What I notice about the gameplay after the patch

Good:
More space. There's more room to pass now and therefore more attack chances

Less annoying tackles: I feel myself holding L2 less and the cpu is less aggressive in the midfield.

Teammate attack without ball: Finally they move towards the goal whenever I have the ball breaking away instead of standing there like a idiot.

Bad:
Standing CPU: I had a couple incident where the CPU stood and let me blow by them for a 1 on 1 with the keeper. Another time they let me get to a deflection after a save while they went to guard someone out of the box even with the ball going to them.

Tripping over downed players:
Players still don't know how to avoid a down player. They still manage to trip over at the slightest touch. That screw me twice when my defender who got the ball trip over my goalie after he made a save. I lose possession and the other team taps the ball in.

Nerfed Speed:
Is it just me or is everything slower? Running, passing, shooting. I don't really mind but I know others might.

A few things, I didn't get to play yet and test out the new patch myself but I was wondering if the patch will effect the gameplay in FUT as well as if EA provided a more in depth list of what was tweaked/fixed/touched whatever you would like to call it.

Thanks in advance for any answers.

EDIT: Just went into my team management and all the players names are f***ed up. They have the correct initials, ratings and appearances but Francesc Fabregas is now F. Fahid, Andrey Arshavin is now A. Artell and so on. WTF?

Ok, this better be a mistake or something that is fixed quickly.

I had that same name issue pre-patch and had to go d/l the current rosters again. Not sure the deal with that.

Does anyone know if we have to restart our CM to get the updated stuff to work?

I believe EA did say that the CM changes would not work with seasons in progress, only new ones. I can't find the quote but I'll look around.

And by seasons do you actually mean seasons or that you need to completely restart the CM?

Is it possible to download the patch WITHOUT downloading anything for Ultimate Team?

My X360 is not regularly hooked up to the internet, so, when I move the X360 later tonight, I expect that it will notice two "new" things (the Ultimate Team thing from last week + the patch the came out today).

I do not play Ultimate Team and I have read elsewhere that UT causes a problem with player names - a problem whose solution is to download a new squad file - but I do not want a new squad file because I have already invested A LOT of time with stadium renaming.

So, really, I only want the "patch". Can I do this?

(Sorry - should this be in a different thread? My apologies ...)

Yes. Ultimate Team is a seperate download in the Xbox Marketplace.

I could be wrong, but I believe stadium names are not tied to the squad file this year. Not 100% certain, but I believe we talked about this closer to release and someone tested it & confirmed.

With the players being more spaced out, I think it will be easier to go through the middle of the field with passing. I just scored one with Saha by passing up the middle.

This is good to hear. I'm sick of having to either take it up the wing for a cross or lob it forward and pray against better teams. Having another way to score will really add to the enjoyment.

Has anyone simmed ahead to see if young player progression has been fixed yet?

Well I am through 4 weeks in a new CM as simply the manager and through those first 4 weeks and 2 friendlies I haven't noticed much. The CPU seems to be fractionally more reserved in their approach to defending but they will still run straight at your player and just dive in for successful tackles. A few times I saw them play a negative ball but nothing mind blowing like them going all the way back and trying to switch fields or start over. Most noticeably and something that I still absolutely hate and feel like I won't be playing the mode because of is the transfers. First thing I did was set up my transfer list of people I wanted loaned and sold. Through 4 weeks I am still to see an offer for Arshavin, Rosicky and Eboue. I have intentions of spending some money on different players that I want in my squad and I can't get rid of high profile players still. I see headlines of Barca spending $22M on Ivanovic from CPU controlled Chelsea but when it comes to someone spending $21M on my players they won't do it.

The impressions of more space sound really promising. What about the CPU's attack? Is it still one-way football or is there a bit more variety here? I'd like to give FIFA a second chance this year.

I've only played one match, but the CPU did change left to right a few times in it. They used the whole field more than before instead of just every pass going forward. Most of the movement was left to right though and I don't remember seeing any back passes.

I'm going to give it a try when I get home, but I can't help but feel skeptical, since each year EA will tell us the gameplay was not touched yet people swear that they can tell a difference. Not saying anyone is making false claims, as I hope you're all correct.

Goal kicks have also been tuned. It seems they have more height on them.

Yeah, I'm excited to try it out but keeping my expectations low. I think it's important to remember that the dev on the EA boards posted that he wasn't aware of any changes made to specific things like tackling and IA issues, but he's also seemed like he didn't know much of anything. You'd think that if they did tune the game as much as some seem to be experiencing that they'd have someone over here trumpeting every fix they made.

Yeah, I'm just worried it'll be a classic placebo style patch. But, we shall see.

I played one game when I went home for lunch. Played a game of my manager career mode with the chicago fire, where I am somewhere between 20-24 games into the first season. Here is what I noticed...and keep in mind this is one game vs all the other games i have played, it might be just a coincedence and not necessarily the update fixing anything. I play on world class, 10 min, all default settings.

- you still get pressured by the cpu, but it doesnt seem nearly as hard. it seems like you have a little more time to decide what to do before they come at you.

- goal kicks, 50/50 balls...it seemed when i sent a GK long, the cpu would win the header 80% of the time. When i did win the 50/50 balls, it seemed like a weak tap that went nowhere. now i feel like i actually had a chance to win them, especially when jostling into better position. and the headers from these had more force.

- through passes - yes maybe my fault because i play with default settings...but it would seem that when there would be a good run by a teammate, and i would send a through ball, it would go straight at a defender. it seemed like they actually tried to avoid hitting the defender so it would actually get through. of course this did take the runner have to change his run route, but even so it was nice to not see them go straight into a defender.

- cpu clogging the box...it seemed impossible to get a good shot through the middle w/o a through ball or a lucky deflection in the past. or any shot from 5-10 yd out of the box rarely had a chance to get through. now it seems like you can get those shots off.

- cpu offense...they passed back some, and they kicked a LOT of long balls. It was nice to see them 20 yd or so from the midline, and send the ball long to the corner. saw them switch the side of the field too.

- my guys had a chance when overmatched. I signed a 91 speed fa RM...yet it seemed when i sent him a chipped through ball to the corner, he would always get beat to it by slower defenders. not so anymore. and in the past it seemed when dribbling and jostling with a cpu defender, he would always get through me to get the ball, but i couldnt do the same or would get called for a foul. I feel like my guys can hold the defender off a little better now.

- cpu seemed to get called for quite a few more fouls...with 10 min halves i think i usually saw around 5 a game for the cpu, with an occasional card. this game i saw 10, with 2 yellows.
- for the 2nd time in the season i got an email about a guy improving. the first time pre patch they dropped the guy by 1 point. i got on immediately after this first post patch game, and the guy actually did go up a point.

how much of this was just something i thought i saw different, and how much was caused by the update, got me. but it did seem to play a bit better.
