the other using behind-car view?

3. Is screen split top/bottom or left/right?

4. Can each player use different difficulty settings?

5. Can one player use controller and the other wheel?

Thanks.

Blue,
Are you doing some sort of interview this morning??? If so will you ask about Wheel support?? Specifically for the 360 version? I will tell you, If this game is good for me, I will like to invest in a wheel and build a racing set up for the upcoming versions.. From what I saw on you tube the G25 wheel can be used on the 360 just need some sort of converter but that cost 90 bucks in itself so I couldn't afford it right now along with the G25 wheel and stand...

I am doing an interview, but it's with USA Today, about the NTG11. I already asked about the career length, and as soon as I get a response, I will ask if there is any info about the wheel.

The assist settings can be customized to make the novice racer and the seasoned veteran happy. You literally can make the game so easy that a 5 year old could race it or make it so hard that you will struggle to even stay with the rest of the 42 cars. I have found a happy medium and have had some success especially at tracks like vegas and california.

This thread has made me more comfortable spending my hard earned money on a PS3, a G27 wheel, and NTG2011. Xbox needs to step its game up when it comes to racing games. The lack of wheel support on 360 is a joke and the stringent online policies with car customization is ridiculous considering Forza, Midnight Club LA and Im sure other games allowed custom paint schemes online.

Glad Im getting a PS3 as even if Im disappointed(which I highly doubt) with NTG2011, there is always GT5, F1 2010 and other racing games that I can play with my G27!

All the impressions from Blue, Seasprite, and Senor Nascar are great!(sorry if I missed anyone) It seems the race experience is very customizable and most importantly alot of fun! If any of you guys could add a little more insight on the paint booth, like the decal editor, amount of schemes allowed, etc. and if anyone found out if you can do multiple seasons in career mode with continuous stats from year to year... it'd be much appreciated!

Check this video out, and go to 2:50, he ran into Labonte high, then once labonte caught back up, he started to bump the guy back. So it is true that if you bump AI drivers they will bump you back.

Guys, Just wanted to cofirm 100% that career mode is only 1 season long, but you can play it as many times as you want though.

So stats don't roll from year to year?

From what I understand, the answer is no. I will double check about the stats though...but it never rolls into 2012, 2013 etc....etc...etc.

BIG EDIT:

I got the answer on Stats continuing after season 1. There are quite a few stats keep running though, like wins, fastest laps etc.

It doesn't matter that much. No doubt I'm getting the game anyway. Thanks for all your info.

hey guys, if this has already been asked, please send me to the correct post for the answer.

online, can we use custom cars or are we stuck with just picking a driver that is in the game already?

thanks

I think it's hard to compare it to a PC game because it still is a console game. NR2003 is definitely more sim. What NTG has is better graphics, options to make the game easier or harder depending on your skill level, and an overall fun experience.

Hope that helps.

I would love to be able to create some of the real field fillers that run in Nascar and replace the Nationwide cars with those, so I don't have two cars with the same number during my season. Anyone know if this is possible?
Unfortunately this does not look possible.

I had read and heard that there would be an adapative AI difficulty but I cannot find it anywhere in the game. Maybe it gets added on with the patch. Let's hope so.

I did some research into that converter and I would highly advise against getting that thing. It turns out there is no force feedback with it. If you are looking to get a wheel for 360 I would wait till after the game comes out to see what wheels are working properly.

I personally have a Porsche Fanatec GT2 wheel which although it's operational, the force feedback comes and goes while I am playing this game. I hope it something that gets addressed by Eutechnyx.

The standard Microsoft wheel might work better on day one. I would definitely check the forums to see what people are saying before you decide to buy one.
