REDWOOD CITY, Calif., - October 19, 2010 – Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS), announced that EA SPORTS™ MMA is available in stores throughout North America starting today and will launch worldwide beginning October 22 and in Japan on November 11. EA SPORTS MMA, offering the most authentic, intense and broadest mixed martial arts experience to date, allows players to travel the world and learn a multitude of fighting techniques and skills. The game features a vast array of world-class fighters, and players can extend their gaming experience online through a first-of-its-kind feature - EA SPORTS Live Broadcast.

Fighters can further showcase their MMA skills to the world through EA SPORTS Live Broadcast in which players can create their own fighter and then produce a hype video to get noticed by an actual EA SPORTS promoter. Once selected by the EA SPORTS promoter, players will be able to have their fight broadcast online through EA SPORTS Live Broadcast, while a live commentator calls every move made during the fight. Moreover, each EA SPORTS Live Broadcast fight can be viewed on game consoles or online via the web.

“EA SPORTS MMA is the most immersive and authentic mixed martial arts experience available, bringing together great fighters, opportunities to train and fight internationally and features that allow players to prove their skills online to a wide audience,” said EA SPORTS MMA Executive Producer Dale Jackson. “EA SPORTS is excited to bring this highly anticipated title to mixed martial arts fans and help grow the popularity of the sport worldwide.”

EA SPORTS MMA provides the definitive mixed martial arts experience, featuring multiple disciplines, rule sets, locations and fighters from all over the world. Players can fight in a ring, hexagonal or circular cage, and the MMA environment comes to life with ring girls, corner men and referees. Ring announcer Jimmy Lennon Jr. provides fighter introductions while Big John McCarthy officiates fights and MMA legend Frank Shamrock and commentator Mauro Ranallo call the action.

Through career mode, fighters will be able to train in locations around the world with legends of the sport such as Randy Couture, Pat Miletich, Rickson Gracie and Bas Rutten, visiting gyms in Japan, Brazil, Thailand and the U.S. While training internationally, players will teach their fighter new skills as they rise up the ranks to make it to one of the biggest stages in MMA – STRIKEFORCE.

Other key features within EA SPORTS MMA include:
  • Fighter Share – Players can put themselves into the world of MMA training and fighting and begin the quest to become a champion. They can upload photos of themselves and use Photo Game Face to create their own, personalized roster of fighters. Display and share these create-a-fighters via Fighter Share by uploading and browsing other created fighters. In addition, through Fighter Share players can download and try out any fighters created by the passionate EA SPORTS MMA community.
  • Customize Your Own Fight Card – Become a promoter and set up a night of fights with your friends. With the ability to host four fights per card with up to 10 people connected*, players can challenge each other to fights, and talk trash while friends provide commentary to the fight.
  • Total Strike Control – Through an intuitive control system for striking, elbow, knees and kicks, players can go on the offensive with Total Strike Control, providing the utmost flexibility for their fighters. EA SPORTS MMA also provides the flexibility for those who prefer fighting using face buttons with the Classic Control scheme.
Sherdog MMA Fighter Exchange Program brought to you by EA SPORTS MMA

Announced on October 11, EA SPORTS will be sponsoring the Sherdog MMA Fighter Exchange program, which mirrors EA SPORTS MMA’s career mode where young fighters travel the globe to learn various martial arts disciplines.

The program gives four up-and-coming fighters the opportunity to learn new fighting techniques and disciplines while training with STRIKEFORCE MMA superstars that appear in EA SPORTS MMA. Two North American fighters will train in Japan and Brazil under the tutelage of Luke Rockhold and Jason “Mayhem” Miller, while two international fighters, will be mentored by Gegard Mousasi and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza in the U.S.

Sherdog.com will provide a behind-the-scenes look throughout the fight camps with blog and video coverage of the fighters. After weeks of training, the four fighters will make their STRIKEFORCE debut, as an undercard, during the December 4 fight featuring Dan Henderson vs. Renato “Babalu” Sobral, which will be streamed online by Sherdog.com.

EA SPORTS MMA will be available on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system, the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, the iPhone® and iPod® touch.

I love this game. Had a great 3 round war between Cung Le and Shields. Shields took me down and was controlling me most of the 3rd round, but I forced a stand up with 10 seconds left in the fight. As soon as we got up I threw a left head kick and KO'd him with 7 seconds left. So awesome.

That was the third time I dropped him in the fight also. Rocked him in round 1 with a spinning head kick and round 2 with a spinning back fist. Le is really fun to play with.

It's a great feature.
I need to try this out, let me know next time you do it.

Can anyone really assist me with the choke holds. You move the right stick of the cursor, but then what? I really don't get it and did the tutorial which didn't help much either.

Thanks!

Yea, I am having a lot of problems with chokeholds too lol. If someone would give some easy to understand instructions it would be great lol.

ok you are either blue or red corner (see gloves) circle the stick to find your color and hold it in that position an till it moves, find it again and hold..the circle should be getting bigger as you are about to break free.

What I do is go from 9 o'clock to 3 o'clock but maybe there's a better way. I just work it until I get to my color. The thing is, if you are fighting a sub specialist it is super hard to defend.

Ahh, I kept moving it, that explains a lot more of it.

Thanks!

Just finished a battle in my career that was awesome.

I just couldn't do anything with my opponent, as far as stand-up. I just couldn't find my range or string together combo's on this guy. Suddenly I remembered a UFC fight I saw a year or so back where the guy was just kicking the crap out of the other guys legs to negate his mobility.

I'm fighting in the liga de combate, or whatever it's called, it's 1 20min round, with head kicks. That being said I came up with a strategy to chop this guys legs down and wear him down stamina wise. I started to go in, rotate around and kick his legs and get out or range, he would wreck me with combo's if I stayed in to long.

After a couple of minutes of my leg-kicks, he started reeling with every kick. Which slowed him down and allowed me to begin peppering him with jabs and hooks. After awhile I felt it was safe to take him to the mat and begin my ground game and try to submit him. All the while being very patient and careful not to gas myself.

Sure enough I won! The awesome thing about the victory is that I was able to devise a coherent strategy and execute it expertly on the fly.

The controls in this game are excellent, I never would have been able to do this in either UFC 2009 or 2010, both of which I owned and played.

I hope more people get this game, so that the online community grows.

Yeah that is what I am saying ! They just kept saying find the cursor, but never said leave it on there, I was just spinning like an idiot in the direction of the cursor LOL.

Choke Battle:
Left stick - Rotate to find the vibration then try to chase it once you got it (it always moves but never "jumps"). Let go or stay still to regain stamina (low stamina = smaller vibration range).

BOTH corners are fighting for the same sweep spot (red = red corner found it, blue = blue corner found it, purple = both corners found it and it's down to grapple defense Vs. Choke submission skill).

The most important thing here is the more stamina you have the bigger your sweet spot "tolerance", so (as with everything) manage your stamina. The faster you move the stick, the more stamina you drain (it's like frantically struggling to get out rather than being methodical in your movements).

The longer the struggle lasts the larger that sweet spot becomes for both fighters (this stops battles from lasting forever).

When defending, your grapple defense stat and stamina determines the size of your sweet spot, when attacking your choke submission skill and stamina determines the size of your sweet spot. The size of that spot makes a HUGE difference in how easy it is to pull out the choke or escape.

Ahh, that makes even more sense. Thanks. The tutorial really didnt explain much for submissions.

Makes a lot of sense now.....I was always going too fast....

Must unlearn the shine, must unlearn the shine, must unlearn the shine, must unlearn the shine

Yeah this game is great! Playing career and I am currently 7-4. I just lost to a guy who put a choke on me when I went to take him down... I was winning the fight too...

I have like 2 TKOs and 5 submission wins. I have lost 2 decisions and twice been submitted.

I highly reccomend this game!

Dana white needs to swallow his pride & give the lic to EA.. Of course we are stuck with thq for another 6 or so yrs.. That will show EA.. EA gets MMA.. THQ doesn't.. I also believe in Karma. He was so happy when Fedor lost.. Now his meal ticket got crushed last night.

The Demo is unbelievable. When I lost, I felt it was my own fault.. I always felt cheated with the UFC 10.. Stand up takes little skill with 90% of the fights ending in KO or TKO..

I actually choked out Jake Shields with Miller in under 2 minutes of the first round.. This would have never happened in UFC 10.. & Just like in real life. Jake Shields avoids stand up to a fault.. He always waited for me to strike to give him a chance to take me down.. I really felt like I fought him.

The parry system while on your back is a thing a beauty.. Clinch transitions is like a ballot.. Parrying against the cage is also fun & almost like a mini game.. Defense actually means something in this game.. & I hear the retail version is even better. The controls are 'basic', yet hard to master IMO... Very noob friendly to those new to MMA..

EA has built a great foundation.. Imagine ANY fight going 20 minutes with UFC 10 fight engine. I'd rather have a bare bones MMA game that gets it right with a heavy emphasis on multi player.. Then a game that has great presentation with more options, but with a broken engine..

Kudo's to EA. 2K11/MMA sports game of the yr.

Thanks for posting that. I wasn't sure of what to do in the demo when that circle showed up on the screen.

Nice artwork in your avatar, btw.
