NBA 2K11 News Post

2K Sports have just posted another NBA 2K11 Developer Insight, this one featuring presentation.

Quote:
"Dynamic Attendance
Have you ever noticed that at a Lakers home game, during tip-off, the seats aren’t quite filled yet? As if half the ticket holders are stuck in 405 during rush hour.

NBA2K Gamer: Did you guys add this to NBA 2K11?
DDP: Yessir

Well, when you tip with Bynum come NBA 2K11, expect to see a couple of empty seats that won’t be filled until half way through the 1st Quarter. And this doesn’t just happen in LA, it happens in pretty much every city. We took attendance numbers and watched a lot of footage from every team in the NBA to make sure the numbers were as accurate as possible. Depending on which city the game is being played in, and who the players on the scheduled road team are, the arena may or may not be at full capacity at the start of the game. Over the course of the game, the arena will fill to its capacity at different rates.."

Dynamic attendance should be in Assoc. mode - it depends on you how many fans will come to see ur team. Wish they add ticket price in assoc. and possibility to expand or upgrade our training facility, etc.

Church!

I don't follow the development of 2K basketball as close as I do Madden. But man, after catching up on the vids, playing the demo, and reading this insight blog, all I can do is .

They really seem to be throwing in the kitchen sink this year, at least to this more casual basketball fan. Their attention to detail is mind blowing!

You might be right, but I don't think they will be totally full for every team. 2K10 had dynamic attendance, to some extent.

In the demo, on the loading screen where it shows Staples Center, it even says "expected attendance" and that number is not constant from game to game.

So, I don't think it will be totally full for all teams.

This is a first day buy for me and I haven't play 2k since 08. They put ALOT of work in and they really paid attention to detail. I mean, what more can you ask for?

Wow, can't wait to get this! Seemed like a hint to scenes featuring the national anthem too, wahoo Just hope that even a small few make it into next years MLB 2K game!

*does the running man in this post*

Oh schnap! These 2K dudes are putting their feet in this. This is looking/sounding like the best sports game ever and I haven't even played the demo.

This game has so just much *stuff* added, I fear it will come with two DVDs instead of one

Now lets talk Association, please

Heat @ Bobcats – At tip-off you notice that most of the crowd has made the effort to get to the game on time. Maybe traffic wasn’t as bad or maybe people came to see a certain Big Three?
I wonder if the dynamic attendance takes into account the star power coming to visit certain arenas...hmmmmm

Possibly. From the Insight:

I'm pretty sure that like the Dallas Cowboys are "America's team" in football, the Lakers are "America's team" in basketball. And I'm pretty sure there is a secret rule in the NBA book that says that "The NBA shall not allow anything that may suggest the Lakers are not "America's team" " (The refs probably know this rule by heart...).

So, to answer your question, I'm not sure about other teams, but when it comes to the Lakers, attendance problems are illegal.

I can understand that but, i know the NBA and when a team falls from grace people dont show up in the stands. Because it wasn't that long when KB24 had nobody but Odom and a bunce a scrubs highlighted with Kwame Brown

Yes, but that doesn't mean that the NBA allows this to happen in a video game. Actually, if you think about it, the NBA has so many regulations and rules about what's right and what's wrong in NBA video games, becuase it helps them to create an atmosphere of "this is a great league, things are great!", even if not everything is great. NBA video games are just another tool used by the NBA for marketing. That's the way I see it.

Just throwing this out there, but can you imagine if nfl 2k was still around and there were these kinds of upgrades to that game? It gives me the chills just thinking about it and also makes me want to cry a little bit lol. Great job 2k, just shows why your the best around.

Long gone are the days when 2K was weak with it's presentation. Thank goodness.

I like what I'm reading and what we've seen so far. Excellent work.

I don't know who else feels the same way, but I actually feel bad for EA this year. I am pretty neutral when it comes to Live or NBA 2k. I even have bought both games some years. But this year, I don't even feel like there is any competition. At this time of the year i am usually debating if I should buy one or the other. Even way before this insight, I was sold on 2k.

It has never been so clear who will have the better game.

You've just returned this forum 3 years back. All the progress we've made through the years with the "vs" threads...now we need to start over...

Just kidding, of course!

^I second that.

Competition is great for us. Just look what's happened this year, after Live 10 made a big push and was a threat to 2k for the first time on this generation of consoles, we're rewarded with 2K11!

Luckily, no matter how poor of a game Elite is, I don't think we need to worry about a 2K let down next year, not with the base they've built. They could do nothing but refine and add animations for 2k12 and I'd probably be satisfied, the next great "leap" will happen on the next generation of consoles.
