REDWOOD CITY, Calif., - October 19, 2010 – Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS), announced that EA SPORTS™ MMA is available in stores throughout North America starting today and will launch worldwide beginning October 22 and in Japan on November 11. EA SPORTS MMA, offering the most authentic, intense and broadest mixed martial arts experience to date, allows players to travel the world and learn a multitude of fighting techniques and skills. The game features a vast array of world-class fighters, and players can extend their gaming experience online through a first-of-its-kind feature - EA SPORTS Live Broadcast.

Fighters can further showcase their MMA skills to the world through EA SPORTS Live Broadcast in which players can create their own fighter and then produce a hype video to get noticed by an actual EA SPORTS promoter. Once selected by the EA SPORTS promoter, players will be able to have their fight broadcast online through EA SPORTS Live Broadcast, while a live commentator calls every move made during the fight. Moreover, each EA SPORTS Live Broadcast fight can be viewed on game consoles or online via the web.

“EA SPORTS MMA is the most immersive and authentic mixed martial arts experience available, bringing together great fighters, opportunities to train and fight internationally and features that allow players to prove their skills online to a wide audience,” said EA SPORTS MMA Executive Producer Dale Jackson. “EA SPORTS is excited to bring this highly anticipated title to mixed martial arts fans and help grow the popularity of the sport worldwide.”

EA SPORTS MMA provides the definitive mixed martial arts experience, featuring multiple disciplines, rule sets, locations and fighters from all over the world. Players can fight in a ring, hexagonal or circular cage, and the MMA environment comes to life with ring girls, corner men and referees. Ring announcer Jimmy Lennon Jr. provides fighter introductions while Big John McCarthy officiates fights and MMA legend Frank Shamrock and commentator Mauro Ranallo call the action.

Through career mode, fighters will be able to train in locations around the world with legends of the sport such as Randy Couture, Pat Miletich, Rickson Gracie and Bas Rutten, visiting gyms in Japan, Brazil, Thailand and the U.S. While training internationally, players will teach their fighter new skills as they rise up the ranks to make it to one of the biggest stages in MMA – STRIKEFORCE.

Other key features within EA SPORTS MMA include:
  • Fighter Share – Players can put themselves into the world of MMA training and fighting and begin the quest to become a champion. They can upload photos of themselves and use Photo Game Face to create their own, personalized roster of fighters. Display and share these create-a-fighters via Fighter Share by uploading and browsing other created fighters. In addition, through Fighter Share players can download and try out any fighters created by the passionate EA SPORTS MMA community.
  • Customize Your Own Fight Card – Become a promoter and set up a night of fights with your friends. With the ability to host four fights per card with up to 10 people connected*, players can challenge each other to fights, and talk trash while friends provide commentary to the fight.
  • Total Strike Control – Through an intuitive control system for striking, elbow, knees and kicks, players can go on the offensive with Total Strike Control, providing the utmost flexibility for their fighters. EA SPORTS MMA also provides the flexibility for those who prefer fighting using face buttons with the Classic Control scheme.
Sherdog MMA Fighter Exchange Program brought to you by EA SPORTS MMA

Announced on October 11, EA SPORTS will be sponsoring the Sherdog MMA Fighter Exchange program, which mirrors EA SPORTS MMA’s career mode where young fighters travel the globe to learn various martial arts disciplines.

The program gives four up-and-coming fighters the opportunity to learn new fighting techniques and disciplines while training with STRIKEFORCE MMA superstars that appear in EA SPORTS MMA. Two North American fighters will train in Japan and Brazil under the tutelage of Luke Rockhold and Jason “Mayhem” Miller, while two international fighters, will be mentored by Gegard Mousasi and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza in the U.S.

Sherdog.com will provide a behind-the-scenes look throughout the fight camps with blog and video coverage of the fighters. After weeks of training, the four fighters will make their STRIKEFORCE debut, as an undercard, during the December 4 fight featuring Dan Henderson vs. Renato “Babalu” Sobral, which will be streamed online by Sherdog.com.

EA SPORTS MMA will be available on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system, the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, the iPhone® and iPod® touch.

For chokeholds, you rotate in the direction of the cursor.

For limb subs, you just tap the button repeatedly until they tap out or you escape. Don't go guns blazing though, just go fast enough that you don't empty out your stamina.

So it is really best to know your fighter. If they good at subs, you can tap fast, if they not, you really got to pace yourself.

Don't you guys just love when you play against a person who don't know the ends and outs of the fighter they choose ? One thing I noticed is that people pick 2 types of fighters.....

1. Fighters with a 90 or higher stand up
2. Fighters with 95 or higher sub.

What the masses don't realize is that everything is broken down to more then just punches and subs.

Stand up rating consists of:

Punch range
Punch speed
Punch power of each hand
Kick range
kick speed
kick power of each foot
Movement speed

Sub rating consists of:

Arm subs
Leg subs
Neck chokes

So I always laugh at people who pick Fedor, Dan Henderson, Classic Bas.....Why ? Because all those guy have power, BUT, they are slow as hell and have soft guts.

Same thing with people choosing classic ken shamrock....Ken has good leg subs, but his arm and neck subs are WEAK. And his sub defense is POOR.

I made this dude tap with Mousai because he choose Ken Shamrock. I took him down, he reverse me, he THOUGHT he was going to ground and pound me in my full guard, I arm barred him, he quit.......

Another guy choose Fedor.....I had Arloski, he thought it was going to be slugfest.....NOT, I kicked him 5 times to the gut, Fedor dropped and I tko'ed him, dude quit.

Another guy had classic Bas, I was Josh Barnett, he had me down, then he choose to stand up in my guard, thinking he was going TKO me, NOT, Barnett has an inverted kneebar move, I inverted kneebarred him, he didn't even see it coming, I don't even think he knew that move was in the game, made him tap, he quit.

Needless to say learn the ins and outs of the fighter you play as. Most power punchers are slow, have poor stamina and weak gut. Same thing with sub guys, just because they are rated 99, don't mean they are good in all 3 sub types and have good sub defense in all 3 sub types.

Dude, get it. It blows UFC out of the water. EA really hit a home run here.

Didn't they 31. It is flat out fantastic. Excellent balance. Sure anything can use improvements but for a first time effort it is stellar,

Fun game. Lacking a lot (no side control knees, but knees from half-guard?), but hopefully they can improve. Career is much more fun and less tedious.

My main + is that ratings matter. If your chin sucks, you're going down if you try to stand. If you're top level on the ground, you're actually really dangerous from full-guard or on the top.

I said a lot more than that, but neither time did the forum software want to post it.
NO knees in side control = No Buy ??... This is the best fighting game ever made.

Anyone have any idea how this is selling? It's hard to find people online, yet the reviews ate positive.

I wonder if it can be like Demon's Souls and sell good through word of mouth.

i just picked up this game this morning and FREAKING LOVE IT!!!!!!!!

havent played ONLINE YET, and dont think i will for while considering how hard it is said to be
im gonna get some days/weeks of offline practice in first

some overall impression/details:

the game plays WAY faster than UFC and I LOVE THAT
yeah, of course the commentary is weak and very little to it
of course the UFC fight presentation dominates EAMMA (kind of like NBA2K dominates LIVE with presentation)
but graphics and gameplay and gameflow/speed are WHAT I CARE ABOUT
and this game ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!

i recommend at least renting this game if like THQ's UFC game, theres so much more to it than the demo
i rented it last night, and realized i had to buy it IMMEDIATELY
FEDOR IS AMAZING

NICE work, Phobia! That's awesome that Gogo's are in the game. Man, I'm trying like heck to hold off on this game (finances are tight) but you guys just make it so tempting. Hopefully I'll be able to figure out if this game is on sale anywhere on Black Friday and then look to pick it up then. I was going to trade in some games, but I don't have anything that's worth enough to make a real dent in the overall price of this game.

It is so tight. One of my favorite games of the year.

Just won my 10th match. Currently 10-0 with all 10 wins coming by submission. Just beat a green belt who was 49-19 something close to that. He took Jake Shields and did the stupidest thing he could of did. He ran out and took me down, quick reversal later and he submitted to a americana!!!

I honestly did not think I could beat a green belt with the record he had. I thought I was going to have my first lose. So pumped to walk out with the win and still remain undefeated!!

Man, I'm gonna have to rent this now. Damn you OS!

# 153 Phobia @ 10/23/10 02:45 PM
Damn, just lost the belt and my first loss. To a arm bar. I was winning all 3 ronds up until I got tapped. His stamina was beat bad and I had him on the ropes. He had a great ground war and he manage to slap on a arm bar to take the belt.

10-1

No. GO BUY IT! I am extremely impressed with the actual game. The cpu is much more difficult and will not just let you throw hooks from mount to knock them out(still a little easy tho). I havent played online yet, but I can only imagine its as good as phobia has been saying. Lots of balance to the game and I was obsessed with the career mode last night. I even feel how the ratings matter.

BTW **** you and your I told you so Phobia

I'm gonna man up and be strong and not look into this thread again. I have too many games that I need to complete in my rotation and I want this one REALLY BAD!!!!.

If I stay away I won't be tempted any longer by all these great impressions. So long

**Update** I just checked this thread again.

# 158 Scoop_Brady @ 10/23/10 03:29 PM
What's weird is I only had my eyes on this one because I love MMA. I liked seeing some of the Strikeforce, Dream, and Sengoku guys in a game. The problem is nothing I ever saw on the game ever wowed me so I really didn't expect much from this game. After playing the demo I thought there was promise but the AI was terrible. Now, with the full version, I am really enjoying the game. It's not perfect by any stretch but it does a lot right and most importantly, it's fun.

# 159 DaveDQ @ 10/23/10 03:51 PM
I have a few friends that I have gotten together with on weekends for Xbox Live and we did some Fight Card last night. I have never heard this one guy I know be so loud. It was a great time and they had just got the game...so weren't to experienced. But the ability to watch the fights was a treat.

It's a great feature.

# 160 franch1se @ 10/23/10 06:51 PM
the game is lots of fun, however I've had to re-download every single bookmarked fighter I have about 4 times because the game freezes all the time and when it does it deletes all your data
