Just posted this on another site and thought I would share it here:

I was playing a bit more of both demos last night and Fifa was growing on me a bit but then I went back and played PES some more and then something struck me

I was messing around with formations and strategies and the depth of these really struck me. I played 2 games both as Barca vs. Bayern. the first game I went into the simple settings I believe it was and selected offensive (wide) as my option. I don't think I messed with the other settings for how they were going to play like counter for the first 15 minutes etc. but I may have. Using this strategy the game was very wide open and I actually lost 2-0 because Bayren took advantage of the space I was leaving open.

The 2nd game I actually tried defensive wide to see how it would go. It was a much tighter game and Bayern did not press as much and it was more of a midfield battle.

After this experiment my mind started racing There are just so many possibilities with the tactics and and I got me thinking how great it will be during ML for example. Let's say your playing in the CL and it the last group game and you need a draw to advance. Do you go out and play defensive and play for the draw, do you played balanced, do you go for the win etc. etc. etc. You get the idea

To me in Fifa there never is really much need for strategy because the game tends to play the same way.

I have not been a big fan of the last few games but now that they have the game play to go with the depth this game should be amazing when it comes out IMO.

For me PES 2011 had only one way to go which is up. It is an improvement but two glaring things stand out, it is not silky smoothe like years gone by on the PS2-that means no 360 as it was advertised, still feels 8-axis robotic not to mention slow in response, worse if you get stuck in an animation sequence. This is still a last gen game with a next gen coating.

There is really nothing much next gen about this game.

played a few more games on the ps3 demo with -1 speed and I'm actually liking it more. Also noticed that to get a good, non floating strike on goal you have to be in good position and clear of the defender. Loving it.

2. The shots looked and felt better in pes2010. The shots have a lob or float feel to them. I haven't really seen a rocket type shot. Hopefully they fix that for the retail version.

Everything else is so good though. The strategy involved is top notch and the game plays out like a real soccer match.
I had a shot with Messi last night where after switching flanks I let one go just outside the box with the left. A straight rocket that ricocheted off the goalkeeper. He blocked it solely out of good initial positioning and I kinda shot it right at him. I didn't realize how powerful it was until the replay. I got a similar shot off with Schweinsteiger.

When the full release drops the first thing I will do is change the controls to FIFA's. Last night my 1st 2 crosses with Lahm were shots before I realized I was hitting the wrong button.

I'm curious to see how it feels on the 360. I think the 360 controller is much more responsive.

I agree with you. PES is the better overall game and for the first time in years people will have to accept (like it or not) that 2011 belongs to PES and not Fifa.

I agree and I haven't felt that way the last couple of years. PES is truly back IMO.

Agreed 100% You really have to be in a good position now to get off a good shot. It also helps to be on the players stronger foot. I was playing with Bayern and hit a shot with Robben with his right foot from far out and it was awful I couldn't help but laugh. I was like I should have got it on his left foot first

I'd feel a lot more comfortable if I could get sprint & jockey on the same buttons they're on in FIFA. Also the auto-switch is killing me. I tried to change both of these without success, but perhaps I overlooked something. Anyone?
U can switch the sprint button if you press start and go to button settings (Im pretty sure thats it, not playing the game rite now) and select custom controls and set it up how u want. I pretty much set mine up like Fifa's set up and it feels more natural for me since im used to Fifa.

Lol. Yea Im starting to get the hang of the crossing as well. I made a nice header with Muller. Also had a nice cross that got through to Messi but I couldnt finish and I was literally right in front of the goal lol but that was my fault. I still need to get a hang of the shooting as Im rocketing some shots way over the bar. Once I get that down, Ill be set. This game takes some learning and getting used to but its a great game. Thnx for all the tips man.

These are two different games that cannot be compared. Please tell me how is PES 2011 a next gen game? Let's compare it to Madden, NBA 2K, MLB 10. Those are next gen games. You can tell right from the start so how is this game a next gen game? PES is a phenominal game but it's not next gen so how is it a PES year in the next gen arena?

Thanks for the tip, I'll check it out tonight. Since I sat out 2010 and barely played 2009, the menus are somewhat foreign to me.

I was able to change the face buttons, but not the shoulder buttons. Although I also change FIFA to alternate controls (ie, the old WE shooting/lob pass setup). So, yeah... I'm having trouble changing the PES controls to the FIFA controls that I changed to the WE controls.

Like I said above, I saw the ability to re-map the face buttons -- which I don't want/need to do -- but not the shoulder buttons. I'd like to get sprint on R2 and jockey/strafe on L2 if possible. IIRC, we can't put player switch on L1 since that's for strategy settings. But I'll give it another look tonight...

Your welcome. Semi-assisted works the best IMO.

What are you on about? What determines a next gen game? You call Madden, NBA 2K, and MLB 10 next gen, but then don't say why.

Not sure which system you're on, but on PS3 you can definitely re-map the shoulder buttons.

I made all of those changes and I'm starting to get the hang of things. I couldn't get them exactly like FIFA, but i have RT for sprint and LT for slow dribble and jockeying (while ball is in the air) and things got much better. Also changed auto switch to only on offense. Wish there was an option where the switch was just toned down on D but manual works as well.

Thanks ezio!

I don't suppose you know some secret way to skip the 10 minute post game ad do you? (w/o exiting the game of course..)

This is one of the downsides to PES since I can remember. You can change the shoulder buttons (at least in the past you could), but they didn't allow you to change one of them and it made changing the others basically worthless.

I don't mind the sprint on R1 (as opposed to what we might be used to with FIFA), but the super cancel on R1+R2 for some reason irks me...I just can't hit that button combo.

If youre on ps3, just exit and restart. Waiting 30 seconds is a lot better than waiting 7 minutes. If on pc, you can disable it in the settings file.

I'm gonna say this: if you don't like this game over Fifa, you don't like soccer. The more I play this game, the more the realism stands out. I finally got my offense going, and this game is really starting to really just blow me away. I've been able to get long strikes, shots where I just found the tiniest bit of space in the box, and that perfect through ball for the one on one where I got the perfect feint off to get one on one with the keeper for the deft finish. No trick looks out of place, no player has that perfect touch with the ball stuck magically to his feet. When I get a shot everything feels as if it is done by proper planning and execution, not by using a unrealistic amount of tricks or poor CPU AI.

I'm loving the fact that the CPU punishes me on Pro, but there's nothing that screams "cheat." I can always say that I goofed and created the opportunity, either through a poorly timed or placed pass or over-pursuit on D. I just scored 5 goals this morning, and every one of them felt earned. What I loved was that 2 of them came of deflections, one off of my hitting a pass that went in, instead of a shot, one was an own goal off the defenders face and the other because I pulled a perfect stepover with myself facing a defender in the box with help closing in. When I'm on, it's a thing on beauty. When I'm not, the computer reminds me to up my game, quick.

This game is awesome, the game Konami needed to deliver. The PC version is, quite simply, the best looking gme I've ever seen. On my i7, settings all maxed, I have not seen a single frame dropped, the details are incredible. They even have the replay issues of last year sorted out. They are something a gamer could use to create some serious Machinima masterpieces. I simply can't wait for this game to drop. From a major fan of Fifa, I have to say that this year, it's all about PES 2011. I'll grant that Fifa has the better online package but, where it counts most for me (gameplay, AI, graphics) this game is tops. Can't wait to get the full game and fire up ML. Hopefully Dido already has been given a PC copy by Konami and is hard at work on the first SMoKE patch. Man, November can't get here soon enough.
