gave thousands of eager fans the first quality HD college football experience during this generation of consoles. But now with January already upon us, and NCAA 12 deep into development, it is only a matter of time until the NCAA Football 12 details start emerging. January is also the month that I begin my coverage of the newest NCAA game.

This first article will focus on some of the things NCAA 11 did extremely well, as well as the areas that still need improvement in order to push the game to the next level.

-Tuning Spread/Option offenses to animate better (should've been done for 2011)

etc...etc...

I didn't foolishly make that statement out of thin air.
Even on the EA forum pertaining to NCAA 11, an EA Dev slipped-the-tongue and stated that the game engine limits what they can do and is pretty much maxed out.

So, if that statement pertained to NCAA 11, what more can we really hope for in NCAA 12, for it to be better if the same limiting game engine is what they're building around?

Simply put, the Motor Head is cracked on the current engine and no matter what is done to prolong it's life, eventually the engine will have to be replaced to move forward. Otherwise, other areas that help make things run properly will start to break and fall apart also (check NCAA complaints on forum threads as proof).

We know we're not getting a new engine this year, so again, how much more can NCAA 12 be built better?

I'm not bashing or putting EA down, but we must "Keep-it-Real" with what's about to hit the store shelves in July.
There's nothing wrong with making an informed purchased.

If you let your emotions get stroked to excitement so that you buy off of emotion, you'll be on forums 2-4 weeks after purchasing complaining, again.

First off, I love the enthusiasm, and you know from my position that I cannot go into tons and tons of details..

As far as the engine goes, that's for the most part out of my (being a designer) hand's, but from what I know, we take everything as a factor on what we need to do to provide the BEST experience with our engine..

I want to go in to a million details about why I personally am excited about whats coming this year to NCAA, but at the moment, I cant.. BUT, email me dude, the DAY I can tell you everything, I will.. [email protected]

Everybody is on this forum for a reason, you played the game, and you have feedback. Whether its small stuff or just obxnoxious rants, I like them ALL. I read these forums every single day and will always continue to.

Sounds like aspects of the game have already been decided/concluded, which would void wish list and threads such as this. Maybe I'm wrong, at least I hope so.

Hey, if you work on the game, then you know way more than I could possibly know and I'm willing to take a chance and believe the game will not be NCAA 11 repackaged if you say it will not be.

Quick question.
Is there a reason we are not getting the same type of communication/blogs etc... that Ian is providing the Madden community (eventhough it's released a month later), on the NCAA side?

I just hope when you guys do drop info about the game, it's turns out to be some "WOW" changes to the game!!!

Is there something about NCAA 12 that is going to make gamers say "OMG"?

I think on the new NCAA FOOTBALL 2012 we all the newest equipment an facemask more cleats alot more cleats then we should get to let our backpad to hangout like they do in person that will make the game more realistic we should tons of different hairstyle like dreads make them long medium or short plus i think we should have skull caps an when its a upset an you have 0:11 on the clock an you comeback on the #1 team on the game an beat them by that touchdown i think the fans students an everyone else should get to come on the field even the ESPN producer should run out there like they do on TV an when you have pregame on road to glory show your team exercise an running plays an put 100 more teams on there when you have road to glory i think we need to have all-american game then when you get in college we should summer pratice plus game then when your season is over on off-season we need to spring game. Now when we want our player to be good on road to glory we need to drill games like passing 40-yard dash an all other stuff we should get make to make our pants above our knees then we should get to choose different Qb style stance like they do on madden an everything an our running is ugly i think we should change it too different style. Now when we do pratice so our created person can be become better i think we should just pratice in shorts instead of our gameday pants cause that is tacky. But please EA Sports to make those changes we need the real play book style. An i think we should do like madden fight for the ball an when we have time outs they take off their helmets.an look at all the highlights from people that made those crazy catches, tackles, big hits, an break tackles from last year an put them on the new ncaa football 2012. An online playing against somebody put the people have good connection against each other. About the newest helmet im talkin about the new revo revolution speed an the ION 4D an ION Titanium plus all of their facemask on there to we need that would be nice an sweet. But the mouthpiece like the vampire an alot other mouthpiece an another big people tell me what i need to say is we need tatto now these you see alot of college guys with tatto now why can't EA Sports they put them on there but what all i said if you put it on there EA Sports alot more money what they been making.

I'll keep this short and to the point, because I could probably write for hours on this.

1. Fix kickers. No excuses. Every kicker should at least be 90% on XPs in default weather. That's at the very minimum. Every kicker should also have a minimum FG range of 35 yards in default weather. Not saying 100% accuracy, just enough leg to get it there.

2. Fix awareness. It means nothing for the CPU when every defender knows where the ball is on the option every single time. The only time it ever works is when you get perfect blocking or you catch the CPU in the wrong coverage.

3. Fix the psychic CPU defense. Ties in a lot to #2 but it just gets annoying when you've been running an offense and gameplan a certain way for a play or two and the CPU just knows it's coming because they know your play call.

4. Fix the defensive line play. Instant penetration by the CPU defense on 50% of snaps should not be happening, especially when ratings come into play and the human has better rated players. Don't mind penetration, but when play action becomes sack action like it was on football games 10 years ago, it's a definite problem. I'd say at least 40% of play action plays I'm sacked before the passing icons come up and another 35% I get hit before I can cleanly release the ball. That's discounting the fact that the DBs or LBs may have bitten on the play fake. Even then, I'd say a majority of the time I hit a check down on those plays.

5. Fix CPU scrambling logic. I've seen them scramble a few times, but mostly I can rush 4, play decent coverage downfield, and bide my time until my defensive line gets a coverage sack. No excuses for this either. I have a suspicion that this is going to be done to death in NCAA 12 with anyone with above 60 speed going for 200 yards on human defense before it gets toned down. This may be the one area that gets the typical EA overboard treatment.

6. Fix recruiting. Sick of seeing Alabama pulling in 3 different 5 star QBs when they have a 95+ overall starter. Sick of seeing guys designated as athlete when they only have one real position they will play. An athlete should be a guy good enough to play multiple positions, not just a DB/WR/OL designated as athlete. If the guy would make a stud WR, he should also make a decent CB in a year or two. Same with taking a WR that's 6'5 240 with crappy speed and turning him into a TE in a year or two. At this stage that's nearly impossible because he will never block good enough to do anything at TE, despite having TE size and speed.

7. Give us the cosmetic things that everyone wants. Bowl patches, dreadlocks, pride stickers for teambuilder, etc. Give us accurate pride stickers too. My alma mater uses them and they are never in game.

8. More realistic dynasty feel. Teams should be in danger of falling off. It would take a minor miracle for a team like Alabama in this game to fall off the map. In real life it may take a while, but in game they would have to have a ton of 6-6 or worse seasons to bleed the prestige points down enough to where they wouldn't get every elite recruit in the southeast. There should be more of a fluid flow of things like I've noticed a little in years past instead of the good teams staying good, a few decent teams slipping and a few crappy teams maybe doing better, while everyone else largely staying the same unless they win the lottery with amazing in-state recruits.

9. Make size matter. No more 5'9 180 lb "power" backs that still get tackled like they were a wet piece of paper. No more 70 agility or acceleration on any skill player unless you are going to rate the default rosters that bad. Play should not nosedive once the real players are gone simply because a chimp with a dartboard rated players. It's ok to give us a 5 star player who can do everything and will be a stud given playing time. It's also ok to give us those 3 star guys that may be good at some things but have glaring flaws in their skill set. For example, a decent WR with great speed ratings, but maybe not so good a route runner so he is relegated to being a slot guy until he develops. Instead in 11 that 3 star guy has less of everything than the 5 star guy.

10. Get rid of balanced. Rename it all around. Balanced in this game is a death sentence. You might as well call them vanilla. These guys are well rounded and yet not good at anything. If you want a QB to babysit games, get a guy who is balanced. He will have just enough speed to avoid a sack, just enough arm to throw deep out routes, just enough accuracy to fit it into a zone, but will never be a superstar. Same goes for just about every position. Give us guys with more of a skillset instead of player A has more ratings points than player B even though both are designated as balanced. I'd much rather see that whole system scrapped or updated entirely than see Pocket Passer, Scrambler, and Balanced as my QB choices. I either get a guy who passes better, a guy with speed, or a guy who is too incompetent to do either well. For some positions it hardly designates anything. A LB with decent awareness and speed is also likely to do everything well, not just cover.

Ok this went on way too long. I'm done now I promise.

Spectator Mode in Online Dynasty FTW! If i dont make it to my conference championship but my 2 friends do, I want to be able to watch it!

PLEASE Have the DBs stop running the recievers routes before they do!

# 129 bigrice25 @ 01/29/11 10:47 PM
most of the heavy hitters have been mentioned multiple times, but here are a few things i would like looked at.

As said earlier, being able to see your dynasy history would be nice. a detailed history would be great. but i would be satisfied with a top 10 at certain stats i.e. passing yrds, rushing yrds, ints ect.

Fix man align!! it doesnt work at all in 3-3-5 or 4-2-5. also we should have the option of "man lock off" so we can disguise man coverage. that was in last gen madden.

We should be able to assign a corner to a receiver.

Give us more options on special teams and fix the special teams blocking.

I really loved 2011, online dynasty is a blast, 2011 was a few flaws away from being a great game.. cpu recruiting logic, db coverage and the ineffectiveness of the cpu option really hurt the game.

# 130 209vaughn @ 01/29/11 11:16 PM
Just payed another online game... Very typical...

Guy comes out trying to play balanced. Gets behind b.c he cannot execute. I march the ball down field, scoring on next two possessions. Guy immediately changes to 4-5 WR and begins to hit the seams deep and the under routes. I only rush two guys, everyone else playing zone.

Guy plays this way rest of game. I fumble and turn ball over. He scores again. Now I march ball done field, taking my time to not give him too much time to score winning drive. I score, I'm up.

He comes out 4-5 WR with. I do good job on making him earn it. But I cant stop 4-5 WRs four downs in a row.

Finally he gets within 30 yard line... 20 seconds left. I stop him three downs in a row... Incomplete. (by the way every completion is to the slot WR up the seam or underneath route)

But bc the DBs are too dumb and soft and its impossible to stop 4-5 WR with any regularity... He scores on last play of game.

I am defeated by a lesser player who was using the very inaccurate Oregon backup QB btw. This is a very typical online match IMO.

Game Play:
  • Scrabbling QB's actually running
  • Kickers not attempting 60 yard field goals (in real college football most dont even try 50 yarders)
  • What about having strip sacks?
  • Special teams! (Bad snaps, Blocked kicks & punts, Make dangerous KR's actually matter)
  • Make experience actually matter. Most Freshman cant just enter a game and dominate. there is a learning process that happens
  • Make Rivalry games actually feel different
  • Give Defense a chance. I actually like low scoring games every now and then
Presentation:
  • CBS, ABC, ESPN broadcasts. NCAA Basketball 10 did this really well
  • More Stat overlays
  • Halftime show
  • End of week show
  • Heisman presentation
  • SI Covers( Had this is old gen, loved it)
Dynasty:
  • Coaching Carasol
  • Medical Redshirts
  • Recruiting (No more teams with 7 qb's or 50 overall kickers, High School All american game)
Little things:
  • Dreads, mouth pieces, and other equipment
  • Jersey and field degration
Haha ik that was a lot, but i am still probaly missing some things. One thing that i really want in the game is a more in depth and realistic injury system. Instead of only having 10 week injuries, we need some more tiny, nagging injuries, I am talking about the 1-3 week injuries. And players should not magically be 100% when the time period is over. There needs to be questionable, probable, and doubtful injuries to. We can decide if we want to play them, but we do so at a risk. Such as a ratings decrease and a higher chance of getting more seriously hurt. Players need to show they are injured to. Maybe wear braces and limp around, not to the crazy extent like NBA 2k11, but it needs to be noticeable.

haha sorry for my rant

# 133 ATLDirty @ 01/30/11 11:15 AM
I'd say the biggest thing is recruiting. Fix it. Make better/more dynamic/scheme specific prospects, and make the experience for enjoyable as a whole. It's annoying only being able to play a dynasty for 2 or 3 years because of major recruiting problems, A+ SPD, D- ACC players, 212 pound DEs, Alabama having six 5 star QBs, 42 overall kickers, etc.

# 134 airjordan309 @ 01/31/11 05:14 PM
they need to put in college gameday and put corso back in the game with his gameday picks. Also, seeing espn's x-axis replay system would be great. If you make big play the break it down or the same with a big turnover.

where are the chain gangs and side judges?? I remeber when you could run over the guys marking the first down.

1. tightroping the sideline.
2. diving for the pylons and knocking them over
3. better gang tackling
4. an actual heisman presentation
5. better bowl game presentation
6. show recruits at game
7. recruiting presentation on signing day (like the espn signing day)

MOST IMPORTANT THEY NEED TO LET NCAA FOOTBALL BE ITS OWN GAME AND NOT JUST GET MADDENS SLOPPY SECONDS!!!!

# 135 airjordan309 @ 01/31/11 05:17 PM
Also they need to show the high school recruits stats during the season

# 137 illwill10 @ 02/01/11 02:14 AM
Passing- Needs to be overhauled. Cant aim passes. Always get picked off or get swated down easily when receivers are wiiiide open. Super Mario Jumping by defenders. High passing archs and touch passing. Maddens QB rating needs to be added(randomize). CPU QBs need to scramble more. I want to see WRs running wrong routes if they have low awareness. I want to see more drop animations. WRs need to be more physical. Add at least 3+ QB throwing animations(generic). Play-action blocking needs to be fixed.
Defense- Needs to be overhauled. Coverage, Tackling, DLine interactions. More Dline animations(Bull Rushes, more spins, OLinemen getting thrown to ground). CBs need to stopping running WR Routes. Safeties get beat continuely. Interceptions needed to be scrapped and redone. CBs mirrors WR when the ball is near. Zone coverage is broken, CPU will complete 9/10 passes in zone when not pressured. Drag routes are impossible to stop. Tackling needs to scrapped and redone. It seems it CPU OLine are very aware of what the User is doing and who is blitzing. If I call run plays and dont change them I might only get one first down(unless 95+ speed/acc). If I call a screen play there is a high % that the CPU will call Man coverage. CPU reaction is way too fast.
Matchups- The game of football is about matchups. I want to see elite CBs shut down bad WRs the entire game, vice versa. I want to see elite DLineman live all day in the backfield against poor OL. I want to see Weight matter. I want to see Bigger DL gain penetration and eat up blocks. I want to see DBs with lower Coverage ratings or slow and weak players getting exploited.
Presentation- Commentary needs to be scrapped and redone. More Stat overlays, more ESPN stuff. Little things... Stat tracking.
Create-A-...- Teambuilder needs to be fixed. Create a player needs to be improved. I hate wanting to create powerbacks and have to watch my weight because Ill end up a Lineman face. There needs to be more generic faces. There needs to be a Create-A-Playbook. I want to create my own way to win a game. Dreads and hairstyle. Probably a long shot, but a create-a-play/formation. This would go with create-a-playbook. I want to create my own formations.

# 138 cosmo7149 @ 02/07/11 10:45 PM
I want to build my own playbook from any play in the game, plus edit formations and design my own plays!

# 139 bifflefan30 @ 02/08/11 03:37 AM
Got to have bowl patches on the jerseys. Its a must. Try to get the rest of the mascots in like Joe Vandal.

# 140 rollinphat @ 02/09/11 03:26 PM
neutral site games are a must in dynasty mode now. it's been long enough.

we need to be able to recreate the chick-fil-a classic season opener in the Georgia Dome or like the 2012 season opener in Jerry World between Alabama and Michigan.
