Yeah, it is sad that I did not need them.

See, this is the problem. If I allow it to break on me. Why doesn't the AI ever take it out on me? Fact is, I do not see us reaching any new level of sophisticated AI here or in the other game. This is why sports games always must be taken online or we if we are to play AI, they must be management simulations.

Is there a higher difficulty level than 'top player?' Otherwise, I can not see how things will be any different unless I set house rules. I read somewhere about 'superstar.'

So people tweak the AI?

Reo, people tweak the AI in both games. Last year in FIFA there was a custom tactics project that helped differentiate clubs when it came to how they played. Not sure how that will work this year.

I may be looking in the wrong places, but has there been a confirmed North American release date for this (the full game, not the demo)?

My laptop and its integrated Intel GPU can run it, I'd venture to say that not much of a rig is needed. It isn't as pretty as you say, which is to be expected, but it runs, and I can get a decent window size (full screen gets choppy.)

i agree with the poster before me who said that it's too easy to impose your game even on top player.

Game is really good especially with the slowest setting, good pace, but the cpu just dones\t have enough control of the ball to be threatening.

maybe they might have a superstar difficulty, because top player will not cut it in the long run. Been a problem the last 3 iterations ....

I created a European user so I could download the demo on PS3. Waited a few days to post because I wanted to be sure of what I said.

This demo is better than any full version of any game I own except for Uncharted. And, I have "The Show". I feel like we have thrown the word "organic" around way too much over the past few years to describe a game that feels right. However, the word had to be used for PES. This game plays a brilliant rendition of soccer and I can't imagine what the full version will be like.

Moving the feints to the right stick is a brilliant move and feels like it should have been there all the time. The amount of ticky-tack fouls called is fantastic. That's a first.
I may be in the minority but I love seeing a lot of fouls and getting a lot of stoppages in play.

I'm still trying to get used to shooting.

Has anyone successfully used the man mark settings? This has been broken in Previous versions.

I love the frequency of fouls too. Last year we were lucky to get even one per game.

I wasn't specific. Do they make the game more difficult?

Well, I can't 100% speak to PES since I think the majority of the changes were made via the PC version.

For FIFA I don't think it made the game more difficult, it just broke up the monotony of every team playing the same. Clubs that gave me problems in FIFA always had the same make-up, Fast Strikers.

I have to agree with those that say that keep possession is too easy. Although I do like this game very much and believe it has great potential, going by the demo, the difficulty should be increased. Doing this properly is very important. Having a super CPU isn't what I am after, but rather one where they play more closely to their real life counterpart. Barcelona should never have trouble keeping the ball 50% all the time and most often should retain it 65%. This would not only limit my numerous chances, but increase their potency making the overall experience more difficult to win. To be fair, in the demo last year I felt similarly only to find the full version much more challenging especially those away champions league games (even vs. inferior opponents.

Yes, I also understand that FIFA is very poor in their implementation of team building, but I have always held PES to it's own standard since I want a great game rather then one that is just better then FIFA.

No problem. Makes sense . . .

Yeah, speed in every video game kills. Pisses me off. I'm not saying it doesn't kill in real life, but you do need other attributes to go with it. Otherwise, players like Victor Obinna wouldn't be out on loan so often (yes, I know he's young, just it was the first name that came to mind).

Don't know what to say. there are now two brilliant soccer game to buy this year.

PES now has it's whole act together in a way that's reminiscent of the franchises glory days.

Running animation etc look great gam, eplay is as good as its ever been.

Just don't know what to say.

getting fifa 11 and then a month later getting PES 2010. soccer is this years sports gaming highlight

Why is there only 2 camera choices in the demo? I like to play using the pro cam/verticle. I like what I see so far even with the bad camera setting. I'm liking it more than FIFA - which I'll prob pass on this year and stick to PES11.

I agree. I wasn't going to get Fifa because I think PES is better based on the demos but I am getting both. I will mostly use Fifa to play the Online clubs mode I think but no harm in getting both

PES is back this year in a big way and I am happy to see it.

I was kinda lost at first. I'm so used to playing Pro Cam, it had me messed up. Now I'm actually liking the default cam, it makes the pitch look so much bigger. I'll still go back after the game drops, but it is nice to be able to play from the sideways view now. I'm gonna get both, but I'll probably wait until Christmas for Fifa, I want to spend some serious PES and NBA2k time first. Fifa will be Fifa....

I hear ya Brian, it's still pretty good playing horizontal - you got me into playing the Pro Cam a few years back and that's the only way I go now - it adds so much more to the game. I'll probably wait on FIFA till around Christmas also.

So I did the Euro account thing a few days ago and.... I CAN'T STOP PLAYING THIS DEMO. It just feels like you can create things that you see on a real football pitch. I played Fifa for the past two years and it always felt the same. No variety in gameplay/goals, and I always felt like it forced me to play the way the game wanted so I could win. With PES, I can go out and play a real possession game with Barca, or work the ball through the wings with Bayern. Not to take shots at FIFA because it is a solid game, just a little tired of it. (With that said I'll probably be picking it up a little further in the year. It's soooo smooth.)

Another thing is the difference with the players. It really feels like I'm controlling them. I can twist and turn, then distribute with Xavi in the midfield. Iniesta's close control is insane. You actually see Olic working his *** off, harassing defenders in their own half. Ribery, Robben, Messi terrorize and take on defenders on the wing, cut in, etc. That might of went on longer than necessary, but I'm just loving this game.

One thing that needs to be fixed is the defense, all too often a defender just watches a throughball go right past him.

After spending a TON of time with the demo with the time expander and mods on PC, I have extremely mixed feelings. On one hand, the tactical options and the pace of the game are absolutely brilliant, and they indeed resemble football. You can easily play a 40 min game without turning it into a goal fest. But there is one major flaw: the AI is INCREDIBLY inconsistent on all difficulties.

It goes from making a genius play on offense, only to revert into its brain dead stage next time they get possession. Bad passes, forced plays, and a general inability to keep the ball. It seems hell bent on quickly counter attacking even if it means passing the ball into a sea of defenders. And don't get me started on the premature finishing, god. They build up incredibly smart counter attacks only to shoot from outside the box for no apparent reason.

On defense, it can be terribly scripted up to the point that if you are not in a defenders "zone", they will ignore you completely even if you are close enough for them to make a play. The defence near the box seems to be excellent for the most part, but if you are out in the midfield or backfield, everything seems to be scripted by the tactics the AI is using to the point that if a situation where an improvised action is needed - for example, an unforced loose ball - they become confused.

Hopefully it will be a different story with the retail version, but I'm not holding my breathe. I play mostly against the AI, so these are huge problems in my view. At one point I was considering picking this up over FIFA since I don't really need two games, but I can't see myself playing against this CPU. Maybe next year, because I love the direction they are taking.

So I tried downloading the PC demo again because I wanted to try using the 30 teams patch, but Im having trouble just d/ling the actual demo, let alone the patches. Anybody know what I'm doing wrong here? When I get through d/ling the demo and go to run it, a pop up says its unable to run because the "d3dx9_30.dll" is missing. Am I missing a file or is my computer just not able to run this? When I go to settings it does say my computer doesn't meet the minimun system requirements so I may experience some difficulties, but I thought maybe it would still work?
